I went to this mall all the time in the 70s and 80s. I saw lots of midnight movies at the old twin cinemas that were at the north end, and wasted all kinds of money at Huck Finn's arcade. All of it is just a memory now. Thanks for sharing this, Nate.

I liked it also-b/c you didnt have to go so far to get to a store of food court! I remember years ago before it was canton centre it was mellet mall!

The abandoned Macy's at chapel Hill Mall looks just like this also there's a smaller Macy's in stow that looks like this

It was Kauffmans first than Macys bought out Kauffmans. So there is a good chance that this closed before Macys bought them out. That apostrophe you seen is probably from when it was O'neils

yeah just was researching a little more, and the Macy's here, Randall Park Mall, and Rolling Acres, all closed at the same time.

The remains of Mellet mall and Macy's is long overdue for demolition.Once cleared would be ideal for low income independent seniors only housing.With Walmart and Aultman🏥near there would be ideal location for sorely needed housing like that 55+🧓👵👴within Rascal and Walker range.The Mellet Seniors Apts.for independent living.🏢

@@LethaWolfStudios: Maybe? Is easily the oldest Penny's left in NE.Ohio.Since they own the store & the land it sits on holding out for a good offer,but with the surrounding neighborhood around it in decline good luck with that.👌

It’s such a shame what happened to this place. I spent many weekend days there, in the arcade Nickelodeon and at the theater. They just let that place go to shit and it couldn’t recover. So many memories here. I lived in the neighborhood right next to the mall, West Manor

I grew up just over the hill on the east (10th. St. S.W.) Worked as a stocker in a store there. It was Oneil's back then middle 1960's. Used to play baseball in the field before they built the mall. Live in Michigan now but have family in Canton and many memories. Thanks for posting.

In the early 80's, there was a haunted house under the steps. Maybe for a few Halloweens or so.

Great, although sad, video! Don’t forget that it was May Company after O’Neils, then Kaufmann’s, then Macy’s. I worked for them in various stores during the May Company/Kaufmann’s years.

Whenever they kick back into the Phase II of redevelopment, I'm sure the corridors and Macy's is toast. They seem to want junior anchors and anchors, so I'm sure the ownership is looking to continue the power center plan from when they first signed on Walmart.

Great video and you telling of the history behind the site and your sons video there. Very sad they are letting this store run down to nothing and letting the mold take over. Simple do something with the site or tear it down. Still and I'll argue with others like this: Macy's ruined a number of regional department stores who had their own customer service and selling styles. Macy's seems so monotone and didn't fit in with a lot of regions. Why they probably failed at Canton Mall and others malls.

You got any idea if they still letting people in the mall you know to take pictures and videos of the inside because me and my friend use to go to that Mall when we was little I use to stick my feet in the water fountain but do you know if it's still open to the public because me and my friend wants to tour in that place for old times sake you know
