One time I was driving from Reno to Las Vegas and it was about 1am. As I’m driving, I see this bright green/white light appear like it just shot down to the middle of the sky about 2-3 miles away our where the mountains were, and it stayed there for a couple seconds and then it instantly shot across the sky and disappeared. I would imagine the government needs to have a place to develop and test extremely top-secret technology like stealth, drones, spy planes, and what have you, and Groom Lake happens to be the best place to do it. Frankly, it has to be somewhere, and I wouldn't exactly expect them to want to gleefully share their military secrets they're building and testing out there. It's a highly-sensitive military Air Force installation for a reason. The base was founded due to the government needing a place to test the U-2 spy plane and they kept it for the same type of things over the many decades. If anything, I would imagine the government prefers people believe they're testing extraterrestrial craft and housing alien bodies to distract from the very real and sensitive things they're doing at the base and test range.

No, the problem with keeping stuff secret is oftentimes you make your employees sign contracts that they will not compete against you. Sort of contracts and what this does is it stagnates the technology of the country? They can't move forward because everybody that knows something is signed. A $5 to 20-year agreement with a country or not a country but with a company in order not to compete with that company. So it stagnates the country for several years. You don't get the same snowballing effect of one person competing against another. It's almost basic anti-capitalism at its best but that's how it is and that is the best kept secret at area 51
