I cried for 4 hour straight after finishing this anime. I’ve never been so emotionally attached to an anime character before. I cry every time I start thinking of it..

When you realize that if Kaori ended up living we would be happy and move on and forget it but now that she is dead, we will never forget it cause it hurts so much. Kaori- “promise me, you won’t forget!”

I thought the lie meant "we are going to perform once more together" but then she would die but it was the obvious instead, love.

when i watched it for the first time, i genuinely thought it’d be a lighthearted slice of life anime about music. I didn’t really read the description, I just watched it. if only i knew what i was getting myself into. and now, every time i re watch it, every time i finish the final episode, i get an overwhelming urge to go straight back to episode 1, when everything was okay, as if turning back time to when it was okay. except that it’s not okay because i know exactly what happens. even when i know what happens i still cry uncontrollably.

I watched the anime while previously spoiled about the ending. So every time I saw Kaori on screen all happy and energetic I was like: ''Oh no, how could you do this :C ''. Over time she gets more and more pale, and it just really reminded me of how much I hate seing a person wither away. Obviously, the conclusion to her journey was heartbreaking. One specific thing bugs me tho, and that is, there is no one to blame. She was sick, and died. Its like no one asked her whether she wanted to live or not. A cruel destiny gradually delivered in small doses. Most of the time, when characters die, they are either killed, kill themselves, or die of old age. But, I find that a young person dying from an illness is the most unjust outcome of all, especially if it takes its sweet ass time, accompanied by pain and fear for ones life.

"Was I able to live in someone's heart?" yes you were, show, yes you were.

This the only anime that's ever made me sob uncontrollably, it hits me right in the soft spot

I learned something important from this anime, enjoy the time you are given with the ones you love, because the little things will be what you cherished most in your memories of them.

I love Kaori, I couldn't stop crying when she died. She was so energetic and tough. I'll never forget her or this anime. PS- where does Watari's kicked ball go?

I knew something was up with this OP I had a sudden urge to cry every time an episode started This is why I love Japanese.

(spoiler warning. - duh) scroll down and/or click 'read more' to see the comment. The black cat is also symbolic of Kaori. Or rather, it is in the series, I can't say if it applies to the opening as much as the series itself... But consider, -when Koari randomly calls Kousei, a black cat starts rubbing his leg at the same time. -He explicitly compares her behaviour to a cat, in that if he chases her, she runs away, but if he lets her come to him she's fine. Later, that same (or maybe a different one) black cat gets hit by a car, and he hurriedly carries it to a vet, only to be told it didn't make it, despite his desperate efforts, and foreshadowing kaori worsening substantially not too long after. Kaori's choice of stationary, and the letters she writes to kousei have cat pawprint motifs, and the envelopes are sealed with a sticker shaped like a black cat's head. And, most telling of all, the final shot of the series, where kosei mentions it being spring again, when he met Kaori, and how this is the first spring without her. Exactly as he mentions her, a black cat looks in the direction of the camera from the other side of the railway crossing, and after the train passes, it's gone. Combined with the exact timing of the words spoken, the cat clearly is a symbolic stand-in for Kaori in that final shot. Now, sure, the opening's symbology is slightly different, but this symbolism in the series itself is also quite obvious....

Fabulous job on this one. I really great examination of the OP, and I can't really argue with a single thing you said. I just finished _Your Lie In April_ on Thursday, and, damn, what a heart-breaker that series is! I spent the next 4 hours at work thinking, "Not gonna cry. Not gonna cry. Not gonna cry." This is definitely in my top 5 favourite shows of all time. Not just for anime, but in general!

This anime is a masterpiece.

I can barely look at pictures from this anime without crying... So I decide to watch this. I love bawling.

In one of the episodes towards the end, Arima and Kaori are in a grassy field near a little bridge. At that moment, it was also night time and there were also fireflies. When Arima was walking away he said something along the lines of getting to play with her again *i think* but as he walks off Kaori stops smiling and says silently That she won’t be there for much longer which kinda embraces what was said at the end about how the black cat and fireflies promote her inevitable death.

Bro. You just fucking blew my mind you know that. Now I know why I loved this opening so much now.

I can never watch anything about this anime without remembering watching it in high school and suggesting it to a hard core otaku friend with the disclaimer of sad but good when she asked about anime suggestions. She came to school 3 days later with bright red eyes stormed up smacked the back of my head growled that she hated me and ignored me for two weeks afterwards....ahhhhhh good times.

It's hard to believe the title considering the lie was just Kouri doesn't like Watari. I always thought the lie was more complex and deeper than that. And that was the funniest outro I've ever heard lmfao

I usually skip OP's after watching them a few times, but with this one I couldn't seem to. I now know why.

The second parts ending song is the real tear jerker. Especially after Kaori realizes that she really doesn't want to die.

I literally finished this anime an hour or so ago and now I'm watching this! I'M STILL CRYING!!!

"Your lie in april" the title is being told in kousei's perspective....If not the real title would've been "Kaori's lie in april." (Considering that she told a single lie. That she likes Watari.) i think she had her finger on her lip and her eyes closed because from the start we could tell that kaori likes kousei. So she was telling us to keep it a secret. Like her lie.

This anime makes me cry I have watched it many many many many many,many times from when it come out...

The fact that Kaori actually told Kousei she loves him in the letter, and that Kousei moved on thanks to the closing he got with Kaori and the things she teached him in life... Is very much of a happy ending to me, of course I wanted to see them married and together for life but this was an ending that didn't left me feeling empty. I loved this anime, to the point where it's my new favorite anime.

I would like to offer my interpretation of the scene with the three chairs. Watari and tsubaki are watching the duet. Now the positions are important watari is clearly not included in the love triangle that exists between the characters. Tsubaki is left behind watching Arima and Kaori whose seats are left open for them.

I am pretty sure "heaven" is a salt flat. When the salt flat is slightly flooded, a reflection of the sky appears creating a mirror image. I recognised it as a salt flat because in 4:52 Tsubaki and Watari both have their feet under water. Probably the world's most famous salt flat is the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. Just check it out on Google Images; it is beautiful.

What The!!? This Just Made Me Cry ?More!!!!!

I remember seeing this video like a year or two after it came out, not knowing or caring about this show. I just watched the show and the more I watched it I was like “hmm, this story seems familiar” it wasn’t till the last episode that I remembered this video. My god is this incredible. I’m not an anime fan, but this was a crazy good recommendation from my brother!

I love subtle foreshadowing like this that is nearly impossible to spot unless you already know what is going to happen. It's mindblowing to see that everything has been in front of you the whole time (and in this case repeatedly).

Hearing you explaining all the meanings of the show brought back so many memories of the show. Just hearing what happened made me cry a lil bit again. I didn’t particularly thought this show was perfect or even amazing. But the emotion it has brought to me really stuck with me.

I always got frustrated why Kousai never try to spend any time with her or confess. But after the end, you can see in retrospect that she purposely mislead him and try to put some distance knowing she didn't have enough time and not wanting to hurt him or complicate things with Tsubaki. I have never cried like this, in any show, I will stick with my action/sci-fi animes for now on. A part of my heart died after that end and will never be the same. Amazing story telling

Goddamnit this is going to make me over analyze every single intro to any anime ever Dx This just shows the artistry behind the creators though. I used to think OPs were just kind nonsensical intros, with a little bit of symbolism, but mostly just playful music. I realize now how terribly wrong I am, and that everything that goes into an opening has significance. Even the smallest details 😍
