Literally hearing that ishigami has romantic goals ever and at all makes me genuinely SO HAPPY and I cannot explain why

Some stuff about Love Dramatic you didn't mention: 1) Ishigami is trapped in his card, but that specific card is the Ace, a card worth either 1 or 11. Considering he's the school pariah but also an invaluable member of the student council, his worth being either extremely high or extremely low is extremely fitting. 2) In the psychedelic running section, everyone's run animation is amazingly in character. Chika's run is a typical moe schoolgirl run with hands at her chest, Ishigami is running in terror while looking back, and both Kaguya and Shriogane have excellent running form, though Shirogane is definitely putting more deliberate effort into his. Also, putting the cultural festival into a movie would be a huge disservice. We need season 3. The timing of the fireworks arc, the sports day arc and the festival arc are fairly consistent, to the point people were speculating what the arc around 180 would end up being. Plus, if the series is going to end, it's most likely going to be around chapter 137, because that's the best place to end without doing the whole thing.

Kaguyas weapons were each more “subtle” with traditional roots where Shirogane was more brute force and commercialized symbolizing the nature of their tactics and backgrounds

I, for one, have ZERO complains about the Love is War content.

The weapons actually symbolize how Kaguya uses more subtle and discrete methods to her plans, mostly by having all her weapons (except maybe the bow) to require less physical effort to use and that can be hidden under her sleeve or can go easily unnoticed, meanwhile Shirogane has a much more violent arsenal, kinda implying his approach to things is far more aggressive and less subtle.

I truly appreciate the fact that they got Masayuki Suzuki to do the first and second op, it just wouldn't be a Kaguya-Sama opening without the King of Love Songs.

Eh. That was a ok video Narrator: THAT WAS A LIE! Kaguya is his favorite anime/manga and he can't help himself but love to watch every single video about it in the internet.

Seriously? You looked at the weapons each one has in Love Dramatic and couldn't figure out any symbolism? If you look at them, Kaguya uses either silent ranged weapons like a bow or ninja-like melee weapons like a knife or a Kusari-gama, while Miyuki uses big melee weapons like swords and noisy ranged weapons like a rocket launcher and an assault rifle. Later on, while Miyuki wields a generic 9mm pistol, Kaguya uses a concealable small gun. That is to say, Miyuki is ready for a battle, while Kaguya prepares for an assassination, which completely matches their respective scheming styles in the show: Kaguya is subtle and prepares a lot, while Miyuki is good at improvising when caught off guard.

I like Love Dramatic Daddy Daddy Do is definitely on another level for me! Also I'd like to point out that the shots of the two entering the student council room in Love Dramatic weren't just to save on budget. IMO they were supposed to represent that this relationship developed over time because they look up several times and the frames rewind, meaning to me that it was almost a daily occurrence and then on the last one they blush at the end demonstrating they finally understand their own feelings about the other person.

I actually think the looping shots of Shorogane and Kaguya watching each other enter the room show how the way they view each other changed over time from barely noticing each other day to day, with them just glancing over to see who just entered the room, to having fallen in love in the last part where their reactions change and they become flustered by seeing the other

The 2nd OP is really amazing. I also like how you've incorporated crediting the animators for the specific cuts.

i think the weapons also symbolize how Kaguya was using Japanese weapons showing her rich lineage while Shirogane's more European weapons symbolize how he is an outsider compared to the rich students and when the OP continues the weapons get exchanged a bit symbolizing how the two are influencing one another. Chika as a grenade means how unlike most weapons are aimed at the enemy a grenade can do collateral damage and harm the user as well.Chika being the joker can change the game completely while Ishigami is Shirogane's or Kaguya's usual ace when things get dicey for either of them.

Yes, you have realized how amazing the kaguya manga is. I literally read it in one day, have reread it several times and it's one of the few things I keep up with so consistently. There's just so much _there,_ and despite being inherently ridiculous, it feels real.

Also, Ishigami as an Ace of Spades is perfect. As an Ace, he is both the highest and lowest card in many games - defeated by whoever is on bottom, but often times taking out whoever is on top. He isnt exactly a wildcard, but his role is variable and extreme. This also makes him a trump card. He's the only one who trumps Fujiwara's Joker. Also, as a spade he is only used later in games like Spades - just as he shows up late in the show. As well, in Spades, if used early the ace of spades can be a total waste, but is useful at the end - in other words a card you want to hold onto and not let go. Kinda like the treasurer who doesn't participate in the game much but you must keep around for his ultimate utility, and who is constantly in threat of disappearing even though you may desperately need him later.

2:55 Actually, I think there might be some light symbolism in the specific weapons. For one thing, their choices of weapons could be seen as reflecting traditional gender roles. Miyuki's weapons are stereotypically masculine. Swords are often said to be phallic symbols, while the axe and AK-47 reflect the traditionally male-dominated professions of lumberjack and soldier. Swords were also traditionally given to commanding officers, reflecting Miyuki's role of President. Kaguya's weapons are mostly smaller and might be stereotyped as "easier for women to wield". Since smaller weapons are also easier to conceal, they're well-suited for the kind of meticulously-planned assassination that might appeal to Kaguya. The naginata is something of an outlier, but has its own significance. The naginata is the iconic weapon of the _onna-musha_, upper-class female warriors who defended the household, reflecting Kaguya's social status and the importance of living up to the Shinomiya name.

God this series has consumed my life.

The craziest part of Kaguya-Sama is that season 1 was already fantastic, and then everything about season 2 was just ten times better than that.

You should do a “what’s in an op” over fire force’s “inferno”, I know myself and several of my friends enjoy it but we’re not sure how much substance it has thematically because it kind of just looks like a typical shonen action reel

If the some of the anime this season wasn't delayed, this season would have genuine compitition for best anime this season. But we all know this anime just stomps all anime this season say for Appare Ranman, Arte & my next life as a Villainess.

I guess it's just how my brain works, but details and symbolism just go over my head a lot or I only briefly catch on and forget later. I guess that's why I enjoy watching analytical content like this since it just lets me appreciate all the effort that goes into things I love and make the connections as the information is being presented. I just wanted you to know that I feel personally as blessed by this video as I was with Kaguya's slow transformation from the Ice Queen into Melted Mush With a Crush.

Another touch on Love Dramatic that I'm assuming wasn't touched on because of the timing of the video's release is that the big explosion at the end as well as the heart in the ground with the accessories next to it is the same explosion that occurs at the end of season 2 when the balloon in the game where you can pump it as many times as you want but you have to pump it at least once in order to be relieved and if you reach the limit you lose pops

Great analysis as always, MB! Two points I'd like to add: 1. In the first opening they repeat the reaction shot to the other entering the room four times. This scene feels a bit long, because of the Rule of Three. We expect the shot to be repeated three times or to hace the alteration to occur on the third repetition. Change on the fourth repition is a clever way of showing that these two take longer than others to show their feelings. 2. In the second opening Kaguya shoots the arrow intended for Shirogane in the wrong direction, similarly she is unable to confess to him directly. The arrow flying past and being seen by all the other characters, represents how kaguya's and shirogane's inability to confess leads to the others being involved. In the end the arrow doesn't hit, but when she shot the arrow Shirogane's back is turned to her, so if she had just shot directly it would've reached him. Also his back being turned shows how little he would expect her to confess. Both of these openings are full of these little things and the music fits perfectly!

17:56 It's pretty easy to tell where the anime will end The ED is basically all foreshadowing The Student Council Wants to be Photographed, same way season 1's ED is basically a visual metaphor for I Can't Hear the Fireworks.

Manga spoiler: When rereading the post school festival chapters I've also come to realize that at some point, Osaragi likely had developed a crush on Ishigami, but backed off because she wanted Miko to be happy. But now she wants Ishigami to be happy hence why she's supporting his potential relationship with Tsubame.

Okay, I'm only gonna say this once. I absolutely ADORE Love is War, I absolutely love it's OPs, and I thoroughly enjoy MB's content.... And I'll tell you this now, I didn't know how much I needed Mother's Basement to meticulously dissect both OPs until I realized I rewatched the video four times.

THis is one of the few anime that I watched on a whim and that surprised me so much that I don't even wanna read the manga online, I went and ordered the first few volumes physically to read!

2:10 Actually, the weapons are representations of the tactics that the 2 of them use on each other throughout the show. Myuki's weapons are often associated with masculine users, and Kaguya's weapons are often associated with feminine users. Also, (with the exception of the naginata,) Kaguya's weapons are small and easy to hide, where as Myuki's weapons are large and showy.

About those 1 minute and 30 second openings for Seasons 1 and 2, I've learned so much in your ~30-minute video (from title card animations, psychedelic animation scenes, to the way the Student Council members noticed/do not notice Kaguya's arrow, up to Chika's floating golden ribbon). I've learned so much ... Opening animation cut scenes like Daddy! Daddy! Do! and Love Dramatic are very rich in exploring the series' storylines and foreshadowings.😄

The location of the supporting cast i assumed was based on closeness to the main characters. Which is why that bf/gf and in the back even though they had alot of screentime.

I know you said you didn’t want to dwell on Kaguya for too much longer, but I for one would appreciate a literary analysis of the parallels between the story and the Tale of Princess Kaguya from which the characters derive not only their names but also some of their character traits (ie Chika’s cheating, Ishigami’s depression, or the star motifs in Hayasaka’s design)

Man, I sure miss your OPs analysis videos. Honestly some of your best work... yet this is the only OP analysis you’ve made this entire year. What happened? I remember a time when you made consistently the most polished and interesting videos on AniTube. But recently I feel the only video that comes close to that peak was the Anohana love letter you made. I have a feeling this comment will get a lot of flack, but I’m writing this because it feels like this channel is just... just another recommendation channel now (not to mention the ads but hey, gotta make a living I guess). I hope you go back to your roots and create awesome analysis videos on OPs and EDs again, cuz not gonna lie, every now and then I will watch a show with such a spectacular OP and think to myself “huh I wonder if someone made a video on that.
