In addition to these items you listed, I often carry a light Tombow or Ecoline marker to block in backgrounds or shapes. I am a mixed media artist, so I throw everything at the page. Most times I draw with fountain pen and waterproof ink both before and after painting. I am trying to do more without the pen lately, but I love drawing with it. It is nice to have a few nice things you really enjoy using in your kit.
Hi Julia, I just made a zipper pouch, from Leitz and I have put in some different sizes paper. Also scrap paper pieces for testing colors (Arches, Fabriano, Baohong). The downside is I have to tape them on my board. But maybe I can use bulldog clups as well. I haven’t tried this this out. Nice small books for the handbag and thumbnails are Hahnemuhle travel booklets. Its not watercolor paper, but 140g and can take small washes.
Hi Frieda! Oh! That's a great idea with paper! Taping is not that difficult. Finding a good sketchbook is way more complicated😄 I love that you experiment with different supplies and try to find out what works best for you!
And I have a small whiskey pallet from schmincke with a water container and water tank. I love it but it is quite heavy. In the mid section I have also put half pans. So now it holds 12 half pans.
Thankyou for your ideas as I am still trying to standardise my gear to a suitable size of kit that can be decreased or increased to suit the type of subject and of course the time allotted to make a sketch or small painting I have desired on an A5 size being the most convenient but have recently been considering anA6 for quick small sketches I have recently been trying to make more natural coloured sketches with graphs tint pencils and a graphytint paint box also intense pencils and blocks I wanted to use these methods because there quick and simple to use plus I use water brushes a selection of so you don’t need a water pot hope some of this is useful to you any questions message me regards Steve
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, Steve! Yes, we all constantly looking for a more convenient way of transporting our drawing materials and also for new materials and techniques. It’s a never ending story but a wonderful one! We are changing and our needs are changing as well. That’s amazing.
I have a blog article on colored pencils I use myself for my urban sketches. You can find it here: www.juliahenze.com/post/colored-pencils-i-use-in-my-urban-sketches As for the brush pens, Kuretake Bimoji series is my favorite amzn.to/46LnOOC They have different nibs what is great for different purposes. Hope it helps!😊♥️
