You've probably seen a mezuzah outside a Jewish home, but have you ever seen inside this holy and sacred object to the text inside? In this video I'm going to share what's inside a mezuzah and what words of Torah are written on the scroll.

This is so interesting! A couple years ago me and my family moved to a new house. Apparently the owners before us were Jewish because we have a Mezuzah installed in our door! We never knew what it was until I started learning about Jewish culture and found out. So thank you so much for doing this video! ☺️ Now I get to have an even closer look at it’s meaning and what the scroll says inside.

Very interesting! Does a Rabbi come to the house to do any type of blessing or prayers after it is placed? I've noticed these on homes when we've gone new house shopping

You don't need a Rabbi to put them up. Usually, the head of the household does it and says the blessing of affixing a mezuzah to the door post. If a woman is the head of the household, she does it. If there are different or extenuating circumstances, you can always ask a Rabbi.

New to your site… we just moved to Stetson Valley. West Phoenix. Rebbe is coming to our new home next week to put up our ma Mezuzote. plural lol. Amazing to watch and learn. It feels good to witness a young woman, still in belief!! Yofie. All 3 of my children went to Chabad pre-school and then public school. Set a solid foundation.. for that age!! Kindness. Prayer, manners etc…all infiltrated through play and respect. Just… FYI. I look forward to watching your videos.😊

Also note that if you dont actually have one, you can make one yourself!! Also only your front door needs it!!

Thanks Marian. I didn't realize that it's usual to attach them to every doorframe in the home, I'd thought they were just attached to the frame of the front door.

What do I do if I were to purchase a home or clean a purchased home for a realtor if we have to take it off the wall?? Is there anything specific I can do with it, someone told me to throw them away but I haven't. I have them in a box in my trunk.

Scroll seems to have multiple cracks throughout many of the letters... Namely the large daled...

If there are cracks in one or more of the letters it might not be kosher anymore. A Rabbi has to inspect it. If it is no longer kosher, it has to be buried along with other Jewish holy books and such that are not usable anymore. There are people who collect these things and bury them properly in a Jewish cemetery.

This might be a ridiculous question, but Google isn't very helpful. Is it every possible to find items such as this -- and other ritual items second-hand? (I've seen that vegan ones aren't necessarily considered Kosher).

These are the scrolls outside kosher restaurants right? Also, totally unrelated to this video, but I watched your pride video from a few years ago, and wanted to thank you for posting that. It feels good to know that I can still be a part of a faith community being a trans woman. Like all your videos, it makes me want to learn more about Judaism and consider converting.

The same is done in Catholicism. Catholics put a mini cross in every corner of their home. The also keep a rosary in their kitchen.
