What's inside a Miele KM5731 Induction Hob?

I take apart a Miele KM5731 induction hob. This is for anyone who has the capacitor problem and wants to see how big a job it is to replace them. Obviously switch everything off before doing this.

what was the issue caused by the capacitors, mine has an issue whenever more than 1 hob is on at a time! it doesn't matter what combination, all individually work and boost fine!

@@menadue same, just found the 2 capacitors were bulging, hopefully it will fix it.

Hi , I’m having a different issue with my KM5731… I get a flashing red light every second…on the front panel near the lock symbol..! Nothing else works. I’ve checked the capacitors and nothing wrong..! Any thoughts..! Cheers from Australia, Carlo

Hi. My first thought was that the lock was on, but I don't think the LED flashes when the hob is locked. I think most errors with the hob come up as a fault code on the seven segment displays, so as that isn't happening I'd guess that there could be a power supply problem. Maybe the supply comes up enough to light the LED then has a problem and shuts down, then this repeats? Sorry I an't be of more help.

There was way more in there than I'd expected, you wouldn't have thought there was that much to a fancy coil driver?

It's all digital, so there's processors everywhere, and it looks like they may use DSPs to handle getting the coils in resonance. It's also a set of boards that ar eused in all sorts of different models of hob, so the hardware and code has to be more general than you'd need for one product.

Well, I've had mine apart a few times. I had what I thought was a different fault recently but it turned out that there was nothing wrong with the hob. During fixing it I ended up buying another one, and some PCBS, so I have had that one apart as well as fitted the extra PCBs. I now have 2 hobs and a full set of PCBs. At least I have spares for a while to come...
