the oil is most likely used for sensing when people are seated and the "motor" is just a pressure reader (because its way too tiny to be a motor strong enough to do anything) it being the cooling is also not probable since it had only one tube, therefore no flow of the liquid

That “motor” is actually a sensor that reads the pressure of the oil. When a person sits in the seat the pressure on the bladder compresses the oil so the system knows when there is someone in the seat for seatbelt warnings as well as passenger airbag on and off.

Liquid could be used for PODS system. Its called passenger on board detection system. Based on liquid pressure to identify the passenger is on boarded or not

It's called an OCS mat. Or Occupancy Seat Sensor (OSS), it tells the car car how much the person weighs by moving liquid to a sensor, the car then adjusts safety settings.

The gel is for the cooling seat! Whenever you turn the cooled seat on the motor turns on and pumps the gel through the seat to cool it! The motor may seem small but it has a very easy job. The gel acts like one of those ice packs you get in first aid kits. Whenever there is heat and pressure it starts to become cold. Your but is the heat and the pressure!

That goo that was in the tube is what pressurizes and depressurizes the seat so you can adjust if you want it to come forward or the seat to lean back. It could also be used to transfer the heat coming from the coils.

Hi i did seat safety testing for ford for many years. The pad is a occupancy sensor . it will arm the passenger air bag system automatically. It controls both seat and dash bag .

That gel bladder is the sensor for the seat belts... Like you know when you sit your butt down on the seat the car know is? Yeah.. if you sit on the seat the oil builds pressure and at the end that black 'box' is the pressure sensor telling the car someone is sitting there

My 2010 Prius had a sensor switch underneath for seat pressure. It got wet and fried. the seat would have had to be taken apart to fix it. The bladder is a better idea.

Im guessing the oil is for when someone sits there it puts it under pressure and that little box is a pressure sensor that needs so much pressure b4 the airbag goes off. Or it is for the seatbelt dinger. It seems alot better than just a switch under there that could be set off by take out or a case of pop. I know my seatbelt dinger goes off if I put something 20lbs or so on the seat

I think that jelly is used by to detect you are sit or not in this seat. that jelly are compressing, and they moving to the sensor part. then car can detect , your are sit or not. : )

This makes me curious what’s inside my model 3 seats which are the most comfortable seats I’ve ever experienced. Probably will not be the same as model X seats.

You must not have experienced a lot of seats then...or you've only been driven American cars in your life. The seats really aren't comfortable at all. As a matter of fact, I would say they are the worst part about my M3. But I was already prepared, that when I buy an American car I get very 'couch' like seats with little side support. And thats what I got.

It’s a Delphi ( they have recently changed their name to aptiv ) pods - d system. It weighs the occupant and will enable or disable the airbag it can also changed how the airbag is set of but it depends on if the OEM has paid for that. They are only fitted to North American passenger seats. The rest of the world uses a much more basic system that is basically a switch. The thing they called a motor is not a motor it’s the ecu that measures the changed in pressure of the oil

The funny looking gel could be a liquid cooler to make sure when you're using the heated seat the heater doesn't get too hot and set on fire inside the seat, so it could be to keep the internals of the seat heaters cool when in use maybe 🤔

The liquid in the seat is to detect when someone is sitting in the seat. When you sit on it, it increases the pressure and triggers the pressure switch which is the black box with electrical connectors on the end of the tube. Love the videos - keep them coming please!

The gel is from the seat heating/cooling climate system. It’s a new method of seat climate control that Tesla has patented.

The oil looks like vegetable glycerine holds the right amount of moisture... by pumping slowly and repeatedly into small tubes is keeping seat cool and comfortable.... but definitely this seat needs small fan to circulate air like Mercedes.

Wow didn’t realize there was so much tech inside of an car seat! Also that liquid in the car seat might be, if you have an control in the settings for adjusting height or softness of the seat it might control that.

The softness part might be the answer. I know with the Model 3 the seat warmers are an option you can literally download to upgrade. I wonder if this is just some unused option that was built in.

That liquid is vegetable glycerine for the cooled seat. It flows through, cools you down, then the liquid cycles through and cools down, and the process repeats

I build high end automotive seats for a living. The bladder with oil in it is for sensing the presence of a person. he little box attached to it is a reader. The passenger has one as well. The passenger seat is connected to the air bag system and if it does sense a person the airbags will not deploy.

The bladder is a type of sensor(safet feature) that detect if someone is sitting on it or not because tesla doesn’t get in drive or reverse or not even in neutral until someone is sitting on seat ...try it.. sit inside your car put it in neutral and then just getup from the seat lil bit(without opening door) it will go straight into park

Seat Temperature Control. The motor circulates the fluid as the fan cools it down. Works similar to a RADIATOR. Keeps the seat cool or warm according to the driver's requirement.

The patent doesn't describe what kind of fluid could be used but Car and Driver suggests it is most likely to be some kind of aqueous gel. It also remains to be seen what kind of element will be used to heat and cool the seat.

That oily thing looks like a part of passenger presence sensor. Whenever the person sits on the the pressure is exerted on the liquid & via pipe it goes to pressure sensor.

The gel in the bottom of the seat helps detect if someone is in the seat and turns the airbags on or off depending if they're heavy enough to need it/activate it.

the oil and the bladder is probably used to soft the seat as there is not many layers of foam in the bottom of the seat and also adding extra foam will make the the seat much thicker via making the heat warming feature of the seat not as good

That bladder thing is OCS Sensor. OCS-Occupant classification system It determines that someone is sitting on the car or not. It works on the principal of change pressure.
