Back in 93 i took a older TV to a repair shop to get it fixed. Turned out the repair was gonna cost more than the TV was worth so the shop offered it as a trade in for another one at a decent price, so i went for it. Got to talking with the guy and he stated in less than ten years all TV's will eventually go to LCD's and CRT's will end production soon after. That guy knew the future of TV's, and it wasn't a prediction. He had insider knowledge that they had planned this decades ago.

@@crutchfield only thing I miss about them is the memories, outside of that I miss nothing. I wouldn't trade any of my LCD TV's or my monitors for a CRT. And the worst part is I can't give any away or legally discard any. There's no place around here that will even take them for recycling without driving too far to get there. All they're doing now is taking up space. Got a deep holler I know of and I'm tempted to toss em' off in it... Lol... and one is a 32"... hurt my back some one time lifting it by myself... I'm not sure if that tv had it, but where are the voice listening devices in the tv? I am wondering if it's something that I can remove when I buy a new tv? Have you done this before and tried to power it on with that hardware removed? For example, if the tv's operating system is trying to load Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri, but the hardware was removed, what is the OS's response and will the tv still function without it?
@crutchfield
@crutchfield 10 месяцев назад
We do not get information about the programming and any responses that my be written in the code for when that gear has been removed. Also we do not research the TV's to gain that knowledge or perform tests on how they operate after the removal of the gear. However we do know that there have been times when the microphone used to pick up the voice commands is in the remote. If you get a model like that, it is very likely that you would not need to open the TV to remove the listening devices

There is not a separate polarizing film. Anything like that would be built into the glass sandwich layer (the first big sheet to come off the TV) and cannot be separated. However, you might enjoy getting your hands on the diffuser layers from a TV panel

@crutchfield
@crutchfield Год назад
If the panel is properly working, that could be burn-in image retention on the screen. This is unlikely to get worse or spread to other parts of the screen. If it is an issue being caused by a malfunction in the panel or processors, then it is likely that the stain will spread or get worse.

@crutchfield
@crutchfield 2 года назад
This is always a tough question as there is no cut and dry answer to it. We recommend that you first check with the TV manufacturer about the likelihood that a repair can be done and possible repair costs on your current TV. If the TV still has warranty, the we recommend getting it repaired. If not and the cost is close to the price of a new TV, then it may not be worth getting repaired.
@michaelvroom9098
@michaelvroom9098 Год назад
i know this is a year late, but should this ever happen in the future, it's something to think about. Way at the end where you saw the LEDs on the back chassis, the glue that holds the lets say plastic cap on the LEDs is often pretty poor and will fail over time. This causes bright orbs in the screen because the light isn't diffused properly anymore. An easy way to check if this is the case is to turn the TV on it's side, or upside down. If you hear what seems to be legos rolling around inside the TV, theres your problem. This can be fixed by simply adding new glue, but obviously needs to be done by someone who knows how to take a TV apart. I've had a couple of the Samsung curved tv's where this was the case, people almost threw out a 1500-2000 dollar TV because of a (....add price of a good, clear transparent contact glue lol...) dollar problem.

Hello doctors:) I buy TV LG UM65' 7050 PL before 20 days, and when i try to put HDMI cabel i put Tv on table on side of screen, my mistake. When i turn on TV was in a lot of color like screen is broken. Can i switch that and what you purpose? Thank you.
@crutchfield
@crutchfield 3 года назад
There are numerous parts that could have been affected by the opening of the TV and attempted insertion of the HDMI cable. If you are capable of reversing your work, that might fix it. If damage was done to one of the video circuits, then you may need to consult a TV repair shop for help isolating the issue to know if it can be repaired

Hi, this may be a silly question, but how do TVs actually produce their graphics and render an image? Do they have GPUs or video processors inside them, or is the graphics handled by the CPU on the motherboard? Thank you.
@crutchfield
@crutchfield 3 года назад
There is a main processing chip that handles most functions for the TV - including the image creation. For example with Sony it is their X1 chip, which you can find out more about here: electronics.sony.com/bravia-x1-processor
@baz914
@baz914 3 года назад
@@crutchfield Thank you. Does the scaler chip/board do any image processing at all?
@crutchfield
@crutchfield 3 года назад
That should be the chip used if the TV is not getting an image that is the same resolution as its native display. It would only provide processing when the incoming video's resolution is lower than the TV's.

Great video! I wanted to ask: How tough is that front panel on one of these TV's? My cat likes to occasionally bat at the screen when he climbs up on the TV stand. Also, while I was getting ready to put the feet on my new Sony 4K TV, he was "nice" enough to walk across part of the screen. It still had the protective plastic on it, but still...
@crutchfield

We have not seen any details on how much force is needed to scratch it or cause other harm. I would be worried about the nails causing damage more so that I would a cat pad part of the paw.

An aqquaintence of mine took his tv apart because it broke. He found 25 small little clear square cartridge looking things. They looked to have some type of circuitry in them. Theres no sense in repeating what he thinks they are because theyre not, hes just an eccentric type of fellow. Im assuming they are some type of lighting or reflector for light, but i would love to go back to explain that they are not what he is claiming them to be and help him relax a little. Can you please explain to me what those are. He literally took apart his Tv flat screen and found like 25 of them. What are they?

my first ever lcd tv (moving on from my good old panasonic 32inch crt tv) i brought back in 2006 and lasted me till 2018 without a single issue. sony bravia 42inch. the best tv i ever had. i then finally upgraded to these fancy led/4k blah blah blah latest tvs and i've gone through two of them in the last 2yrs, the worst tv's i've ever had. the first i brought in 2018, a LG 55inch 4k and lasted all of 1yr. one day it suddenly didn't want to turn on, stupid of me not to buy warranty. took it in for tv repair and they messed up the repair twice so i just didn't give a fuck anymore and just brought another 4k panasonic, since LG left a bad taste. just a few months back this fucking tv started to show purple patches on the screen. REALLY??????? like i'm having so much bad luck with tv's its driving me mad.

Very tired of being told everywhere to not do stuff because supposedly only experts should. How patronizing. 100% safety = 0% freedom. Taking things apart may increase IQ. The woman who scored highest on an IQ test was left alone at home and grabbed her dad's tools, taking apart the toaster and washing machine and you name it. How about instead just saying: RU-vid appreciates it when we put out a disclaimer like, if you do this on your own, it is at your own risk, you take responsibility for your decisions instead of trying to find someone to blame.
