What's my Lie Angle? Dynamic Lie Test

So I tested my lie angle and basically I was striking the ball more upright so my ideal setting would be 1 degree flat, not what I expect it.
To check your lie angle simply use a sharpie pen, draw a line on the ball and see where the markings are on the club face after you hit the ball. Towards the toe means you are hitting it too flat, towards the hosel, means you are hitting to upright, like me.
This is great for custom fitting a club.

A line pointing towards the heel means you need the club more upright as the toe is pointing down through impact.

Some use a board but it's just not natural, I would say this is the best way to check.

Hmm this is pretty interesting. As I'm using one length I merely need 1 club to try it out. My feel is saying me that my clubs should need to be little bit more upright. Cool Erich. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

I’m sure someone in the comments has already corrected you but you need upright to correct your face mark not flatter. Best way to think of it is look at the grooves and see what way the iron needs to be bent to make the grooves 90deg to the mark. I’m sorry but your left miss isn’t lie related. Thanks yes I figured out, yes my left misses were closed face which I finally fixed at address, but I never got my irons fitted for upright setting

This is far better than the old lie boards. Those were off because they were off the ground. You can use lie to aid you in a miss however. If you tend to pull the ball, a flatter lie can help. If you tend to push the ball, more upright lie can help. I currently play my irons 3 degrees flatt.

Another great video. I noticed that when I hit from a mat my shots were leaking slightly to the right. When hitting on the turf the flight was not affected. I checked the length chart which suggested I needed a half inch longer shaft in my clubs. I have read that this adds only about 0.3 of a degree to the lie angle however, it has stopped the ball leaking to the right.

That's great news man, you have to play around with all the variables to have the perfect club. I used to lose it to the right too, but I feel that playing a draw is much better for me, except when I hook the ball of course 😂

Your lie should not be flatter! You should bend it upright.

I think that’s better than changing the lie on the club, but maybe a little flatter would help 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@thebackyardgolfer7010 why flatter? The line points towards the heel. If you bend the clubface more flat, the line would point even more to the heel.

hitting off a firm mat will not show correct lie angle as the club cant dig in, especially on tow down shots, it will hit the mat first and spring back straight, grass or a mat when the ball can sink into is needed for the true angle, also it the opposite, line pointing toward hosel is too flat, pointing toward toe is too upright

@@thebackyardgolfer7010 short grass is good but it can be kinda hard to see the line but do it enough time you'll definetly see it, I did this test and the lies are so far off it impossible for me to hit the ball straight, it just flies dead right
