He was also outstanding in The Saint. And in Maverick. He had quite a career before he became Bond. And I hear he was a very conservative man. Which means he was smart, classy and was against looting stores and attacking police.

When Roger landed the role of Simon Templar he was given carte blanche via a blank cheque in the choice of car he used in the series. Most people expected him to keep it British and expected him to come back with something like a top of the range Jaguar or something similar. I think they were a bit stunned when he opted for the Volvo P1800S but they were very sporty too. I used to own one and great cars indeed and fetching good money for them now. They used four cars throughout the series. Incidentally he was the highest paid actor in the Saint television series earning £1000.00 Pounds per episode. A staggering amount for the time.

Chad - I would gladly pay you $100 ( hundred dollars ) if you can find the "What's My Line" that was taped in Oct. 1974. I was a young contestant on that program and I have not, as yet, seen myself on Television! To this day, Soupy Sales and Arlene Francis left quite the impression! Steve

There is no comparison to the 50's what's my line - poor arlene francis she could see how much it had degenerated from the erudite elegance and sophistication of Bennet Cerf and Dorothy Kilgannon, et. al. Roger Moore was in his late 40's at this point and at his utter handsomest - very smooth, always a gentleman - such a charming person. And he was dead center on accents - a quintessentially british actor and accent playing a western cowboy/Gary Cooper voice, fooled the entire panel - they were so thrown by the accent persona.
@hizgrase
@hizgrase 2 года назад
Agree. No comparison. Once it got to this point no reason to watch except for Arlene Francis maybe Larry has a little bit of couth and possibly the most three guests depending on who they are
@manidig

Yes. For one thing this was a daily show that aired five times a week (all shot on tape in one day). The older version was once a week on Sundays at 10pm and was more like an adult after dinner game of charades. Since it was on during the day it was aimed at housewives and kids and it had to be faster and "hipper." The music alone makes it feel different.

@@manidig Good Lord the difference, look at the elegance, manners and good taste of an adult after dinner show for adults to enjoy on Sunday nights - how everything was done in the right frame of mind with goodness and right values back then - we have to fight for what these satanists have boldly and brazenly taken from us.

I think these later WML episodes are so bad. They give clues as to the contestants line and the line is guessed in no time flat. And the whole re- formatted show just sucks. I think I'll go back to the 50s version thank you very much. BYE!

I’m currently reading the book producer Gil Fates wrote on both the old network and this syndicated version of WML. He addresses this, stating they added those clues in syndication for multiple reasons, all of which were to purposely make each spot shorter: They thought the opening minutes where the panel groped around cluelessly to be boring and wanted to cut to the chase. Syndicated shows required more space for commercials, so the show had to be shorter in general. The shorter questioning allowed time for the interviews and demonstrations, which original host John Daley would never have approved of but which the production staff thought would be fun to include. Interestingly they also accounted for the opposite problem, running too short, which we see in this episode. That’s when they pull out that Who’s Who game. It’s a fascinating read, and I quite recommend it!
