Exactly. I didn't even see the cat nor the mustache. All I saw was a man who is deeply in love with a girl who's scared/nervous? And their relationship is probably a seceret since he snuck to her window. TL:DR the painting helped me make sure I'm an intuitive.

@@cymonka3492 I agree. Recently I have been studying about cognitive functions as well! It helps to understand mbti better. Those edgy people are just immature intj wannabees. I also took a test (forgot the name of the site too bad but it starts with "S") this site actually shows a breakdown of all types and the percentage of how close you are to them. The ultimate result was intj, followed closely by percentage are: infj, entj then istj. These are often my closest kin or even mistypes, I would say.

This is why the educational system is so detrimental to intuitives. I struggled with math because of the method my teacher was using- explaining the procedure briefly and then doing a bunch of exercises on the board after which we would have to make our own. I hadn't even finished understanding the mechanism of the procedures and she was already asking for answers.

Sadly, many intuitives have had the same experience, mostly in K-12. Sensors have their own struggles, though, especially in liberal arts college classes, where most of the instructors are intuitives and offer lots of theories and big picture but not many concrete examples.

I just find it hilarious how much sensory information I miss on a daily basis. I can be directly looking at you, listening to the story of your life, but I won’t notice what color your eyes are or what you’re wearing until we’ve finished talking. It takes me one HUGE conscious effort to stay out of my head and it’s really problematic.
@willowtreetraining

It sounds like you're an Intuitive. Intuitives have trouble noticing and remembering details and specifics like you described. I am an Intuitive, and I often struggle to remember people's names when I meet them. I'll get to the end of the conversation and realize I have no idea what their name was! 🙃 Like you said, it takes a LOT of focus for Intuitives to notice and especially remember specifics like that - but keep working at it!

john cena That happens to me, as well, except for the past thing. I’m really bad at recalling anything in detail. From what I ate yesterday and where I left the keys (have lost them over 10 times on the last 3 months lol), to major episodes of my life. I just have a notion of what happened and why, but not what exactly happened and who was there. I need to rely on others to remember those things for me because my memory is just too bad. However, I’ve noticed I instinctively follow and adapt to successions of events, perfectly recall sensorial patterns (like music), and pretty much “remember” anything as long as it’s connected to something else. That’s why school was always incredibly frustrating for me, because we were required to memorize random facts and concepts, while I’ve always learned better from the top to the bottom so I can understand how everything works as a whole.

@lightningandodinify
@lightningandodinify 4 года назад
@@KingaMoor I should remove these old comments of mine. My opinions change often as I continue learn and correct my understanding. I've been made aware that MBTI is unsuccessful in its goal to determine 'core personality'. This weak theory doesn't seem to have seen any improvements either. No doubt because it was probably wrong to begin with and cannot deny its critics. However, none of the philosophies surrounding its "traits" have changed for me. This idea that all personality traits are of equal quality is ridiculous. This casual dismissal through "everything is relative" is what leads to foolish conclusions such as reasoning that fecal matter is art, or that genocide is an "alternative" moral. People who maintain such examples as not revealing of the flaws of casual relativism are disingenuous. There is no sanctuary away from the subjective. Even data alone will provably undetermine any scientific theory that employs it. Rationality is ultimately a project in determining 'facts' about the subjective. An apt analogy is in those who think they can run away from having a political opinion. No matter how we organize or define concepts, the "thinker" is superior. Though there is no shortage of characteristics that fall under this archetype. We ought to strive to improve our faculties in every way. Imagination, calculation, empathy, logic, rationality, music sense, organization, memory, cunning, charisma, empathy... Everything. A human need not be lacking. This idea that a strength is always paired with a relevant and polar weakness is just poetic wishful thinking that ironically serves no one. We are not optimized starting classes in some RPG. The only real thing holding back multi-mastery is time. I also maintain my ableist position with regards to fundamental abilities or "core personality" as MBTI would have you believe. That being said, I obviously don't advocate discrimination. Research on personality is just not at the point of answering the kinds of advanced (and often philosophical) questions people have about themselves. Even "successful" systems such as the big 5 only offer primitive or trivial facts that most people are already aware of through mere casual introspection. Hopefully, I'll be more careful with my comments henceforth so that I can put an end to responding to views I no longer hold.

Remember that you use both every day, but one is more comfortable and natural for you. If you feel like you are both, then you have learned very well how to do the one that isn't your preference, which means you have achieved a good balance. That's a good thing! But you do have a natural preference, and it's the one that you probably go to first. Think about the parts of your job that you maybe do well, but you wish you could avoid or delegate. Intuitives usually want to delegate detail work like data entry or dealing with budgets while sensors might prefer to avoid big picture tasks like strategic planning or "visioning"-type meetings.

When I did a test for MBTI, it showed how many percent I got out of a hundred per dichotomy. And for this dichotomy, I got 84% intuitive and 16% sensor so the difference is huge and I could quite agree cause I notice it myself too. With yours though, it's probably closer with 50:50, prolly around 60:40 whichever side you feel more natural with. Still, there's hardly ever someone who get 100% for a dichotomy since there are many factors affecting our behavior and I believe human's mind is adaptable and could respond differently even with our default response.

Almost everyone has developed sensing and intuition, the difference between sensors and intuitives is in where we put our mental energy, the physical reality or the possibilities and deeper meanings. When i see a picture I notice the details a milisecond before the meaning, but in my life I pour most of my energy into the practical and I think about imaginative stuff and possibilities only just for fun, so I'm a sensor. I hope this helped somebody who was indecisive.

Everybody uses both. It even says so in the video. I am an N. The words "statistically speaking" are one of my most used phrases. Although, like many N's, I was like, "what cat?". An easy way to tell if you are an N or an S is how you remember history. Are you more likely to tell me it happened between this year and this year, and that it involved x number of people, or this list of countries, or are you more likely to tell me the story behind it. This person (or a person) did this, and it caused this. One example. My husband (an S) and I were recently talking about books about WWII. He was talking about the when's and where's (the invasion of Peleliu and Okinawa, 1943-46), I was talking about the interactions between characters (young man drops out of college to become a marine, sent to Japan, there was this guy...). We were ten or fifteen minutes into the conversation when we figured out we were talking about the same book. (E.B. Sledge's "With the Old Breed")

I actually wonder what a sensor has over an "intuitive". It seems that an intelligent person is an intuitive with all the skills of a sensor. On the other hand, I have a hard time imagining these supposed "sensors" being intuitive. I'm supposed to believe that most people are so limited? The qualities of a sensor seem like the kind of low order intelligence I expect from anything surpassing a chimpanzee. I guess at the very least, a sensor is especially good at these lower forms of intelligence compared inferior animals. Yet a keen intuitive should eclipse them completely. Thankfully it seems that I'm not alone in this skepticism and there are alternative theories, with one arguing for a mutually inclusive relationship between observation and intuition. I doubt your average Joe is the simple minded primate that MBTI would suggest.

A big picture is great to have an overall idea of where you are heading, but without all the small picture details that you do day in and out, you will never reach that vision. Pretty common in the workplace. Intuitives can come up with great ideas and sensors can help make that a reality

It's hard to tell a person's type from a description like that, but I do have a few thoughts. First, a lot of Intuitive (N) Thinkers (T) or NT's think of themselves as people who use all of the letters in a pretty balanced way as you described. NT's are the Rational Temperament and they believe in life-long learning and want to be competent at everything they do. We have videos on all the Temperaments, so you could watch the one on the Rational Temperament to see if it fits you. And since it sounds like you need to recharge on your own, I agree with you that you sound like more of an Introvert than an Extravert. It's hard to tell from your description whether you're a Judger (J) or a Perceiver (P) because you don't talk about how you organize your daily life. So maybe you can watch some of our videos on Judging vs Perceiving to see which one you think fits you best.

For now I fit pieces that tell me to be an INFP, although I also have my doubts, I did the test and besides that I investigated part by part, it's just that I don't know if I'm J or P, and that I only act like P because of what surrounds me and not because of how I am as a person, I have no idea yet.

I LOVED the painting example. Yes I am definitely intuitive, When looking at the painting I immediately zoomed in on the couple's faces and was thinking, He is really coming onto her but she is not so sure and he is intimidating her. Now my husband on the other hand is a sensing soul and I have come home to tell him about something I saw like this couple and he will ask me about all these details like what color was her dress, what was she doing? Did the man have a hat on, did he have a mustache? Husband cannot believe that I don't pick on these details and I have often told him these details don't have anything to do with what I am talking about! LOL

So I find myself lately thinking a LOT about the differences. Whenever I took the test I‘ve got a sensor type (ISFJ, sometimes ISFP) and I didn‘t really question it, because I‘ve been in a close friendship where I would find myself doing everything for the other person. I could remember whatever they told me and I bought a lot of gifts etc. Besides this friendship I‘ve never acted like that in any kind of relationship. On top of that I‘m a very insecure person. I‘m often questioning if I really am a sensor or if I just became comfortable in using Si because it prevents me from trusting myself - which I can‘t/don‘t feel comfortable doing because it would probably increase my mistakes society sees? I don‘t know if I expressed myself clearly.

The painting example was really helpful! I did obviously notice the man and woman (but not that she had wool in her hands) , but my focus was on what their dynamic was. Is he trying to seduce her into dark deeds, seeing as he is in the background in the shade and she is sitting in the light and has a white on her dress which usually represents purity. Reminded me a bit of the Eve and the Serpent storyline. I take in the vague overall picture and I guess strive first to understand the motives and mechanisms going on underneath.

When people are stuck on sensing vs. intuition, we typically remind them that sensors outnumber intuitives by about 3 to 1 in the population, so there is a really strong bias to develop sensing skills. So those who are on the fence are often intuitives who have learned how to pay attention to details. Not always, but think about whether you tend to get general impressions or focus on the meaning first, and then look at the specifics, or if it's the other way around.

Study Carl Jung's functions. It's not the same as MBTI at all. For example there are no introvertion or extraversion in people but in functions. A function can be introverted or extraverted there. It's the only way to truly know how your brain perceives the world.

Remember that we all use both sensing and intuition, so it's common for people to use both when they look at the picture. Your type is based on which of the two you naturally prefer and which feels most comfortable for you, though, so most times, that's what people use first. Intuitives don't always interpret a picture like you would in an art history class, but they usually ask themselves questions or wonder about things in the picture that aren't readily apparent from just looking at it. So when you looked at the picture, did you see really specific details (like the mustache, wool on the spinning wheel, and individual leaves on the trees) or did you see and wonder about the bigger picture kinds of things (like the time period of the picture or what he might be whispering to her). Even when they don't see a message or find meaning in a picture like this, intuitives usually have questions or thoughts about the picture that can't be answered just by looking at it.

In the picture, I did the 5Ws: Who, What, Where, When, and Why. Initially I tried looking at the meaning of the picture, but I began looking at each thing individually, the people, the objects, and their surroundings. I was gathering information to understand what was happening. BTW, how could we be sure that the guy is hoping for a date when he's not making eye contact with her but somewhere else? I get tested as sensing and I agree with it because I don't make things up unless there are observable things to go by.

@@amandawolfe4097 yes we all do but those intuitives end up like thay because of the sensor world. This world is made up of mostly estjs & other sensors (around 50-60%) & messes up mostly intuitives unless it's countries like Finland(INFP mostly), Japan(XNXP, XNXJ), & France (XXNJs) etc. This causes them to have more immaturity. For example school in America is usually ESTJ. It's rival is an INFP student. To the INFP they will usually get diagnosed for having ADD at a young age for being so disorganised & daydreaming because they don't like being in structured education with a lot of detailed info. Being in strict rules will make them feel like the only escape is daydreaming. That can team up with Si & make them lazy & not want to try anything new even giving up good passions or values. Se & Te is one of their inferior / Auxiliary functions so clumsiness follows, & end up being dumb in learning the ESTJ way. Usually they end up being either depressed & fed up with it going into SJW & end up being the ignorant social activist shoving no logical ideas because they think forcing it will compensate for the lack of Te. That's one example but others might be INTPs end up being that disposable friend or end up being living in their mom's basement doing nothing with their Ti. I've seen INFJs who are kinda scary because their perceptions on reality. I'm just saying that intuitives usually get diagnosed with a lot of disorders which are not disorders at all & end up thinking they have disorders which worsens everything. If you want to make your ENFP friend to do something productive with their life then force them to read books so they can be concrete with their values but no fictions. They are fast readers but also enough stimulation for their imaginations. For INFPs get them into spirituality (so they can love themselves) Or offer them to study MBTI, read books. Most intuitives I've seen get called weird or outcasted, sensors can be too (poor ISFPs) but usually some of them will go to physical substances from my experience while intuitives their minds are the substances themselves & they get disconnected with in their concept of non concrete interpretation from being called weird, annoying, bullied etc. & makes them even more delusional INTPs for example will be Apathetic to those people & go inside their own world causing them depression & boredom = Laziness = they are afraid what others feel = thinks their own world is reality etc. Same with all intuitives.

@@amandawolfe4097 take Finland for example, their education systems are one of the best in the world but for sensors it's like why is it too hard? Because usually it's shaped around from an intuitive perspective, their culture is not a small talk culture. People will avoid almost anyone & if you ask them how are you? Even if they know American culture they might feel like they need to say "I'm not really good these days ...(long ass reason)...etc." The society & its government is very INFP. They fear being the same & not having equal right so their government takes away more money if you're rich & gives you more money if you're poor so there's not much of a difference in the rich vs poor money gap. There's no problem with men & women getting equal pay. In Japan for INFPs it's based on their dreamland. I mean c'mon the anime fantasy in akihabara & all these subcultures they have is very INFP. The technology is based on an INFP saying "what if we had this?" Or "what if this existed that would be awesome!" & the other intuitives there make that technology etc. Without INFPs people wouldn't have poetry or have social change. Without ENFJs people wouldn't have Marther Luther king even or Nelson Mandela. Without intuition we wouldn't have depth. Understanding is all we need. If sensors would stop thinking they are weird Or let them be & intuitives thinking the world is against them, then people can work together than society falling apart. The More intuitive types in sensors can translate intuitive "communication while the intuition types with more sensory language can translate it so it can be more understandable to the intuitives.

@@amandawolfe4097 I never assumed sensors as that. My whole family is a sensor based family. My father is an ISTP for example & he's very intelligent. I'm an intuitive but we both have different intelligences. I'm an INFP too but all INFPs are all academically inclined at a younger age. It's when they get to like middle school or high school where they consider dropping out or like someone described it, you're living because you can't die or in this case you're going to school because you have no choice. but having traumatic experiences myself made me think logic in a different way even as it's my inferior function. I think as logic as concrete imagination but to make something out of let's say you physical environment I use details as imagination & the result as the dream is the way I interpret for example the way my father makes furniture or when I help him build parts of the house (I still am really fucking bad with my Se function like dropping things or even forgetting to feed my body when I'm focused on something). It's hard to explain maybe because it's my perspective but that's the best I can express. When it comes to my Fi, past family Trauma & being with an ISTP in general (they can have offensive sense of humour to where at least my father thinks that fights are fun) & my trauma was my parents physically fighting & torturing me with what side i was with between both & if i picked the wrong side i would get thrown out of the house at 12 years old. I still have to deal with extreme indecisiveness but i came up with the conclusion that im tired of my own shit too so i just suddenly know what i want in the long run. I got me immune to some things when it comes to jokes or people trying to hurt me. I'm more like an INTP in the sense of I can somehow turn off my feelings if I feel attacked & try to think of the logic my father has taught me: life is a joke, but take it serious enough to make you happy. My sister is an ISFP so her self esteem gets really low to the point where she would overdose & would use drugs like Xanax & other opiods which is one of the worst & addicting drugs. Same with my father (cocaine & meth). Couldn't leave the house because of emotional attachment but i thought If something happens to them, I did my best, but now it's time for me to move on. & as INFP that was hard because INFP are loyal & really delusional to emotional manipulation & now even that doesn't affect me what so ever. Idk about how to know between ENTJ vs ESTJ but you can look at what are your temperaments. It's the best way to type yourself. Look at CS Joseph's channel to know what are your fears etc. Because that's the best way to know which one you are

The painting example is rather misleading. That exercise designed to show how intuitives and half of sensors will see the whole picture and the rest will see parts first, depending on their cognitive functions. However, the exercise works better with abstract pictures with ambiguous meaning because all humans are designed to see simple scenes like that painting as a whole first.

If you saw the details first before interpreting it, then you are probably a sensor. Intuitives don't usually notice the little details, at least initially. I tested as IxTP the last time I took a certified MBTI test, btw--which is partly what draws me to vids like this. I take this to mean that I needed to see (sense) some "key" details of expression/interaction before interpreting (intuiting)--what I think I saw (but not before I [T]hought about/analyzed it for a bit). I mean, I guess, it can't really JUST be an impression at that point if I'd decided to make a whole internal process out of it. But I'm also generally terrible, at first, at seeing/describing people's physical attributes (like EVERY "S quality" the speaker claims Sensors would likely notice first), in real life, when asked, "What's she like?" by other people.
@willowtreetraining
@willowtreetraining 6 лет назад
I really like your interpretation of the picture, and your explanation of how you approached it was very helpful! The Sensing vs. Intuition dichotomy is challenging for a lot of people to figure out. From your description of how you interpreted the picture and your statement that you are terrible at seeing specific details about people in real life, it sounds like you may be an Intuitive. Since Sensors outnumber Intuitives by about 3 to 1 in the population as a whole, there is a strong cultural bias toward being a Sensor, so many people who aren't sure about which they prefer are Intuitives who have learned to use their sensing function because that is the expectation of most people. So it can be confusing when you take the MBTI assessment because you might "behave" as a Sensor at work, for example, but actually naturally "prefer" Intuition. In terms of how you viewed the picture, the process you used is pretty Intuitive. Intuitives typically use details to help them support their big picture view of something. So you looked at the picture, analyzed it, drew a few conclusions and THEN used the details to support your conclusions. If you were a Sensor, you would have seen the details first, and then maybe put them together to reach a conclusion, but many Sensors just stop after seeing the details because they interpret our question to think about what they "see" very literally. I hope this helps! Let us know if you have more questions!

I think I lean on the intuitive type though because despite focusing on details I wouldn't call myself observant. I miss a lot of things visually, and I use my imagination all the time and need metaphors to understand something.

When you are rooted in being you can chose ur personality type, you can even blend all types together with varying degrees of intensity...

Hmm I wonder if that's just a preference for intuition, and then using their imagination to play roles in life, seeing the benefit of using different functions when and where. Could a sensor do that very easily I wonder? But perhaps it depends on what you mean by being 'rooted in your being'.

I've been trying to figure out my type for years, it's too difficult, Other than being an introvert I feel like all the rest I split 50/50. I feel like things aren't always one or the other, sometimes it lands in a grey area.

Do you actively seek knowledge (SP), imagine what could be (NP), passively fetch information (SJ), or try to make conclusion from what you know (NJ)?

I can definitely relate to you. I know i'm a sensor and a feeler, but I can never choose between the E/I and the P/J. I know i'm an ambivert, so choosing between E and I is really hard for me. I also tend to have both traits of the perceiving and judging one. I'd rather work and then play, but I'm really messy with my work. It's so confusing....

However the points you made after 3:48 can be easily relatable for both intuitives and sensors but previous points were much useful for differentiating between the two. In simple words Sensors rely on what they really see in the world and with most people, most proven and secure whereas intuitives go with thinking about more depth and their instincts. They feel a curiosity and they see the things that are not physically visible. But there is still much more, there are several differences between 8 types of sensors and 8 types of intuitive. But your last example can confuse maybe both intuitives and sensors.

For the painting part it took about a half a second to see the man was flirting with the women but then I noticed how good the lighting is in the painting and started wondering how long the artist worked on the piece and works before it. My thoughts went outside that painting so fast.

I feel the exercise was a bit hampered by the context in which he painting was presented. We are told quick-fire, "Look at this painting!" And given what, 5 seconds to look at it? So who on Earth is going to concentrate enough to see meaning OR intricate detail? Like another commenter, I'm an N and all I thought was "Man looking at a woman". There's no way I was going to contemplate the meaning of the painting (whether it depicts two lovers, etc.) without actually having time and space to interrogate it. Likewise, it's unlikely I'd have the time to ascertain little details like whether the guy has facial hair, the white wool thing...hell, I didn't even notice there was a cat, had to look for it after the video pointed it out. Shorthand videos like this may work for explaining key points about the types, but there's no way you're going to diagnose somebody (and they shouldn't diagnose themselves) based on such a flimsy exercise.

The first thing I was thinking to myself was "I wonder what he is saying to her, is it a secret?" I never once thought about what they were wearing.

I’m not able to figure out what fits me best. I like details, and if I’m doing something I like to know how I’m doing. But I know that I do learn differently than others. School wasn’t easy for me. I really needed teachers to be open to showing me other ways to learn or look at things differently. Not that they would do it. I just wished they would. Where would I fall into?
@willowtreetraining
@willowtreetraining 6 лет назад
Think about what you need first. Do you need the detail first before you can see the big picture? Or do you need a context or overview first before you can figure out how the details fit in? We all do both, but we are typically more comfortable starting with what comes easiest.

Willow Tree Training & Professional Development well. I prefer to know the what’s the point of what people are telling me. Because sometimes they give unnecessary details or they take too long to tell me what they’re trying to explain. I only pick and choose what topics I prefer details on, I guess you can say.
@willowtreetraining

It sounds like you want the "why," which is a typical intuitive trait. If you are an intuitive, you want the details that help to explain the "why" and the big picture, and the rest are just "noise."

I am so completely and equally both that I just don't know which one I actually am. I've always had a knack for looking at the big picture, innovation, and/or going with my gut instinct, but I'm also detail organized and orientated as well as a perfectionist. I am a passionate novelist/writer, but I also excel at and enjoy administration. It's like being ambidextrous. In the picture, I was literally thinking about what story was behind it at the exact same time as noticing the colour and style of her dress, what they both look like, and what she's sitting on. No matter how it's explained, I can't seem to lean more towards one way or the other. I feel like I have an oxymoron personality when it comes to these four MBTI types. I tend to go right down the middle on all of them. Is this even possible?

The guy is a private detective she hired to find out if her lover is cheating her. But the cat does not give a damn and just wants to chill ( I noticed the cat much later). Sadly the bastard cheated her because the detective or spy looks very serious and she as if her nightmare came true. He stands by the window and wispers very quiet because she wanted a discret guy, which he really is. The first thing I noticed was the interaction between the people and their facial expressions and was imidiatly interested in what the guy may tell her. EDIT: I really like that picture. Maybe from Italy? It somehow reminds me of mediterrane Europe, but I do not know why. I guess it is the hat and the clothing of the guy. The hat could also been from middle or northern Europe. I guess that was intuitive. Or maybe not?
