Said it before but just want to say it again. Thank you so much for your videos! You are truly a genius of c4d. I will be paying for a rocket lasso membership for sure if I ever start to make money with massive amount I have learned from you! You are a c4d superhero in my eyes.
Your channel is always the first place I go to when there is a C4D update, thanks again for being the best! Thicken is going to be the most useful to me, I can already see 3 projects currently in progress where it will come in handy.
Greatness, C4D is slowly becoming a very procedural software, a "more user-friendly Houdini"... for the future, would be nice to include a sort of FEM simulator inside C4D! Hey Chris, would you consider to upload in at least 1440p? It gets a bit too muddy on 4k screens.
What a great tutorial. Comprehensive, detailed, and easy to listen to! I like how you are going over your train of thought, it provides a great insight into how to go about solving problems in C4D. Thank you so much for making this!
How to create geometry node modeficator that solves the problem of the intersection of one geometry with another. So far, the best manual way I do this is through the volume builder and the shrink wrap modifier + smooth the result. It would be very cool to have such a flexible tool that would get in a few clicks and options to get a new shape without crossing objects
updated to cinema 4d 2023.2.0 and didn't get the new Commander. I did get the new nodes though. weird! EDIT: I figured it out: If you had customized shortcuts in 2023.0 or 2023.1 and installed Cinema 4D 2023.2 to the default path, the Shift+C shortcut for Commander will continue to map to the legacy Commander rather than the new one. To resolve this, you must manually remap Shift+C to the new "Commander...".
Amazing video as always, Chris. I have a question, I'm currently doing a vfx shot where I have to match some CG to some live action. I've always done this by using the Backplate section in the RS dome light where you can add your footage and it renders as a background, but in this release they've removed it. Do you know how to display footage in the background now? (The C4D background object has never worked with Redshift)
good luck! I prefer 2 see all the commands/function, rather than search. however the ''search'' is better 4 the ''pro's''!! guess I'll read the ''book''! super video!
I don't think they will because they've got people paying for zBrush right now. I do think that suuuuuuurely they have to be updating Body Paint though?
First of all, thank you for these great breakdowns! Does anyone know if and how I could control the electric spline modifier with a field? Thanks in advance for any clues on this. :)
At 1:14:00 how did you make the render so fast? You kept calling it a viewport render and you rendered the pyro to the picture viewer and it rendered almost instantly. How did you do that?
It would be really handy to hover over a wire and get the name of what it's linked to... hover over the wire in your example and "Displacement" pops up. No guessing, memorizing, or traveling back to see what it is.
Hello does anyone know how i can generate multiple continous dynamic splines inside a geometry without them intersecting, sorta like making a ball of cables
Thank you very much for this incredible insight into the new features! Is there a way to hide the mirrored object inside the symmetry? It would be great to use this as a kind of super fast boole. :)
When I updated to 2023.2, I found that using the default scene became very laggy. For example, creating a new blank scene is noticeably slower than in 2023.1. Has anyone else experienced the same issue?
i find thicken to be kinda... clunky. starts with the naming, why not "bias" or "offset", but "position"? also, it wont work with splines, correct? weirdly, when going into "advanced" my mesh disappears. need to use "connect" beforehand. and when using symmetry, i get a polygon on the intersection plane, so my symmetrized object is not hollow... somehow all this feels a bit off from "production ready". I am sure theres checkboxes or workaround to fix that,
Awesome work as always! The GLTF redshift export looks very promising, but I can’t find any more info on it on the Maxon or Redshift pages. Do you know if there is a place where I can find the ins and outs of the changes made to the GLTF import/export?
Thanks for this very detailed video. But it's still a little worrying that 24 hours after this update, there are only 4 videos on youtube about it, two of which are in Japanese. C4D is losing more and more users or what?
I think its competing with blender which is free. Also doing C4D tutorials will get less views in general compared to blender because of userbase. The incentive is not there, also blender 3.5 came out yesterday with better features and free, look at the views those videos are getting.
19:30 The thicken object isn't in that menu you grabbed it from. It shows up in Commander. Do you happen to know where I can find it in the top menu so I can dock it for my startup layout?
noticed the same thing. also with the new symmetry. but when i changed the layout to standard... they are in the right place. so it seems i have to do new own layouts?
2023.2 installs on top of 2023.1 but doesn't overwrite modified layouts/plugins. If you've customized your UI/Layout in 2023.1 that will take priority over any changes Maxon has made to the layout (like adding Thicken). Try temporarily "trashing" your prefs folder (add an `x` in front of the folder name so C4D won't find it) and see if that fixes the issue.
Found the solution. You have to remove the shortcut from "Commander (Legacy)" and reassign it to Commander "Searches for tools, objects, assets". You do this in window > customization > command manager.

Great video! Any other artists out there feel their entire soul sucking away when building objects with nodes. I get that they are powerful, but also... it turns modeling into more of a pseudo-coding operation which feels way less creative and way more cerebral.
Thank you! Balloon is so awesome out of the box now! I have one question, do You have any idea about the bullet engine here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1QgBtxkrGVE.html ? Xpresso Dynamics Body State for every object?
yes, same here. also strange redraw problems. all up to date, win 10 pro & mac same behaviour. if i switch off linear mode in project settings, viewport normal again.

You meant last part compared to Geometry Nodes? Because for the first section of the video, Blender doesnt really have a lot of parametric control like C4D does. And Pyro effects in Blender are lackluster.
