Blame Tempe's leadership. They ignored Phoenix's interest in airport noise agreement they have with Tempe. Phx had to contact Tempe residents directly. Tempe leadership finally worked out an agreement with Phx, but then refused to document it as they'd previously agreed. Then, Tempe's leadership decided to "let the people decide" (as if that would outweigh its relationship & prior agreement with Phx). By the time of the election, it ALL sounded bad to the average person. All the slogans about "tax breaks for billionaires" rang true. Something smelled very wrong because of Tempe's leadership _constantly_ acting in bad faith. It didn't help that the Coyotes owner dismissed all these shenanigans, and called on voters to "stick it to Phx." He already has a bad rep with the city of Glendale. It was like everyone was seeing the same corruption arising in Tempe. If Tempe's leadership had conducted itself with integrity from the start, I'm sure voters would have approved. It smelled rotten because of how Tempe's leadership conducted itself. (The local pop media is fairly useless too. They're a baloney canon of low-quality information.).

Columbus can barely support hockey. I'm way more bothered that the Coyotes have been given permission to fail endlessly for close to 30 yrs, while Québec is beyond ready but without an NHL franchise. It is wrong to say that ice hockey can't be successful in Arizona. Las Vegas is in the desert, and yet their hockey team has been very successful over the past six years, and they won the Stanley Cup in 2023. The other four teams that advanced to the Stanley Cup semifinals or finals were from Texas, Florida, and North Carolina. The Coyotes organization has had it's fair share of screw ups in the last quarter century but if the voters would rather have a land fill that they will eventually have to pay to clean up instaed of a $2.1 Billion dollar sports and entertainment arena that's 90% privately funded, I think that says it all.
@markfuller
@markfuller 10 месяцев назад
_"if the voters would rather have a land fill that they will eventually have to pay to clean up"_ The problem was Tempe's leadership acting in bad faith with Phx & the agreement Tempe has to avert airport noise complaints. First: Tempe's leadership acted like there was no agreement to consider. This led to Phx contacting Tempe residents directly to make them aware of what was happening (possible ramifactions). This was the first whiff of "corruption." Second: Tempe's leadership met with Phx & reached an agreement. Phx dropped its concerns until Tempe's leadership renegged, refusing to document what they previously agreed to. The second whiff. Third: By the time of the election, supporters of the "district" were putting up signs saying "don't let Phx tell you what to do." The already compromised Coyotes owner was blaming everything on Phx. To many voters the "taxbreaks for millionaires" slogan was ringing true. Something sounded "off" about all of this. It could have been averted if Tempe's leadership had negotiated in good faith with all principles. It was like they were 100% opposed to that, which evoked images of the drama the Coyotes had in Glendale. I blame Tempe's leadership first, then the con-man Coyotes owner (he just wanted his deal. He didn't care how he got it.). I actually blame the local baloney-canon media who are more interested in appearance over substance.

The Coyotes have to compete for discretionary fan and corporate sponsorship incomes with the Suns, Cardinals and Diamondbacks. The Arizona Coyotes are 100% relocating. - The Arizona Coyotes have lost $115.2 million USD between 2013 and 2023 (according to Forbes Business of Hockey). That is more than any other team in the NHL over that same period. - The Arizona Coyotes DO NOT generate money for the league. - The Coyotes can't stay in Phoenix anymore because the footprint center converted to basketball exclusively. - The Arizona Coyotes were also sued by the city of Phoenix twice for interfering with zoning laws in accordance with planned flight paths. - The team was sued by city of Glendale for not paying taxes. - The team was rejected by the cities of Scottsdale AND Tempe. How many cities are left? Mesa? Muerello bought land in Reno, Nevada, but a second team in Nevada is absolutely laughable... Let's see. The Coyotes will play at Mullet Arena until 2023-2024 minimum. There is NO arena planned. There is NO city chosen. Yet....I heard the border of Scottsdale (and there are NO FANS in that area apparently LMFAO what a disaster) They still have to purchase the land... and then BREAK GROUND And then build a brand new arena from scratch, minimum 3 years construction (assuming there are NO delays). ClimatePledge Arena, T-Mobile, and Little Caesars all took between 2 and 4 years to complete....so if they BREAK GROUND IN JULY 2024...the ABSOLUTE soonest they would be ready is the 2026-27 season (without ANY delays)....so you would have to play in Mullet Arena for 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25,2026-27...and assuming there are NO delays, there are always delays with construction HAHAHAHA And that's if they don't get resoundingly rejected by Scottsdale, like the Tempe vote was. 2027 is the realistic soonest possible date for a new arena construction. Therefore... The Arizona Coyotes are 100% relocating.

Quebec City is the best bet just based on maximum revenues that any owner would receive. I have calculated that the Quebec team would generate in excess of $60 million extra per season vs remaining in the current arena in Arizona. If you add in extra money from souvenir sales, broadcast rights, advertising etc. the increased revenue would be enormous for a team in Quebec City.
