What's the best No-Age-Statement (NAS) Sherry Bomb Scotch Whisky? In this video I blind sample 5 of the best High-Strength NAS Sherry Bombs (*with no age statement on the bottle) to determine my favourite. Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 59, Arran The Bodega, Edradour Cask Strength 2006, Glenfarcals 105, and Macallan Classic Cut 2017.

RE: Edradour Cask Strength being NAS - I am aware there's a bottle-tag that includes barreling and bottling dates, cask number and ABV. The tag for my bottling is missing. Technically there's no statement of age on the bottle and therefore (in my opinion) I considered it NAS and included it in this video. There's other examples of NAS whiskies in which you can determine their age. The Arran (in this video) has the age listed on Arran's official website, but no official statement on the bottle itself.

I have the Aberlour A'bunadh batch 59 and 61 at the moment and they are both great. The consistency in the batches I've had is pretty good so there's no real need to chase them. The Glenfarclas is not my favourite and I haven't had the Macallan or the Edradour, but the Arran is a great value bottle at around £55 in the UK. Great show as always!.

What I enjoyed about this type of presentation (which you do paint an informative picture my friend) is that it gets me out of my comfort zone. As you pointed out, depending on your mood, what you ate, how well you slept etc your taste and preference will vary. Anyway, I might try the same flight, over two days. Nice tasting, yet to try the Arran or Edradour. Here in Japan the Glenfarclas and Aberlour (rhymes with 'flour' btw!) are easy to find and also very reasonably priced compared to the others reviewed here so I have lots of experience with those. Interestingly Scotch is about 20 to 30% cheaper here than back in its homeland due to lower taxes! I guess the old geezers that write the tax codes are whisky drinkers!

@@SippersSocialClub Edradour doesn't have a label on the decanter for two reasons: first, it is a single cask bottling so they have to put a new label every several houndreds of bottles and second, it would be an awfull shame if they put a label on this fancy decanter, wouldn't it. Hi Jeremy. Excellent collection of Sherry Bombs to recommend. (Not suitable for the Orthodox Jewish community though. However, Sherry/Port/Wine bombs matured in Kosher casks are becoming more and more available). Why do you say that they "lie" about the Cask Strength? Are you saying this because you are asking, how comes all the bottles within the same batch have the same ABV? Surely, each cask will have a different ABV? The answer is that the bottles do NOT say "Single Cask". If they were Single Cask then each bottle would state from which cask it came from and the abv at bottling of the spirit in the cask,. However these botles come from a batch of casks which are all vatted / married together to obtain a consistent flavour throughout the batch. The abv figure is the abv of the vatting of the entire batch! Regarding the Edradour 58.8% abv NAS. Your bottle is supposed to have a piece of card which is attached to the bottle by a chord and glued to a ribbon around he neck of the bottle. Yours is missing. I hope this has been helpful. Keep up the great job.
@SippersSocialClub
@SippersSocialClub 3 года назад
Yes, the 105's are vatted to 60abv. A method of blending that perhaps focuses too much on getting the ABV exact instead of a flavor profile. And yes, Ederdour should have a tag with the bottle information. Unfortunately it was missing with my bottle. I'm interested in learning more about Kosher casks. Can you elaborate more about them?

If you add water it's not cask strength, and if you blend to hit 60abv are you taking away from blending for best flavour?
