I am envious to say the least. That is a wonderful lath and well built. I just unloaded a new band saw from Grizzly. It too is massively heavy. I am just now trying to finish up the tuning of the saw platform and blade. I am giddy about using it. You have a great shop, and I am happy for you. Have fun.

That's a very nice piece of equipment you have there Linn , the machine lathe you have opted for will probably take care of almost everything that I can think of that would be considered household objects , I didn't know those machines were that heavy, good idea with the blocks picking it up . Look forward to seeing you in the next video.

Congrats, I have a G0800 and really like it, had it for about 3 years and turn something almost everyday. I selected mine because of the shape of the headstock. I felt like the square shape as you have would limit my ability to turn from the headstock end. it's all about what you get used to. Have fun with your little lathe, lol. Take care, Larry

Hi Darby, first I want to say I enjoy watching your videos, great information from the many years following you. My question is I was an avid wood turner for some years ago but had gotten away from it do to my wood shop at the time was very small 11’ by 11’. So I had to give it up for room, but now I have a bigger shop now and want to get back into wood turning. I then remembered when you did this video on your grizzly lathe. Now to the point since you have owned your grizzly lathe how has it been for you were there any issues. I am looking at a few lathe’s now laguna, powermatic, and grizzly G0766 trying to figure out which to get. I do like grizzly products which I have bought quite a few. Thank you again for your videos, great information.

A few years ago I bought a Grizzly 72 inch belt grinder, the knife maker model. I've been very pleased with it and found it to be good quality at a decent price point. The only anmnoying thing was the set up. Everything comes packed with heavy grease to prevent rust which was annoying to get rid of. The assembly was pretty straightforward but you definitely needed to read the manual.

Lin-- WTG Gal! Nice to see you move on this. I can not stress the best info' I was given is to "Go take a class in learning to use it-- safely." Well worth the money I paid. I learned a lot about shop safety and how to use the tools on the lathe properly. Especially if you think you're bitten by the bowl turning bug.
@BoeingVaporhead
@BoeingVaporhead 5 лет назад
Congratulations on the partnership and new tools! I quickly outgrew my HF mini lathe and have been debating the Revo. Turning became my passion and I think you're going to have a LOT of fun with that Grizzly. Particularly as you learn to use conventional gouges -- you're already a pro with other hand tools. Don't forget the wealth of knowledge available from Stuart Batty on Vemo; Mike Waldt; Tim Yoder; Brendan Stemp; et al on YT. Maybe you could bring Carl cross-country for another collab!
@daledavig4595
@daledavig4595 3 года назад
I'm struggling with the same decision about the REVO myself. I have always been a grizzly guy and I have admired the 766 for some time, but I have read a few reviews and watched some videos with complaints about turning it on and vibration issues at medium speeds (900-1200 mostly). That has me leaning toward the Laguna but I'd still really rather stay with Grizzly.
@25emann
@25emann 5 лет назад
Kudos Linn. Come a ways since you and Darwin were knocking stuff together in your backyard in Oregon. You have moved to Virginia, with a compound of workshops and a now walking rugrat. But the measure of your progress is your sponsors. I've not met Grizzly in Aust., but it looks the job. My 40 years on the tools tells me that the sexier the tools, the better they work. That lathe does substantial, layout, features and finish rather well. How many followers to get Festool on board? Quite thrilling to watch. Thankyou.

I hope you like it.. I have bought from grizzly since 1984.. great products.. 3 years ago I made my own lathe.. it is variable speed bowl lathe..weighs in at 450 pounds.. the inverter take single phase in and inverts out-triple phase.. triple phase can be tuned to variable speed.. single phase can not.. my lathe accepts up to 38 inches in diameter.. much fun..

@terrytenley9404
@terrytenley9404 4 года назад
My cost for my lathe about 700$. It’s just great..most expensive part was the inverter at 190$. But buying grizzly is smart.. 90% of all big woodworking tools are made in China...they are well made and their precision is beyond what powematic used to make here..now since 1988 most major manufacturers in the us have their tools made in China and then hang big prices on them., I love grizzly much..

Linn, I love your channel and Ive probably watched this unboxing video 10 times. I'm trying to decide between a Revo or the Grizzly G0766. I got gun shy a few weeks ago on the 766 because of reviews and videos that purport vibration issues and medium speeds. The DVR shuts it down almost immediately (from what ive heard in the complaints) when the vibration occurs. Have you had any issues with the 766? Thank you for any help and again, your channel is awesome.

A couple of weeks ago I took delivery of a Laguna REvo 24/36 which from the looks of yours is a comparable machine, with similar leg size, weight and casting, even the Bed Stops look the same. You can slide the power head all the way to the right and turn much larger diameter things like bowls and platters. You would just need a heavy stand for a tool rest. The way you folks handled the lathe to get the legs on is exactly how professional machinery and building movers accomplish the same thing when they need to raise an item. WELL DONE!

does the head unit just spin in place so you can turn a big bowl or do you have to take it off, turn it around and put it back?
@matthewsmith8573
@matthewsmith8573 4 года назад
It doesn't look like it'll spin (3:35 shows a tab sticking down into the space between the ways -- same as my Powermatic). I suppose you could take the head unit off and turn it around, but the recommended procedure is to remove the tail stock and slide the head unit down to that end. Tail stock isn't nearly as heavy as the head unit, and you don't have to worry about wiring, etc.

Very nice lathe. I always use a rawhide mallet to set the drive. I notice that your left hand is UP on the tool, rather than DOWN--not sure why but I'd think having your left hand down on top of the gouge is safer. I have a Conover (no longer in business) lathe with an 8-foot bed. My bed is two poplar planks, held by two heavy cast iron legs. The legs have a place to install a shelf, where you can put sand bags or store wood to gain extra weight and stability. The reverse switch on the DC motor is great when you are finishing up or polishing a project. Warning! Turning can be very addictive--you think a half hour passed but really it was 4 hours!
