Yes, it doesn't make sense, Whether you are pale or dark, your dark circles will still be visible, nothing to do with skin colour. Ignorance. That does sound racist, even if said in jest....btw, Chinese here. It's like saying I would switch to being Chinese, because I think slanty eyes are pretty. And FYI, "slanty" small eyes are only in some Chinese, and usually Mongolians. Not usu present in Southern Chinese.
@@ymhktraveland no btw. It kinda makes sense where hes coming from. If someone was beat u0 and had injuries, it will be more obvious in lighter skinned individuals... stop the coping. Your comparison to the epicanthic fold is also not applicable here.
Out where I live, there is actually a LOT of Indian/Chinese couples simply due to the fact that they all work in tech, and mingle with each other all the time. The funny thing is that the Chindian kids often end up looking Malay or Thai. haha
But the actual stats say otherwise 😂😂 intermingling doesn't mean people will magically like each other 😂😂 the most common local interracial combo is malay/indian. Stop coping
There is Chinese priviledge in Singapore for sure. Even jobs you apply says 'Mandarin speaking preferred' & most likely you won't even need to speak Mandarin in the job; like which madafaka can't speak English in this day and age. I need to commend the younger generation the Gen Z. They are more accepting & inclusive of minority races compared to the racists & bigots from my generation & before.
Accepting/inclusivity =/= liking by the way. No amount of inclusitivity will help that. "Regardless of race" also won't make someone suddenly find people they don't deem attractive as attractive...
Chinese made Singapore. Period! At least they didn't enslave any other race to serve their purpose unlike whites in America which they were building up their conquered piece of land which is today called the USA.
Harsh video man.. just remember white and black also have the same smelly armpit gene. If we swear a lot, we'll smell, no way around it. At least for office workers it's a moot point, just shave your armpit and use anti perspirant.
@@hannesRSA lol I don't smell at all. In fact I get compliments about how nice I smell sometimes....the problem is that people who only see race will buy into stereotypes and perpetuate the racism we see and then it becomes "dating preference" or whatever lol.

The 1st incident seeing it involved an MP the AGC literally went out of its way to declare there was "no racism involved" I think multiple police reports were filed? The 2nd incident one report was definitely filed and posted online in 2017 and its been 7 years now...

casual racism is not okay (THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM HAVING RACIAL PREFERENCES, LOL). Ultimately, it will affect the esteem/wellbeing of an individual. It's so sad that casual racism is STILL being passed down from one generation to another, and I'm GLAD that Singaporeans are actually speaking up about it and tackling it (and its definetly gotten better). To those indians watching this and getting depressed/upset, dont get upset
5:38 " I think it is easier if you take it not so serious lah. if you take it too seriously, it hurts you more than the other guy.". Well, you are OBVIOUSLY not a minority race and you would not KNOW what casual racism can do to your mental health, not to mention the lasting impacts it will have on the victim's mental health and self-esteem. Its like giving you a green card for casual racism/racism in general: By having this mentality, by making racist remarks (even if it is casual), ** you are strengthening the prejudice and discrimination a race is already facing. You are actually ENCOURAGING prejudice/discrimination towards the victim's race. Its freaking 2023, grow the hell up. We should all be educated enough to KNOW that it is not okay to do so??? Its like?? huh??? how dumb, uneducated and insensitive must you be to not realise this?
As an Indian Singaporean, I can corroborate this. I think it would have been a more holistic interview if you got more Indians and Malays interviewed. Great video overall! 🚀
There's nothing wrong about being honest with your thoughts. It's the beginning of acknowledging that in reality, there isn't such thing as equal rights and being viewed as equals. Even within the race or ethnicity itself, people can discriminate. Eg. some local Chinese do discriminate against Mainland Chinese, because they are seen as uncultured, show-off, poor etc and this was worse in the past. Personally as a Chinese Singaporean, I probably won't want to be a different race but I do hope to be richer (who wouldn't)? Not because of so-called Chinese privilege if there is, it's not significant. It's important that whatever race you are born into, you have to be comfortable in your own skin, so that you can thrive and not be brought down by despising your own. You might not believe me but there was once an Indian uncle he told me he doesn't trust the Indian migrant workers doing upgrading works in his unit, because THEY ARE INDIANS. I was, to put it, strangely shocked by his remarks. In In any country, the majority will inadvertently have some kind of privilege, whether be it in terms of language facility, employment opportunities etc. In M'sia, for instance, the best opportunities are reserved for the Bumiputeras, even if you as a Chinese, has performed much better academically. I have neither preference nor the desire to date or be a certain race, but that doesn't mean I don't hold a certain stereotype about a certain race, which is different from being a racist. Even for someone who is racist, before condemning the person, could that be some backstory to that attitude, some kinda bad experience he/she encountered? You start from understanding it, then addressing it. Sweeping everything sensitive under the carpet only mean it become undercurrents, not trying to understand the situation. So I applaud this Q & A , esp in Singapore where anything about race has become something not to be broached, when it should be discussed in a mature way even if it's controversial. Of course, there will always be some factions of society that seek to stir displeasure, hatred and divisiveness, and not out of addressing an issue but out of malice to create chaos and probably serve his own purpose, whatever it may be. In this interview, I feel that other than the Bengali girl and one other Chinese guy who are more fluent, more articulate in their responses, the rest aren't very lucid in their responses or why they chose to think in a certain way.
They didn't explain more because their reasoning was simple, they didn't find those outside their race more attractive and enough to go out of their way to date them
Bruh.. when you say mentality.. you have to be specific that it is POSITIVE mentality.. Cuz if every1 has the same NEGATIVE mentality its not full of love and empathy 🙃
I know of a indian foreigner commented saying the ancestors of singaporean indians are the lower caste thats why they migrate. Shocking that such mentality exists in such a modern age
Nah it’s not that. I get where you’re coming from coz I’ve faced this myself. So as a Singaporean Indian myself I can tell u this. To an Indian foreigner, they see India as the best country or rather a great country . To them India is everything, I mean it’s literally in one of their patriotic songs. It starts off by saying ‘India is better than the entire world’ So when you tell them that your ancestors came over to Singapore, they can’t take it. It hurts their ego, their pride, coz their ancestors didn’t have the opportunity or privilege to migrate. While they were stuck there being brainwashed, so they come up with all this kinda comments. Oh well, such mentality hence look at how stagnant the country has been for decades while even China has been progressing
@V_d19 yo your ancestors had to come because of slave work most Indians who so called migrated were brought to Singapore by the British or escape harsh mistreatment of Indians by the independent provinces in India
@@raghavnamasivayam8706 ok my friend , I mean whatever makes you happy even if it means consoling yourself with lies. Sorry my ancestors were ‘slaves’, those same ‘slaves’ granted me an opportunity to grow up in a country where I’m glad I dont have a third world mentality and for that I’m truly grateful. For a country , racism aside, that is safe sound and secure and where women can roam safe and freely in the streets and are not objectified or condemn for what they wear ❤️
@@Sensational_one well it wasn't meant to offend you but you seem to be arrogant most Indians so called migrated here for those reasons and it ain't lies singaporeans usually don't know much about history but yeah a superficial county with superficial people how is being treated in a racist way in your own country
"Its Racism until its a Personal Preference" (i.e., you wont date a certain race because of personal preference) A personal preference is still racism.

As an Indian I have a qn for all the non-Indians....what is the odour that coming from us that you don't like ? cuz everybody says they love Indian food and curry but when we eat it you guys say its filthy. Or maybe if its the sweat don't you think everybody also sweats ? like c'mon SG is the last place for sweaty ppl to be cuz you can start sweating in less than 5 mins of walking under the sun. I understand there are some Indians who are indeed like that but that is becuz they are from mainland India and have been living a low standard of life. So instead of picking at us why not take pity and let go. Life would be so smooth. Even if I wasn't Indian I don't think I could make fun of someone for such cheap attributes like race, etc.
People of the non-East Asian lineage (e.g. Caucasians, middle easterners, Indians etc.) tend to have stronger body odor, this is especially noticeable during sports classes when everyone starts sweating hard. Science has an explanation for this if you Google about it, it's something to do with the sweat gland receptor which the East Asian types have less of, or something, can't remember this off the top of my head, or just ask ChatGPT lol Personally, I don't have any issues with indians whatsoever though. A lot of these "racism" tends from racial ignorance rather than racial hatred. There is a difference. The kind of racism that you see in western countries, that stems from racial hatred.

It’s not about whether someone is able to take a joke or not. It depends on how the jokes are said and by who. If someone can dish it out but when you fire back they can’t take it, that says alot about them. Younger generation pretending that only old aunties are racist. That’s not honest.
As a half indian myself, although i don’t have that “smell” i myself also don’t like the smell. I once went to a shop ran by indians and their hair shampoo smell exactly like that, shit was wild. Ayy but the food bussin tho
Racism exist everywhere & of individuals. Good thing about Singapore is her leaders that oppose racism by emphasising unity. Therefore , racism will not be a big problem here.
Man I didn’t want to comment on the video but then I feel like I have to. As an Indian who is dating a Chinese myself, well I do get a lot of stares from old uncles and aunties that I do not know. Funny thing is I’m happily accepted by my partner’s family so yea don’t know what cultural difference some of them are talking about unless of coz your family are racist , shallow minded individuals (based on past experiences, from ex dates). I feel that when you truly are happy with someone , race or culture shouldn’t be an issue. Your family should be happy for you that you’re happy. To any of my Indian bros who are dating a Chinese , let me teach you a phrase that I usually use when someone tries to give u that stare or be racist just coz you’re dating a Chinese, it’s ’Jing di Zhi wa’, basically tell them don’t be a frog under the well. Lastly about the whole which race to swap to, that girl who gave that remark about swapping to an Indian to hide dark circles , lol that’s one hell of a bad joke. Just so you know not all Indians are dark and not all Indians in Singapore speak Tamil. That’s something I realise a lot of people in Singapore don’t know, hence that frog in the well comment applies to even our younger generations. To that girl, I’m personally a North Indian and I’m fairer than you. 😂 And to those who were talking about Chinese privileges in Singapore well yea, as someone who is well travelled myself, those same Chinese privileges don’t extend beyond Singapore waters. It’s sad when I’m walking around in Europe/ USA or even Aus and I see my Chinese friends getting racially abused instead. Guess they then know how it feels like for the Indians in Singapore. ‘stopasianhate’ , wonder where that came from
Indians get racially abused in the west too lol, in some ways worse than east asians 😂😂😂 what are you talking about trying to imply chinese people are clueless about what it feels to be discriminated against 😂😂😂 why need use the west, malaysia is good enough 😂😂😂 the fact singapore even exists is the result of umno discriminating against the chinese majority here and pap 😂😂
How come not everyone say they want to swap race to become blond hair blue eye Caucasian gods and goddess? Thought Singaporeans especially younger gen can't wait to worship the almighty white men and women? Lol maybe those interviewed in the video are not locals

In any country, the majority race or ethnicity is always shown to be more racist towards other minorities. Turn the tables around and go to Malaysia or Indonesia. The Malays There are pretty racist towards Chinese people. Its the same everywhere. Its jus a stroke of luck whether your ethnicity is the majority in a certain setting.
Honestly I'm not saying all Chinese ah but alot of them like to talk bad about malay behind their back but act nice infront of them sometimes Indian too but mostly malay always get shit on for no reason.

@@cvpiguy You should be more specific yourself coming up with broad statements impossible to back up like "malays get shit on for no reason" define shit on and "no reason". Also, i just said chinese are less aggressive not more aggressive. Just for a quick example, malaysia is not only more dangerous but a more violent society in general. Ain't even trying to say malays are aggressive themselves but how can you call Singapore (a mostly chinese country) aggressive when it's literally top 3 safest country on earth while being the most densely populated (aka way more interactions between people in close proximity)? Who are “the Chinese”? Just because there is a country with more than a billion people that contains a large amount of people of that “race” or Han Chinese specifically, does not correlate to anything the Chinese at knows what part of the world does. I myself am Malay from Singapore and me and our brothers of Indian and Chinese descent know we should not slander people when it comes to professional talks. The “racism” you see here is just local culture that is comparable to that of those from any other country in the world; we can use Bolivia (since I’ve lived there for 8 years) as an example as Bolivians like many others in the world, also see their largely multicultural peoples and culture the way Singaporeans do. Goes to show it’s nothing special and casual racism is common and is needed for a society to function. Heard from a cousin studying in France that most of western parts of Europe is already a mess due to how afraid the average person is the even say anything remotely offensive to a minority group.
Declining birth rate, and emigration etc. How TF do Singapore still remained a Chinese majority nation? Always at 75%. Malays always at 15% despite higher birth rate and larrge families. Is it a policy to engineer Singapore to always be a Chinese majority nation?
