Honestly, I don't even think we can even say teachers are "Under Appreciated" because at this point as someone with two parents and a sister who were or are teachers it's more like "Active Abuse and Open Hostility"

Small point of correction, in WWI the US used the 1906 Springfield bolt action rifle. The M1 Garand was WWII.

When Skallagrim says the flint swords could have been a art piece, I suddenly had an image of some young teenage nord, posing in the woods behind his house, with the equivalent of a medieval mall ninja flint sword, think he looks all bad ass.

As a proud owner of a dussack that I personally forged, I will say, it’s like the AK-47 of swords. It’s a piece of crap, but when you need a sword, it is a sword.

Flint as a standalone material definitely is what I would consider a textbook "Terrible" sword material. However, it makes great edges. It's the main reason so many ancient cultures used them in conjunction with wooden or bone handles as sharp bits that stick out. Take the Aztec cultures Macuahuitl "sword." (in reality it's more like a club with nano razor edge sharp obsidian pieces glued to it.) Against bare flesh flint or obsidian blades perform excellently, but even a basic level of protection would shatter them like the glass and brittle stone they are. (though I guess the possibility of obsidian or flint shards falling into your enemies sandals or shoes would be an amazing debuff)

I'm not American, but the Heckler & Koch G3 used by the Estonian Defense Forces was pretty disliked, and a lot of people had grievances with it. Most preferred the old IMI Galil (an AK-type gun made in Israel in 5.56) or now the new gun R-20 "Rahe" (which is kind of like an M4). The G3 was heavy, a lot more annoying to clean, and was a lot more prone to jams than the other two guns. It held 20 rounds in a large box mag that was uncomfortable to operate with, and the recoil was such that any full-auto burst was pointless, so everyone was just told to fire single shots with it (7.62). The forward bolt or whatever was uncomfortable to operate when prone. I think it’s most likely a good gun, but the comfort factor of the two lighter guns we had to compare it to made it stick out in my mind as being "bad."

People dog on teachers because they're under the impression students aren't learning

I don’t really have a dog in this fight because I don’t train with swords. I have trained with spears though. That said, I think the best/worst sword is too complex to answer given the different battlefields, armor, etc that may go into it. I don’t know if this counts but a bayonet may count as a sword. I’d call that the best if only because it can be used as a spear and is on the end of a rifle.

11:20 Yeah, there's a pretty neat progression in terms of hilt construction/hand protection as time goes on (at least in terms of European swords, I'm not all that knowledgeable on other regions). Most early swords have simple hilts with little to no hand protection, being primarily intended for use with shields, until around the 700s when you start to see primitive, short crossguards become more commonplace. Then as metallurgy advances and new methods of shaping metal are discovered and perfected (and changes simultaneously happen with how and by whom swords are being used), you gradually start to see longer crossguards, occasionally with curved or angled quillons, and later also additional protective bits such as side rings and knuckle bows. Eventually as steel and smithing progress, and simultaneously shields lose some of their prevalence (and it also becomes more common for civilians to carry swords for self defence and duelling), that evolution culminates in sideswords/rapiers/basket hilts where the hand is almost completely protected. All in all cool video, swords are fun.

Are we talking in modern context with modern materials or should we factor in the original materials? Don't think the bronze swords of antiquatie would hold up against medieval steel.

I would say the cheating answer would be "mall ninja" shit! Made to look "cool" and "dangerous" but not really understanding ergonomics or functionality also cutting corners where ever it isn't gonna show (looking at you rattail tangs).
