I purchased a TOPDON Phoenix Plus less than a year ago and have 3 question to ask now, but am formulating a 4th and need more time to complete my research before finishing and submitting it. 1) Where are the video or written tutorials that provide instruction and/or demonstrate the TOPDON diagnostic tools functions/capabilities? The included manual is limited in coverage. 2) If there isn't, there should be a database that shows what functions work on each vehicle, so that a device owner knows which device meets there needs best or so they know what their device can and cannot do for their vehicle. Something has to exist somewhere since you can provide this information if given certain information about the vehicle. I can't imagine it being calculated or determined each time for each specific inquiry. 3) Do you do trade-ins, rather Trade-ups if a unit is fairly new (6 mos to 1 year) and very gently and very infrequently (zero damage or wear) used for a high level device?

If you haven't discovered it, you might gain some good knowledge from the channel Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics. The presenter, Ivan, is an excellent diagnostician, and usually uses the Thinktool Pros, which appears to be essentially the same unit, but in a red case.

I bought the Topdon 800bt just because it comes with lifetime updates. I would of bought the Phoenix Plus for bi-directional but the updates are only good for two years. I don't need bi-directional as often as most would think, having the lifetime updates is more important to me. Just my 2 cents.

1, Yes, ArtiDiag800BT is free to update, but does not support actuation testing. 2, Phoenix Plus not only supports actuation testing, but also more other functions such as topology map, full system-wide full functionality. This includes online coding of VAG models, calibration and matching of some sensor replacements, as well as relatively simple ECU computer board replacement and matching for some electronic control systems (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford, Mazda, Jeep, etc.), but of course the premise is mostly based on the old modules still being able to communicate. 3, the role of the actuation test is mainly intuitive judgment, the fault associated with the system actuator can normally receive the action instructions issued by the ECU, and then locate the root cause of the problem, the application of more modules is the engine, BCM, is very practical, when it is needed. @@jaimeb4774 I know it has been a year, but others may find this a value. As I have read and been told, after the updates end, the functionality of the device with stay exactly as it was at the time it received its last updates. It will not be able to perform the functions that are included within the missed future updates, including bug fixes for existing vehicle versions and no newly manufactured vehicles. As long as you don't have a bug with one of the vehicle software versions that needs fixed and don't need to diagnose a newer vehicle that would only be in post 2-year free updates then the way you use your device is not impacted at all. If I'm incorrect, and I believed I was less than 95-99% correct I wouldn't have spent the time to write this reply, then hopefully TOPDON pays enough attention or has someone tasked with checking the comments and not only correct me but also put the correct information to answer for any poor soul that may have the same question that you had. One year left on your free updates . Get them up to the very last day!!!

Hello, Phoenix Plus has a handle on the back, and it supports some vehicles' key coding functions. Compared with Phoenix pro, it has better hardware configuration, with 4G/64G capacity, android10.0 system. It supports 41 service functions while Phoenix Pro supports 33. but it doesn't do ECU programming while Phoenix Pro supports ecu programming. For add-on tools, Phoenix Plus supports ADAS, T-ninja Box, BTMobile Pros battery tester,TC001 thermal imager, ossilloscope. Phoenix Pro supports ADAS, T-ninja Box, BTMobile Pros battery tester.

The update covers two aspects: 1. Fix device software bugs 2. Support the increase of vehicle models. If you don't update, you can still use it as usual.

@@sheerwillsurvival2064 The Chrysler brand vehicle models after 2018 have FCA, we need the fca account to read/clear codes, read data stream, active test and other special functions, without the account we can only read fault codes and version information. Besides, fca account need to bought from third-party (usually they are Model manufacturer authorization) by yourself. If you don't have fca account, you will need a 12+8pin special connector to connect to the vehicle security gateway interface, and in this way the instrument panel may need to be disassembled fyi. you can click the link to get more info about FCA: webapp.autoauth.com

TopDon -- My TopDon Pheonix Plus has chronic problems failing the update downloads. No problem with the wifi connection: Chome can play RU-vid just fine. But the downloads fail and have to be restarted hundreds and hundreds of times just trying to carry out the download of one set of updates. Even if I select a single file to update of less than 4MB, I will have to restart it a dozen times. Please either fix your download servers, or fix the download software so that it tolerates a mmmuuuuuuccccchhhhh longer timeout and restart itself.

That is a surprise to me. As long as I have a strong wifi signal (within 15-20 feet of my router) every update has been screaming fast, including being in my basement, except one when I was out in the back of my detached garage (probably a good 100-125 feet from the router which I fixed by extending my network). I'm surprised that they did NOT respond to you in some manner at all. At least an acknowledgement, but no advice or help looks bad for them on this forum that is used by many many people researching and looking for answers to questions and problems. You obviously were and so am I. You received no help and I'm looking for tutorials that actually give at least a little instruction or explanation of about the devices functions and how they work and TOPDON has NONE that I have found yet. Maybe customer satisfaction isn't as important as it used to be. Hopefully you were able to figure it out. OH, not sure what your phone and cellular providers capabilities are but I did use my phone as a hotspot in the garage a couple times and the downloads were pretty fast.

@@kevinherron8724 OK, a minor update. Subsequent to this post I did contact Topdon's online help, and they responded. I don't know what they might have changed at their end, or in tablet firmware updates, but right after their response, downloads started working more smoothly. For a while there was smooth sailing, Then it started to fail repeatedly again, but at some point it would at least restart the downloads automatically. Ultimately my initial two-year update subscription expired. I don't have an immediate need to update (no new vehicles), but when I looked in to a subscription update I could not figure out how to do it economically. The topdon site wants $545/yr, which, for 2 years, is more than I paid for the tablet, and more than I could pay for a second scanner with 2 years of updates. So a bit ridiculous.

Please add the disable feature on American cars to disable that Start / Stop . It destroys the Starter on the cars.. Everyone hates this feature and only Diagnostics HP tuner can disable it for now.....

Hi , I purchased a new Topdon Phoenix Plus in a sealed box from a wholesaler in Australia via Ebay ,I understand this comes with 2 years free updates. Do i need to continue to pay a subscription after this 2 years , and if so will i be able to use it still if i choose not to pay for any further updates as its only for private use on my 3 cars and a dont see a 2021 or newer vehicle in my future Thanks

Hello sir, when the free update period expiredd, you can't continue to update the software without paid subscription feee, you can't do online functions (like online coding, FCA functions, etc.), but you can use basic diagnostic functions and special functions.

As a DIYer I'm interested in buying the Topdon plus or Elite. I knew that it is not necessary to buy the updates, which is important for me as a none professional. But what if I do not pay the updates for let say a couple of years and then I want to update my scantool. Will I pay for the whole skipped years or will it be a price for one update?
