david thewlis in this season was the run away star for me. he steals every scene. he's so gross, and cruel and just odd, but i love his little soliloquies and of course his nasty teeth and bulimea leave a lasting impression
What? Where did you get that idea from? You’re way off. He obviously has bulimia and his teeth are rotten from the bile eating away at the enamel. Get with the program, dude smh
I know you say Varga doesn't seem like the type to be anxious about his OWN bodyweight, but I did recall a scene where (I think) he's talking to Sy after seeing Sy's wife, & he has a brief anti-Semitic, sexist rant about fat Jewish women, so he's very controlling over the bodies of others. It seemed like another reflection of that possessive greed of the super rich, wanting to pull the ladder up after themselves to make it harder for anyone else to profit.
For me, the biggest difference between Malvo & Varga is the type of predator each is. Someone pointed out that we rarely see Malvo eat anything but vegetables, never meat. He only eats what he hunts, like animals do. Varga gorges himself purely because he can and he wants to. Watching him shovel food in his disgusting mouth, he takes no pleasure, savors none of the taste or flavor, it's just about the consumption for him. One lives for the hunt, one lives for the feast. That said, they will both f*** up your life for the heck of it.
I assumed he’s bulimia had something to do with how he uses poison in tea. Like he’s practicing to throw up poison he takes when tricking people to also drink it
I dont think at all that Varga is one of the super rich, all things point to him being just an agent for putin or some such, likely ex-Stasi, a mere pawn in the big game. Hence the greed and gluttony, the rest of the time he is/has to be a grey mouse. An extremely nasty one, but in the end still a mouse.
I was fascinated with those teeth, when watching this when it was first out. Then, I just HAD to Google it... because I thought, no way an actor would have teeth that bad. Then, I enjoyed it even more that I knew it was done deliberately to add character to Varga. They're done so well, we've all seen similar people like this in real life.
Nobody that I know has brought this up. But Varga clearly works for somebody else. He is exactly what he says Emit will become. He is a "billionaire," but only on paper. His gorging on food suggests he was once overweight. The man who is oppressing him probably forces Varga to barf up his food. The man who owns a guy like Varga and employs him for the reasons he does is clearly a sadistic man. He probably makes Varga suffer as much as Varga is ordered to make others suffer. Which begs the question. Who does Varga work for?
I found Varga to be a mythical character. Not of this world. Not in a religious sense necessarily, just something else. Brilliantly played and an a captivating character.
Varga is greed personified, weaponized. He will have his cake and eat it - and then vomit it out because he doesn't need it. It's a luxury to him. "All that exists without my knowledge, exists without my consent" - Judge Holden, Blood Meridian.
Season 4 is an oddity. If I started by explaining the great things about, you'd probably say it's an underrated gem, if I listed the bad parts, you'd probably say it's reputation as the black sheep of the series is earned. It has pacing issues and some very miscast and underdeveloped characters, but is overall as entertaining and interesting to think about as the previous seasons IMO.
@@KB-313 Him and Chris Rock are the big ones, I think CineRanter pointed it out in his review. Personally they didn't bother me that much, since Fargo is already kind of a heightened reality, but Rock and Schwartzman don't really disappear into their roles like the leads from previous seasons. My big issue was with the lesbian outlaws, who are written as a lot more stupid and impulsive than they actually act.
It’s pronounced “in-say-she-ah-bull”, not “in-sat-eeh-ah-bull”. The vomitorium in Roman coliseums had nothing at all to do with people puking after feasts in order to relieve themselves or eat more. It’s a complete myth based on a misunderstanding.
I think his eating habit is representative of how the rich gourge themselves on smaller people even when they already have there fill. As I’m listening to the video I see you already came to that conclusion lol
I'm a serious nail biter myself, so I think he like me enjoys the pain of picking. The pain of pucking at his gums must be especially agonizing. I also pick at wounds and cause them not to normally heal. Vomiting is also painful. I'm also obese, so i painfully hold in food from excessive eating. Pain is pleasure to some, in my case it's addictive stimulation. Gluttony and greed are so so similar.
