Meet the emiyas the most strange family in the world and afterlife

Reminder Assassin Emiya never got together with Iri or had Illya or raised Shirou so probably never met Taiga. Everyone is literally strangers to him and they're treating him like the Kiritsugu they know. Archer is being the most professional in this situation.

It seems some people, even the uploader don't quite understand this scene. So then, many people have already done it in the comments, but, here I go. To explain better, Assassin EMIYA is not the Kiritsugu from Fate/Zero. He's from a different timeline, one where the Einzberns never hired him to participate in the 4th Holy Grail War. As such, he never met Iri, never conceived Illya and never met Taiga and Shirou. He spent his entire life being just the Magus Killer and towards the end of his life (ironically mirroring EMIYA Archer) he made a pact with Alaya and became a Counter Guardian. Thus his different appearence. Now, opposite to that, Caster Iri _IS_ somehow our dear Irisviel from Fate/Zero, or at least she has all her memories and experiences. Which is why it feels so hard for her to interact with both Assassin EMIYA and Prisma Illya, she naturally feels a connection to them but must always remember that those are not her family. That's not her Kiritsugu and that's not her Illya, which pains her a lot. Nevertheless, Iri just couldn't help but worry about EMIYA being lonely, even though that's what he actually prefers. (bad boy! >:x) So she went out of her way to see if he was doing alright. And Jaguar Warrior, being Taiga, tagged along! XD Being an Assassin, however, EMIYA quickly realized those two were trailing him and also deduced *why* they were trailing him, so he started to fake that he was getting along with other Servants, to see if that would make those two stop following him. I find it deliciously ironic that he went for the people that the Fate/Zero version of Kiritsugu ended up meeting at one point in his life! XD First it was Archer EMIYA, Kiritsugu's adopted son Shirou. Then it was Artoria, the Saber Servant whom Kiritsugu did not get along with. Then Diarmuid, the Lancer Servant whose horrible demise was orchestrated by him. Then El-Melloi II, prieviously another Master in the 4th HG War just like Kiritsugu (also someone he talked to through a phone). It's like the messed up timelines were throwing a few of Fate/Zero Kiritsugu's "records" into this Counter Guardian version due to them both "being the same person" (similar deal between Archer and Shirou), but it's so subconcious that even EMIYA doesn't seem to notice. XP (or if he does, he masks it really well) I'm honestly just glad that EMIYA was cordial enough with Iri, as best as he could. He could've been cruel, outright angry given his annoyance, but you can see his expressions shift and him calm down. For a second, he almost seemed at a loss for what to really say. Guess deep down he doesn't want to hurt Iri that much, even when he thinks telling her the harsh truth is the best way. "Please get out... A day may come when the two of us speak... but it is not today, Irisviel von Einzbern." Unlike everyone else in the comments, I think this Interlude ends with a pretty hopeful tone. It is sad, but it also has a chance of growing into something else in the future. Notice how the usually stoic or emotionless EMIYA is pretty much smiling at the end of this Interlude. Makes me wonder what exactly he meant by "one formidable opponent". ;)

If anyone thinks this is a little depressing, there's a Summer event mission where Iri, Ilya, and Kuro/Chloe are on a bit of a shopping spree or something and Kiritsugu is tailing them to keep them safe. I saw it in the JP version so I don't know the exact context but that's what it looked like to me seeing as Kerry was the support servant for that particular mission.

this is the kiritsugu emiya that never contracted with the einzberns for the fourth war. he proceeded his life as a hired hand before contracting himself as a counter guardian with Alaya. Ironic how his fate is parallel to that of Archer Emiya... But yes, this kiritsugu never met Irisviel, never became a master to Saber Artoria, never had Illya and never adopted Taiga or Shirou... The only 3 women important to this kiritsugu were Shirley, Natalia and Maiya, and i dont think he even remembers them anymore... It is sad to see Iris standing infront of the man that is not her husband. She has memories of being together with him, but this kiritsugu is not her kiritsugu.

Short story: - Iris want to hang out with Chloe,Illya (eating, taking picture with them) since it summer festival - Some male servant ask Iris to cosplay because it festival (because iris has big ...) - Kiritsugu just straight up take them out with flash bang - Iris,chloe,illya continue have fun in festival without knowing Kiritsugu secretly bodyguard

"Please get out. A day may come when the two of us speak...but it is not today, Irisviel von Einzbern." That's...huh. That's actually a hell of a lot more optimistic an ending to this interaction than I was expecting. Yeah, it ends with Iri leaving in tears and Kiritsugu still in his self-imposed isolation, but this is a version of him that never got hired by the Einzberns and thus has absolutely no connection to her, Illya, Taiga, or Shirou/EMIYA. The first step in establishing _any_ kind of connection with this Kiritsugu pretty much had to be accepting that he is not _their_ Kiritsugu, and that was bound to be painful for people who had such a personal connection to him. And I know he's a hell of a lot more set in his ways than F/Z!Kiritsugu because of a life of isolation and subsequent career as a Counter Guardian, but F/Z!Kiritsugu was still in full 'Magus Killer' mode when he fell in love with Irisviel, and that was knowing full-well that he'd be facilitating her death in pursuit of his dream. But, the same cursed existence as a Counter Guardian is probably the thing that holds the most hope for something resembling a happy ending. The reason why CGs are so inherently tragic is because no matter how far separated they are from their mortal lives, they can't completely shed their humanity. In other words, there's an Irisviel-shaped crack somewhere in this Kiritsugu's armor. It's obstructed by 'Magus Killer raised by a factor of Counter Guardian' levels of blockage, but that's just an extra-strength version of F/Z!Kiritsugu's barriers. So hey, who knows? This family's internal dynamics are already completely insane, and sometimes the good things in life can sneak up on you.

I mean, as sad as this all is, there is a small bit of hope that despite not being the Kiritsugu we know and love, I'm pretty sure in his source material or bond lines it's mentioned that he still feels drawn to the EMIYA family inexplicably and feels thems complicated emotions, so if there's ever a further interlude ( can magecraft become magus killer with 3 turn class advantage against casters pls DW) maybe they can all not be angsty

When I saw that Emiya(Assassin) calls the other Servants as mass murderers, I couldn't help but to note at how hypocrite he sounded when in reality he's also one of those 'mass murderers' as he comes up with the lame excuse of killing some to save more

Why doesn't Illya recognize Irisviel? She is still her biological mother! It might be HER Irisviel, but they still should have some things to talk about.
