Do I think pugs are adorable? Yes. Do I think the way pugs were in the past were also adorable? Yes! Would I rather have a healthy, happy dog than a more adorable yet sicker dog who can't breathe? Yes!
exactly, i have my pug and this issue has be on my mind since before i got him , i have wanted one since meeting a family friends pug as a child and its not cuz they are just so cute and crap its cuz i love their personality's and i just want my dog to be healthy , i dont care what he looks like , just as long as he is the great character that he is , he isnt breed standard and is not "kennel club registered" and i could care less hes out running around in the mud living as a farm pug -good video xD
Though I do hate those who think pugs should stop existing to their medical problems We don't kill people for having medical problems it's the people who breed these animals not considering their health
The most wholesome dog show I've seen was this sporting even where the dogs of all breeds do tricks and sees who can go noom the fastest. I like those ones
Yeah, dog shows suck. I was introduced to them by my late dog's breeders, who were kind of elitists and very much the "dog show"-type people. I hated it, my dog hated it and we only went a few times. The surroundings there are really stressful and breeders can be really mean to each other. I didn't witness anything other than gossiping, but that was enough for me. Thankfully, my next dog will be a resque, so I won't be able to attend even if I wanted to. We might attend a match show just for fun, but those tend to be much more relaxed anyway. They're all for fun or charity. I'm hoping to find a hobby my future dog will like, and maybe we'll be good enough to compete as well.
Buying a dog or an animal because it's popular or "cute" annoys the fuck outta me; someone I worked with is willing to TO DROP 10,000 (That's 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS) USD ON A FUCKING PUG. It's a "Popular blue fawn color" So I can seel the babies for more. Not to mention the untrained poorly controlled and health riddled animals you have because "They're popular" once youre are done with them they're gonna sit somewhere an rot because it's no "New" or "Popular" which causes more suffering!
The most wholesome one I’ve seen was a girl on Britain’s Got Talent who did a dance routine WITH her dog, to the James Bond theme song. The best part is how much fun they both seemed to be having, and how generally happy the dog seemed to be, licking his owners face in the interview, wagging his tail during the routine, big doggy smile on his face when it was over like he KNOWS the cheering means he did a good job because he’s a good boy. It’s on RU-vid still, and honestly 10/10 would recommend
So, we learned that incest doesn't create superior offspring after the monarchs and royals of history... And yet, some humans of the modern day refuse to apply that same logic to interbreeding dogs?
Some humans refuse to apply that knowledge to their own species. Mind you, this is the same species that gained access to CRISPR and CAS9 about a decade ago after successfully mapping their own genome the decade prior. I'd pray for our species if i'd thought anyone would've answered it.
@@eugeniolejarza9702 they have to share close blood. Siblings, cousins, a brother or mother, sister or father. When you breed incest, recessive genes appear that cause horrible mutations (any defects that are affected by the same blood will definitely be passed down to the new pups). Breeding the same dog breed but no where near related should be fine, but mongrels are the healthiest dogs. Pedigrees are badly bred anyway. So it probably doesn't matter even if you do breed outside of blood. Adopt don't shop kids. 🙆 The only way we can get rid of these kind of breeders is by not giving them money.
Then you'd love my Bella, she's a mini schnauzer mix and is a good digger (she also keeps burrowing critters out of the garden). Her only trait that really wouldn't benefit in the wild is her tail which is nubby but other than that she greatly resembles the healthy ancestors of the breed
The dogs were perfectly fine before, they were cute and most importantly healthy. People just need to make everything as cute as they can be, even if it causes pain-
I blame Dog Shows. They always reproducing this bullshit our of the expense of dogs in general. Like come one a German Shepherd should NEVER have a sloped ridge back.
I cannot begin to express how much I support this. I'm a dog groomer, and it's heartbreaking the sheer amount of pugs I've seen come in with eyes missing. Either from birth defects or injury from them popping out of their sockets. It's not like pugs, bulldogs, and the like weren't already cute back when they still had sensible proportions and healthier snouts.
@@TallicaMan1986 Distressingly, yes. One of the consequences of flattening their faces is the shrinking of the orbit. There's just less physically keeping their eyeballs in their skulls, and that means their eyes are at far greater risk than dogs with longer, more safely proportioned skulls.
Cobalt360Degrees yeh i understand the science after reading into it a bit more but, still. Adorable little creatures running around then their eyeballs pop out of them cute little eye sockets is tragic and comedic at the same time.
my brother's bf has a pug and he really cares for it, but every time i see his dog struggling to breathe i get sad remembering how much of an error society is
I am moved to tears by these kind of dogs. Do people breed dwarfism in to kids because that's cute? Watching a dog unnecessarily struggle isn't cute it's nauseating
Remember that scene in Deadpool where Deadpool was put into a chamber where he could hardly breath, so he would mutate? Pugs feel like Deadpool in that chamber 24/7
Send dog pics I have a pet pug. I didn’t choose the breed of her but picked her up at the shelter. Her former owners didn’t want her because she was born with awful conditions due to pedigree breeding. My family pays high medical bills to try and give her a semi comfortable life but she experiences nothing like what a healthy mutt would get. No pugs should not exist. They didn’t ask to look this way or be born this way and you are one of the people contributing to this issue and making sure pugs continue to be bred. So if you don’t mind, kindly fuck off.
My chihuahua-mutt is a million times cuter with her long legs and weird howl than any pug sorry not sorry. ^ This isn't a diss towards these kinds of dogs btw. I used to think bulldogs were the cutest but then my grandpa who is a vet told me all the problems they have and I just can't deal. I feel so sad.
Agreed. The puppy my family ended up rescuing is a black lab/hound/something-or-other, who knows! He's like a mini black lab who hates water and he has a completely useless extra dew claws on one of his back feet. He's a healthy, happy little pup and I appreciate him all the more when I see these poor chronically sick purebred dogs.
My mutt is white with the most drop dead gorgeous eyes. One deep chocolate brown, the other is half ice blue and half grey. Breed standards would never create a dog with heterochromia and sectoral heterochromia! He's far cuter than any pug
Honestly this is disgusting. I remember as a little child how I loved “cute” dogs. But now, I want to get a so called mutt if I get a dog. I want to get a healthy dog with wealthy standards because all dogs are cute. This beauty standards for pets is truly disgusting. And horrible that we crave perfection in animals that we are willing to put them down just to fill our selfish desires. Disgusting.
Well, if you want the healthy dog with predictable temperament that will fit your family the easiest way is to choose a responsible breeder of the breed that has less genetic problems, mutt puppies are not some magical healthy dogs, but if you just want to get a mutt - do it.)
True. There are healthier breeds like Maltese. They have short snout too but no problems with breathing. I guess pugs are good for wealthy people that wanna dog but don't want to excercize much. But pugs lives is a suffer so it is a very questionable choice to have one
I can. But I feel awful about it. And I'd much prefer a healthy retriever, mongrel, playful dogs that don't squeal, treat me like shit, and that can breathe without choking on their own flab and see because they don't have loose skin flailing around and acting like a blindfold. Cuter and I don't feel like scum.
I can because it's just the looks, that could be by far the more exaggerated assumption I've ever heard of pugs 😂😂 they're very healthy bro and no, they don't suffer pain more that any other dog
@@MildorZalost0 If you can hear it breathing at any time other than when it is hot or during and after heavy exercise, then no, it is not healthy. Pug's are not cute. There was a time when I was a naive child that I thought so, but now that I know how unhealthy they are and how much pain they are in 24/7 I cannot think them cute at all and it honestly baffles me how others can find this mess of suffering dog "cute". That pugs are unhealthy and suffering is not exaggerated nor is it an assumption. It is a cold hard cruel fact. Or did you not bother to pay any attention to this video? Though he did not go into detail about the breathing issues, there are physical reasons for them. When was the last time you tried doing your normal daily activities while breathing through a pillow? Because that is an apt comparison for what being a pug is like. Retro pugs are fine. They have enough of a snout to alleviate their breathing issues and longer legs with sounder bone structure. Pugs should never have existed as they are today.
It broke my heart when my Aunt lost her dog to old age and choose years later to finally get a new purebread one. That poor puppy come from some weirdo breeders and had crippling genetic defects in his spine that caused constant suffering, it was always yowling in pain when it tried to walk. The poor thing was put down at only 6 months old. Just tragic
A friend of mine has a rescue-pug. The poor dog had to had taken both eyes out. The eye pressure was beggining to be too big, as there often is not enough room in their heads for the eyes. People should stop playing god out of boredom.
@SeventhKing German shepherds also suffer from genetic disorders. That infamous sloped back is not natural and this causes back pain and bad hip problems later in life.
@@Andyatl2002 That'll work for predictions mostly, which is why it's important to know the line. If we're talking about German Shepards, hip and elbow dysplasia are really common (where the bone doesn't fit right in the joint and wears itself away), as well as keratitis (a disease of the cornea), which will eventually lead to blindness. Most German Shepards are partial to these issues, but a good breeder will know their lines and try to breed puppies with minimal risk. Of course, show dogs are a whole other story. You _want_ that sloped back for the AKC, but if you've ever watched those dogs walk, it looks excruciating. Imagine having to walk in a half-crouch for the rest of your life.
But sometimes the breedstandards are healthy too (mostly for functioning working dogs though) and are needed to ensure that herding or hunting dogs don't loose their instincts and aren't bred in a way that their apperance starts to interfere with their working abilities. The goal of all breedstandards should be to keep or restore breeds to the point that they are healthy, but sadly that isn't a truth for all breeds yet.
Bowgart 67 I don’t get it either it just looks like a deformity to me and then I hear about how it causes health and breathing problems which makes me question why it’s not illegal
Health is paramount in any animal breeding program. Were you aware that many breed standards were written specifically to ensure the health of the breed? Why do you assume that breed standards are contrary to health?
We should just stop breeding in general. Like there's so many animals in shelters that deserve a home and they even (at least where I live) get treatment for health problems, get shots, and trained to do tricks, be potty trained, etc. And most of the time they're way cheaper then a breeder.
@@S_u_n_Flower_ You either have not thought out your statement very well, or you have a particularly evil agenda. You would ensure that the only dogs available are from shelters (where all dogs are sterilized before being sold), all coming from accidental breedings, “backyard breeders” and “puppy mills”, all of which you want to stop. In other words, it appears you believe that all dogs should not exist.
I hardly even get the "Aw cute" reaction when I see pugs anymore, and especially not English bulldogs. They are horrifically malformed, and objectively unhealthy from birth. And seeing people try to defend it is like talking to someone who believes the earth is flat. "He's not in pain, see he's happy!" Why yes, and people born with severe genetic defects are capable of being happy, too. The difference is their parents didn't choose to breed them into existence with those defects for the sake of vanity and money.
@@pinkfluffy82 There enough dogs from flat-faced breeds that have trouble breathing amongst other health issues to constitute the fact that, on average, a flat-faced dog will suffer some kind of ailment in their life. Flat-faced breeds were a _mistake._
For a millennia old dog such as the pug, it's fitting that as society gets more decadent, so do they have to ruin dog breeding too. As you can tell from my picture, I love pugs a lot, they are emotionally intelligent dogs and very good natured. It's the breed standards people choosing dysgenic traits as well as puppy mills pumping out puppies with very poor health that is ruining this breed. They wouldn't have survived this long if they were always this way. I say yes, do breed more retro pugs and select for long snouts, long legs and healthy traits.
My neighbor has a pug, and whenever I see the pug it goes: *SNORT SNORT KKFFAUGH HHH AA HHHH AAA HHHH AA* But it’s quite friendly to me and nice :) In my opinion the pug’s short nose isn’t that “awwww” kind of looking. I liked pugs BEFORE those idiots started making the snouts shorter.
If you want a *before mass breeding pug* get a retro pug, they look like them and since their mixed they probably have less then half of the health problems
Good lord, that lady saying they take perfectly healthy puppies to be killed just for not having a fur ridge made my blood boil. Whatever vet they "personally know" (AKA they knew no other sane vet would condone that) who helps them with that needs to lose their job, immediately. I can't believe there are cases of animal cruelty that get a proper jail sentence, but this shit is allowed and rewarded. Great video! It has good information and sensibilities that don't come at the cost of having to listen to a rabid PETA extremist ramming their guilt-trip opinion down your throat. The rampant and unhealthy breeding of animals is an issue that needs to be seriously addressed and cracked down on, as it's way too exploitable, currently. Sadly people are content to brush the root of the issues under the rug, just like they do with every other major problem.
I literally thought that was taken out of context but no, they literally kill perfectly healthy puppies because they don’t meet vain pedigree standards. What the fuck??
My sister shadowed vets, and apparently heard stories about some people bringing in puppies to vet offices to be put down because they failed to spay their dog and didn't want the puppies it had. Vets don't like to do that, but they are supposed to do what is the request of the owner. Some vets apparently take the puppies in the back room, say they did it, but then give the puppies away later.
littlekitsune1 Whats terrifying and tragic is animals have zero rights. A person with a perfectly healthy, yet unwanted animal has every right to have that animal put down.
Pure breeds are "superior". To produce the "perfect dog" with the "perfect traits" they are subjugated to intense interbreeding. To me, sounds like those people's racism reached their pets too.
More a psychotic leftover of the medieval ages and the want to be like the nobility of old, and a weird fascination with eugenics also they're probably some type of racist.
@@TheFlyingSailorYT Of course you immediately go for a personal attack with your saying that this "didn't reach" me. I guess I should not be surprised considering that this is the RU-vid comment section. While there are of course correlation between racism and eugenics, it is far from the same thing as you most likely already know. Eugenics is to try and "improve" the genetic material, most often in ways we today would consider abhorring. Racism on the other hand is the hating and discrimination of someone because their supposed inferiority.
@@themaskedperu-man5547 His snout is more protruded than most pugs I've seen, he rarely makes those weird noises too and when he pants its not as severe
If you must get a Pug, PLEASE I implore you to get a Retro-Pug. They looks closer to what Pug's used to look like a hundred years ago, are generally healthier in all respects, and are still pretty damn cute. I would say they looks even cuter than "normal" Pugs.
they are also breeding pugs with other dogs now to make "Designer breeds" that make amazing dogs! (Designer breeds is also a dumb concept). Pugs have a great temperament and are very affectionate but they need to be able to breathe! I adopted a puggit which is a mix of a pug and a mini Italian gray hound and she is sooo cute! she also can breathe and loves to run.
I mean I'm kinda a leopard gecko nerd and the problem isnt breeding relatives to relatives. There's a random chance of getting a recessive genetic defect when you breed something now when you breed a completly unrelated animal to this animal nothing will happen because the other animal doesn't have the recessive trait but when you breed relatives to each other the more inbreeding the more likely these traits will pop up because the other animal have this trait. It's fine in leopard geckos most of the time because thier Gene's are well documented and so are thier lineages now in dogs they have been so much this way they are basically fucked... so maybe the problem is inbreeding! XD
@Narancia Ghirga I'm not saying we should be breeding pure bred dogs and i didn't say we shouldn't focus on dogs without homes, i think we should focus on adopting dogs but the practice of breeding dogs in of itself isn't a crime the video even agrees with me in the beginning when hes talking bout what early versions of modern day dogs look like. We should defiantly focus on adopting dogs from shelters, you took my comment out of context.
I used to work at a dog daycare I remember a particular pug that not only had the problems with being a pug, but was also very overweight and had anxiety issues he constantly walked around in circles due to these issues and breathed worse then the average pug It hurt to watch.
Yeah dog deformities are as bad as modern art, they will litterally ruin animals lives because it's "cute",i am nor a vegan nor an animal rights activist,it's just that the situation has gone very bad
@@asherkarr5096 I would suggest he try try to adopt one. There are pugs out there that need a good home and then he wouldn't be putting money in the pockets that profit from their pain.
Venus Winchester yr friend ought to ensure they have a sound understanding of the cost of having BOAS corrective surgery is. or the cost of an enucleation, because chances are their dog's eyeball(s) will pop on outta the socket at some point in their lives. pugs will also likely not be able to move much without pain, & often the pain is so severe that their owners must euthanize them. if yr friend truly wants to drop thousands on a genetic mess, just make sure that yr friend is aware that genetic messes tend to cost thousands of additional dollars to tend to vs. mesocephalic (normal faced) dogs.
Russia or germany are working for a longer snouted longer legged look for the pug, because they recognize the health issues involved with current and want whats best for them, so they're takin pugs back to how they looked before, which, i think is wonderful, much respect to them.
Germany is producing "Retro-mops"/Retro-pugs. Basically pug breeders out-crossed pugs to the Parson Russel Terrier then back bred the offspring into pugs and only selected the offspring from the back breeding with the longest snouts to continue breeding. A stubby snout, smaller eyes, finer body and less wrinkles is the result. The stubby snout is enough to take care of the breathing issues of the pug breed and due to the outcrossing, they have better genetic diversity than the pure and very much unhealthy pug.
I would never buy a dog just because a famous person owns it,i just want for the dog to be healthy and happy, not some deformed piece of crap that can't breathe and needs medical help very often
I hate how this information is so available and so many people still don't know or choose to ignore it. It's disgusting how many people just don't care.
My cat was born with a slightly deformed trachea (it’s not because of his breed or whatever he was just unfortunately born that way) and even though it’s not that big of a deal and he only has very very slight breathing problems occasionally it still stresses me out a lot sometimes... so I literally cannot fathom how people can be fine with breeding these dogs >:/
it's extremely profitable and people are stupid enough to pay ridiculous sums of money for these mutants. Welcome to dog culture, it's fucking backward.
I am of firm belief that my Pug, Igor was bred from a line of old pugs, his legs are long and snout much longer than the average pug, he looks like the old 19-20th century pug. At 10 years of age he hasnt had a single disease or illness beyond his allergies and i think eczema he has no trouble breathing, eating or sleeping if we can breed more pugs like Igor then im fine but if the dogs keep getting bred smaller and more disfigured then we're in some serious trouble
Chances are that hes not a "pureblood" pug, some people who breed pugs and french bulldogs add other breeds into the mix ( i think some kind of terrier, not sure though) to essentially make the breed look like it did a century ago, with less breathing problems and similar, leading to a more normal snout and longer legs.
@i nyru i I'm talking about conventional beauty, not conventional thoughts/behavior. Use your brain for once. And, your idea of beauty is so bland, so uninteresting.
They are hideous mounds of suffering matter, barely breathing and sick with pestilence and health issues their entire miserable life. Imagine having a nose so squashed and flat, that you can barely take enough oxygen to not die where you're attempting to intake the air. Imagine living in chronic, agonizing pain in a body barely able to function! Think they're cute? No. They probably want to die while some teenage like-hunter on Instagram swaddles them in crochet hats and doggy sweaters.
That part with the women just giggling and smiling while she talks about killing dogs because they don't have the right aesthetics.....That is just....she's a monster She even talks about it like a cartoon villain "We bring them to an old vet we know to quietly put them to sleep." How do you not hear yourself say that and not think at some point " Wow, I am a disgusting"

Same way you enjoy your meal when you eat your burger. Seriously, try thinking about something for more than two seconds before posting next time. 😂 She clearly has a more scientific view and treats dogs more closely to other animals in her mind. It's amazing how people get so offended over behavior like that, then go out and eat another animal. So, putting a dog who was genetically engineered to be miserable out of its misery is totally so much worse than raising and killing animals for the sole purpose of eating them... Got it. 😂
@@awesomeferretThats different because one was bred for a use and the other was bred for literally no reason. Necessary evils exist, the world will never be the sparkly land you want it to be. This however, is just unnecessary and could be changed.
The ridgeback situation, in the kennel club guidelines it says " ridge-less puppies should be culled" (culled is selective killing) Funny that because ridge-less puppies have less of a chance of developing genetic diseases, but no, they are culled because of a stupid desired trait. Because of all the backlash surrounding the breed, they removed the statement, but they still believe it and practice it.
The kennel club (at least the UK one, which was featured in that documentary about crufts) no longer supports culling healthy pups - their guidelines now suggest that a breeder should offer them to 'pet homes' (ie: non-show dog owners) and ensure that their contract of sale includes a spay/neuter clause. From their code of ethics: "Breeders:...Will agree that no healthy puppy will be culled. Puppies which may not conform to the Breed Standard should be placed in suitable homes." The documentary shown is a few years old now, most of the 'oldschool' breeders like the old bag who thought nothing of killing pups without a ridge are thankfully out of the game by now.
@@michaelharder9737 Yeah.... except when you consider that they DID kill the pups. And that the word 'cull' can be defined as 'the selective slaughter of animals'. or to send a surplus of animals to slaughter.
I know cat people aren't as big on breeds, and the breeds there are tend to usually (barring some exceptions) better off than some specialty dogs, but I still feel bad for a lot of cats. Persians and exotics come to mind for some of the same reasons pugs do; their flat faces cross a line into uncanny valley and I become concerned about their eyes and how clean they stay. Munchkins are adorable, but there's still the issue of their backs and poor breeding with them. Scottish folds may the ones I feel worse for; the cute little droopy ears usually come with chronic joint pain. All the cat's I've had growing up have been ex-feral "dumpster cats" or from shelters; they're sweet, beautiful animals! Still, I understand wanting specific looks and personality types. However, exploiting the kitties and their health is never ok.
I agree. One of the worst examples I've seen is bengals. They may not be totally destroyed with each generation, but it's still horrible. They cost double-digit thousands! Poor animals.
I volunteer at a cat rescue, and ex ferals/"mutts" are just the best! We had a big fella named Pretty Boy, and he got adopted out yesterday! He had a big head, and a tiny body, and just the cutest meow. Rescue cats are the best!
Oh yeah, and the Bombay cat breeds in America have been inbred to a point they have a genetic disease. despite the fact, you need two very different cat breeds to bred them originally. Plus those hairless cats? Yeah, cross breed them and the males cannot pee properly. And do not get me started on the new craz teacup cats. Poor things look at their legs, they cannot have a full cat life with those.
I love my Ziggy, but I'm not going to lie, it is NOT natural for his eyes to constantly shake because of his deformed eye-sockets, something apparently breed into Siamese cats (he's a lynx blue point with a round head, not that fucking triangle head nonsense) on PURPOSE! my fucking cat cannot see, almost as bad as me (I suffer from a muscle detachment that causes my left eye to rapidly shake and see double) and it's disgusting. Never getting a so-called pure-bred again, the poor babies. Mixes are WAY healthier and Zoe (another cat I had) lived till she was 24 years old. And I'm not sure if Ziggy will make it to 15...
I think that I'll never love any cats more than my own so called strays even though many of them are considered 'ugly' and probably boring because they are just black. What Ive noticed in the past few years is how everyone seemed to be wanting a grey cat. The grey furred kittens are always the first to go away followed by the other female kittens. I'm usually left with the male black kittens and even though I love them a lot it just hurts me to hear people say no to them just because they look like that. Heck, I even love my squint eyed old black lady who has the worst temper and randomly slaps other cats for no reason. She has scratched me a lot but I would really miss her when she's gone

What's sad is that some young people think that sloped back (like the dog has hip problems) is the "normal" look. German Shepherds did NOT look like that until relatively recently. Why that became the fad is unfathomable. It's disgusting.
I never understood the fascination with pugs. Even as a kid I thought something was ‘off’ about the breed, I remember seeing one for the first time at a park, I was like 8 or so, and I literally said; “that dog looks like it got smashed in the face with a frying pan.”
Pugs normally aren’t supposed to breathe like that. A lean, healthy pug will live as long as a normal dog. I’ve had mine for 9 years and the vet says she’s the healthiest pug they’ve ever seen. (9 years old is their typical lifespan. She’s going to live another 4)
Waverly Mullins my sister in law has one (1 year old) she treats him very well and yet he breaths like his gonna get a stroke! and such a ugly dog! 😂😂😂
Pugs are adorable, but not because of how they look. But because they’re sweet dogs and they should’ve never been treated like this. On behalf of the good half of the human race, we’re sorry, you good hearted creatures. We don’t deserve you.
I totally agree with you. I'm reading the comments and I don't really see people worrying about pug's health. I only see hate. We would never suppress people for having breathing problems, isn't it? We would never say things like "they shouldn't exist, what's wrong with them", but still, some people are so ready to say cruel things. It makes me sad. Every dog MIGHT develope problems, the truth is that you can never know. No dog is "wrong". I loved that she was so easy to train and looked forward to her growing up into a big, smart, and loyal dog and she did grow to be a loyal family member. But when she was 6 months old she would scream out in pain for what seemed like no apparent reason she would cry and drag her back legs, at times she would roll around in pain. We thought she was sick and took her to the vet ASAP! They looked her over, tested her, x-ray, however they told us she was suffering from hip dysplasia. A common problem with GSDs. They told us the only thing we could do for her was give her small amounts of baby ibuprofen to ease the pain especially in winter when she could hardly walk. It was hard to watch her suffer, unfortunately, she passed away from a rattlesnake bite a few months after her first birthday... Though she was a great dog and because of her I love the breed, it's a shame that many like her are victims of careless breeders. They only breed these dogs for the sake of money and don't give shit about the dogs well being and health. I know that there are great breeders who are caring and responsible to not breed these "common" health problems/ issues but it seems to be few and far.
In order to correct some of the problems caused by inbreeding, the breeders would have to crossbreed the dogs to produce healthier puppies. But then they couldn't advertize that they were selling German Shepherds, even if the crossbreeding happened 3 generations back. And then stupid people would think, "Oh, but I want to get a REAL German Shepherd!" So the people mating puppies to their siblings and parents and grandparents continue to make money. It really is sickening.
If you are looking to get another one in the future I would recomend a gray german shepherd. I work with one through my school. He has such a lovable personality and his back is healthy because that kind of breeding hasn't been done to this type :)
@@zammmerjammer To be fair, there's tons of GSDs that come from lines with healthy hips. Some breeders have worked hard to only breed from tested dogs to prevent the issue. Working lines are miles healthier than the show lines, for example, because they actually need to be fit for purpose.
Getting a GSD without hip dysplasia is very easy. You just need to find a reputable breeder that testes the parents for hip issues, rather than going for the cheapest dog on craigslist. In the future you can ask if the parents have OFA testing done. The breeder can easily provide a link to the results. It won't save your dog from a rattlesnake bite. But buying a quality puppy will save you the heartache of watching a dog suffer from preventable genetic disorders.
@@zammmerjammer well you dont have it from me but in Belgium we forged the first litters to get some better gene pools german shepherds with mechelaar (malinois) this was a time most needed guard dogs and no one really saw a difference between them. i got a purebred from a workline however but still thats what happened before the kennel club shit
I don't understand what people find so cute about brachycephalic dogs. The bulging eyes, the sad mobility issues that come with barrel bodies and little legs, the squashed faces that look like they ran into a frying pan, the crust they get between the folds and wrinkles, the unsightly underbites and the constant labored breathing...I mean??? This is supposed to be cute?
These people disgust me. I knew a girl who was really into unhealthy dog breeding for show. I confronted her about it in a logical approach. She just ignored me and refused to talk about it. These people are acting deaf to the immoral truth of their sick game.
GreenMonkeySam I think you mean confirmation breeding. There is lots of different types of shows, such as hunting, vermin, schutzhund, birding, agility, and so on.
It annoys me only when people have those dogs but don't keep them healthy. I'm totally here for someone who has a cute pug, but if they don't care for it then it's annoying.
I have a rescue pure bred Staffordshire terrier (pit bull) whose parents are award winning show dogs. All the puppies came out blue except one, he was tan and the owners were going to put him down because he wasn't the "right" color and they didn't think he would sell. I begged them to let me have him instead so they gave him to me. Later they found out that several people had made offers of $500 to $1000 to buy him off me (he wasn't for sale, I turned them down) so the original owners sent me a bill for $400, half the price they charge for "correct" colored puppies. I tore it up and sent it back to them, they can fuck right off. They were going to kill that dog and gave him to me for free when they thought he was worthless. Anyway, he has a shortened snout, not anywhere as dramatic as a pug but even he has trouble breathing. His head is so massive & heavy that he gets tired of holding it up and will rest his chin on stuff whenever possible to take some of the strain off his neck.
Disgusting people. How cruel and heartless! I'm glad he was saved by you and obviously given a better, happier, and loving life. It's a shame people use animals to breed just to make a profit off of the offspring, I know not all breeders are evil but I can't help feel like its a strange business to get into in the first place *rant over*
@@Callimo Thanks, I know he appreciates me rescuing him too. Despite his breathing issues and stupidly big head he enjoys being alive very much. He's 4 years old now but he still plays like a puppy and loves to run. I moved to a house with a bigger yard just to give him more room to run but due to his breathing issues he can only run for so long before he starts coughing up phlegm and wheezing. He was specifically bred to have that head shape and size because it looks intimidating as all get out but he's had to suffer for it. Pits are status symbol dogs where I live so lots of people breed them to sell and they think the scarier looking they are the better. Not only are they bred to have ridiculously big heads with shorter snouts and extremely muscular chests & legs but many owners also dock their tails and have their ears cropped. It's crazy all the genetic manipulation and unnecessary surgeries they will put these dogs thru just so they look a certain way, they've basically become a living fashion accessory. I would never put my dog thru surgery for my own vanity, that's just selfish, cruel and unethical. I don't know why people think this is acceptable to do to an animal.
@@JA-ux1rz I don't know actually I'm not up on what makes a staffy show quality or not (and I don't really care) but those people are specifically breeding for that coloring because the blue color looks unusual and is in high demand here so they sell really well, it's all about money. That's why they were going to kill my dog for being tan, they didn't want to spend money on food, shots and veterinary care only for him to not sell and then they wouldn't get a return on their investment.
The way Bull Terriers used to look is adorable! But I find them unsettling to look at with how they look now, and I freaking love dogs! I even love Xolos and many people find them ugly!
Hooded Raire it’s because of the walter meme too. people started getting them, not knowing that they take effort to take care of, and not only do they now have health problems, but they’re all going to shelters.
It pains me as an animal lover to see "designer dogs" and "purebred" dogs have to live like this. Constant walking problems, breathing problems, hip problems etc. And it hurts me even more to see thousands of good, healthy dogs in shelters get put down because too many people want purebred puppies(that are usually from puppy mills, which is a whole other can of worms). Then there's corporations like PETA, who put down 90-95% of the animals they've "rescued" who claim to be animal rights activists, when in reality they intentionally hurt healthy animals that could've lived long, happy lives. I can go on and on about how much I hate people and companies that hurt animals.
Most of the kill shelters doesnt really have enough resources to keep all these animals alive. But i agree, people should really be adopting dogs and cats so we could help these animals to not get killed by the shelter
The reason because of this is irresponsible breeders. Not all breeders who breed purebred dogs breed stock like this. If everyone purchased from ETHICAL breeders who health and temperment test then there wouldnt be many dogs in shelters because they wouldnt have any problems. Its the irresponsible breeders and the people who purchase their dogs thst suck. Adopt or shop but do both responsibly!! And yes peta are dicks
@@RaidenTheRipper88 i strongly disagree and think you should educate yourslef on ethical breeders who priortise the health and temperment of their stock and match their puppies perfectly to their future owners
@@RaidenTheRipper88 I personally know a man who breeds dalmatians and he has a HUGE heart for his animals. He is entirely devoted to their health and only gives them to select owners. He's told me that because he doesn't want to harm his pups or inbreed them, some people have to wait for years to get a dog from him. He also owns a business selling high quality dog and cat food.
I’m a former pug owner and I do agree with all the valid points this video made. My little pug Koji, (RIP) died two months ago at the young age of 2 yrs old. During those two years it was countless visits to the vet, resulting in lots of medication and the hefty amount that came with it. At just 2 months he already had an eye infection. Throughout the 2 years he had a total of 3 eye infections, an unexplainable bacterial infection between his folds, but worst of all he sneezed blood. After he turned 1, he was due for his annual vaccines and suddenly when we got home, he suffered an allergic reaction. It’s already hard enough for pugs to breath but having something blocking his airway was pure torture. They treated him and said nothing was wrong, but after two days he started sneezing blood. His sneezing was very frequent at night and no vets were open during that time so, I had no choice but to take him to the emergency pet hospital, in which they charged more. After countless vet surgeries Koji stopped sneezing. A few months later, like any regular night I kissed him goodnight and put his beds in my sister’s room. He liked sleeping there anyways, but just in case I always left a spare bed in the living and my room, so he can choose whichever he can be comfortable in. Unfortunately, I woke up to my sister screaming that he wasn’t moving we rushed to the same ER and sadly, he did not make it. It was so sudden that they declared it was a heart attack. I knew within my heart that he wasn’t a healthy pug, no pug is healthy. Even if he didn’t have all these health problems you still have to be careful with them. You need to clean their face folds daily, watch their diet since they’re prone to obesity, they can’t breathe properly even when they sleep or during a regular walk. I love pugs in general, but if you plan on getting one be ready for a plethora of vet bills and concerns that you don’t usually have if you have a regular ‘healthy’ dog. Brachycephalic dogs in general are not healthy, just a warning.
Roxanne Cirineo i made my Jack Russel Terrier breed with A mutt kind of Terrier, and his offspring came off healthier than him, still is not that spike is unhealthy, he just got very fat after wing sterilized? Is there any way to help him lose weight or is it purely hormonal?
@@DAXminer-g1g Hypothyroidism and obesity is common in neutered dogs because they don't have their hormones to keep it in check anymore. You just have to keep a very close eye on their weight and they may need to be medicated in more severe cases to prevent obesity. Only thing I can recommend other than a vet visit is to watch his food intake and give him plenty of exercise. If you have a bike and live in an appropriate place I would suggest that you train him to run beside it and build up to running him for 3+ km per day. Just make sure he runs on grass and be careful of sign posts and cones lest you go one way and he goes the other and run him with the leash attached to a harness, not his collar in case of sudden stops or yanking. If he enjoys pulling while biking you may consider bike-joring though I'm not sure if that would work with a dog his size. Roller blading is another option if you have smooth pavement and are confidant enough to control him and your own speed.
@@skyeiron5872 Minor correction, but hypothyroidism causes obesity, not hyper. Hyperthyroidism is uncommon in dogs and is more a disease of middle-aged and senior cats, making them super skinny and ratty looking.
Skye Iron well, the thing is he doesn’t like big dogs, and he always tries to pick fights with them (real fights) and you know how that would turn out so when I take him out I always keep him in a leash, one thing I do is take him to the soccer field and play ball (I’m a very good thrower), I throw it to the other side of the field and he’ll run for it, then when he brings it back rinde and repeat for several minutes, sometimes I take a full hour to play with him (when I can spare the time) but generally just 30 minutes, I think I’m gonna try to regulate his diet more... he does eat a lot.
There's a similar thing happening with Arabian horses, where breeders try so hard to get the 'pretty' dished face, that they neglect to realise that the poor horse can't breathe properly. Horses breathe predominantly through their nose, and the dished face does a similar thing to the squashed nose on a pug. They just can't get the same volume of air in that other horse breeds can. It's horrendous, and pisses me off to no end. To actually be on the topic of dogs, I've never really been a fan of pugs. I prefer large dogs with proper snouts, such as German shepherds and border collies. I also love greyhounds, but the racing of them just makes me sad. (My family owns a little Italian Greyhound, she's gorgeous). So many animals would be much better off if we just let them be, honestly.
I love G shepherds, but there are a lot of breeders worshipping that weird downward back slope. I think they even have back problems. My German had a regular spine though.
I'm not sure if it still exist but there was a dog show here in the US that specializes in mixed breeds. It wasn't just a showing but they also had agility competitions, personality, talent, and trick categories. Best in show was always really interesting due to so many different unique dogs there. A good handful we're rescues. Very wholesome. Also my dog is a chihuahua/jack Russell mix. She's a terror and I love her!
You know - if human zoos would still be a thing, like in Belgium with black people, and people would breed other people to look cute... That would be fucked as hell. I mean, breeding super humans useing the best genetical stock would be still iffy if kinda usefull, breeding ultimate retards would be just, you know, retarded. Imaging some sick fucks breeding abominations like people with down syndrome with victims of radiation poison, if that is even possible, or creating herds of midgets, becouse some people think those are cute.
I love pugs and I own 2 of them but they were both adopted. My first was 5 years old and was found abandoned at a pound and the second was 6 and given up by a family who couldn't take care of him anymore. Both have had serious and expensive health problem. I love then both so much and love pugs but I would never buy a pug puppy becasue I don't support their breeding. Always adopt!
About 30 minutes north of where I live there was a french bulldog puppy mill busted and the dogs had so many health issues that they could not be adopted from the SPCA. An organization we had a day at my job for found good homes and only let people who were financially stable enough to care for the dogs health issues could adopt and they were all adopted within a week. I feel so bad for the little guys even though I’ve always had a place in my heart for dogs with smushed faces :(
We adopted our pug from a rescue and, yes, pugs are awesome! I agree with a lot of the video, but I don't agree with him thinking pugs are ugly...maybe if you have a very conventional way of looking at beauty, sure. Anyway, yes, adopt an unwanted pug and don't buy them from puppy mills!
I adopted a Bull Terrier, some retards throwed him in the street because he was Deaf, its such a nice and friendly dog, and it would be perfectly beautiful breed if they didn't made his head into an egg, the original Bull Terrier had the head like the now extinct English White Terrier, which was Amazingly beautiful, still, the dog is definitely the best dog I've ever had despite being deaf
a few years ago our old pug Dexter passed away. We could always hear where he was due to his breathing. He also was mostly blind and deaf, and the only way he could move around the house was because he lived there for so long (about 10 years in that house, he was 14). Whenever we moved furniture around he would walk straight into it, it was depressing. During his last year or so, he didn't even respond to his name because he couldn't hear anything. On the day we put him to sleep, His eyes were falling out of his head. It was awful, and I'm glad my mom took him out of the house before my younger brother could see. Overall, I would never support the breeding of pugs or any other breeds with terrible genetic deformities like pugs.
Dachshunds actually have a purpose for their shape, though its highly exaggerated in the pure bred society. They are torpedo shaped to help chase after badgers underground. Their small yet powerful legs and slender, long body help them through the tight tunnels. Their name is German for "badger dog" because of this reason. They are of course more commonly used as lap dogs nowadays. I have a dachshund myself and I've had him since i was extremely young. When i see people with extremely long backed dachshunds making them do tricks where the dog stands on their hind legs, i scream internally. With such long backs, doing stuff like this will harm their backs. They also shouldnt jump from high places like beds and couches for the same reason. Dachshunds are relatively healthy dogs when not bred to be 8 kilometers long. Also, what the new standard for German Shepherds are now is awful. They want their hind legs to practically be in a forever squatting position. This is supposed to "help them when springing forward in an attack" when it does as much good as having the longest back for a dachshund. The kennel clubs are so idiotic to me. You take dogs that have a practical purpose and drive them to shit. It makes me really sad to see stuff like that
It's a shame to see working breeds ruined for fashion. I had an English pointer who didn't have the jowls of most English pointers and remember my late dad saying to me "if I was to train him, he'd make a good work dog!" My dad was a game keeper and worked with gun dogs before. Morgan, the dog I'm question, was gun shy however so he was never trained to work in the field. He still pointed though! Died at 16 years he did. Can't see show pointers making that milestone myself.
The problem is exactly the exaggeration of today's dachshunds traits, which leads to more health issues because the desired trait is seen as more important than a dog's health and happiness.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Bostons or Frenchies. Great video btw, I can't believe Bulldogs only live 6 years now. They're in my top 5 least favorite dogs breed because they're so deformed and unhealthy.
Theres a standard of sorts that basically says "The further your dog looks from a wolf,, the more unhealthy and deformed it likely is." As is evident from the dogs you used as examples for the sick breeding practices of people. I think we should write that standard into an animals rights law somehow.
E A this is why i’m not a fan of most small dogs, because they don’t look like dogs to me. most of them are ugly too and have so many health problems that they’re permanently gross (eyes dripping, snotty nose, etc) and it makes me feel bad but i feel repulsed being around them
E A I mean, that's what evolution is though. Also, dogs aren't wolves, they're a distinct subspecies and some taxonomists think they should be considered a completely different species (and really, that would depend on how one defines species). Dogs are not wolves, they have distinct behaviours that they do not share with wolves. An example of this is that dog trainers/behaviouralist have all but abandoned applying what we know about wolf social structure to dogs. An example of this is that dogs, both tame and feral, do not form the highly structured social hierarchies that their wild counterparts do.

Not necessarily. German shepherds don't look too off from wolves yet they come with an array of hereditary health issues. Just stay away from any pure breed, get a healthier mixed dog and you're way better off
The show GSD line has strayed far from their original look and purpose, it's true. However, there are still people out there keeping the old working lines of shepherds going- I have one and he's great. And, credit to my local GSD Kennel Club, at least in Australia there are currently moves within the show community to improve the breed and try to eradicate or reduce heritable diseases such as hip dysplasia.
"My dog is soo cute! It's perfect now." Yeah after you bashed in its face and cut of its legs. Now he basically stumbles. Not to mention the poor thing can't breathe! Now won't you be happy spending more money on your dog's healthcare.
My friend doesn’t understand how evolution and selective breeding works. I tried to explain to her that what we did to pugs is fucked up but for some reason she doesn’t believe that it’s because of our interference. She thinks that breeds just pop into existence outta nowhere. She wouldn’t even believe me when I said that dogs evolved from wolfs and over time we genetically tamed them to be man’s best friend.
thegirlwarriør She’s a good person but one her flaws is that she’s one of those Christians that don’t believe in evolution, I’m all for letting people have faith in whatever they want but you can’t deny something that’s literally a fact.
My Australian Sheppard was my favorite dog. When she passed from cancer it made me go into a multi-month depression. Sammi would pose every time you said camera. She was by far the smartest most loving dog I ever had.
Pugs are nasty looking. My neighbor has a Basset Hound who is now paralyzed because of back deformities. All it took was a fall from a bed and now he needs a doggie wheelchair.
A flat face is NOT "cute" or "adorable". The look of these suffering animals is devastating. This is OUR fault. Unethical breeding is horrible. A feline example of the pedigree issue is the Ragdoll breed. A very fascinating trait was discovered in one cat and was bred into infinity. Buying a ragdoll almost always bring the inescapable worry that your lovely, loyal friend will die of either a heart issue slowly, with nothing you can do but watch, (Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, I'm pretty sure.) or another likely tragedy is paralysis due to another disease. Think about where they're from before you buy, and whether that breed is know for these practices.
Actually, they are pretty damned cute. Stop trying to be self righteous. Love how Pugs are always used in these vids. Bulldogs are much worse off and should be a staple of the problems with pudge faced dogs. Many Pugs do not have difficulty breathing. There are bad examples that do. Hell, there are bad examples of any pure bred dogs. Yet it's always Pugs. We have a retro mop currently. Once had a Pug. While I do agree a retro mop is the best way to go, our Pug never had issues breathing. Her face wasn't a pancake though. Not all Pugs have a super flat face.
The same goes for French bulldogs btw (and I think English?). They are a breed, that LITERALLY cannot procreate naturally. All puppies result from artificial insemination because they cannot achieve it naturally, and they are born with a C-section because the mother would literally die from natural birth. Oh and the C-section procedure is highly risky because their frail little bodies are susceptible to all kinds of failures from the anesthesia, requiring an extra anesthesiologist veterinarian to be present... what are we doing to our poor dogs...
I think it's most bulldogs. Old English, American, and French. Add to that, if memory serves me right, Boston Terriers and whatever the hell that walking pompom was in the video, it's sadly a lot of dogs that have the breathing issue and, possibly, the breeding issue.
I have a mongrel found in the street when he was around 2 y.o., he’s around 10 years old and has not had a single health issue. He’s still as strong and vivacious as he was when I found him. My neighbours have various pedigree dogs and they’ve all aged really bad, some are no longer with us.
@@Molotov_Milkshake I think it's not really comparable, farm animals are used for eating like actual sustanance of some type. An actual use. But here, we are talking about people breeding animals into having horrible health issues for no reason except aesthetic, a feature that serves no actual purpose except "looking cute".
Some of them were actually bread for usefulness. The tot fox terrier was bread to be small enough to chase foxes out of fox holes so that the hunter or other dogs could kill it or tear it to shreds.
Did an Animal anatomy module as part of my Animal course last year and the veterinarian who taught the class stressed these exact issues, he described the airways of a pug using the comparison of a person having to breathe through a drinking straw their entire lives, said that the people who breed them are generally pretty selfish too, although thankfully there are pug crosses out there such as Jugs and Puggles that are gaining in popularity somewhat. Nice to see the issue brought into public light, great vid! P.S. That woman who admitted to having puppies put down because they lacked ridges is a disgusting human being and I hope she and the vet she used were prosecuted for it at some point, sadly I've seen breeders get away with such practices before.
@@srfrancium9728 They can and many need to, but it doesn't fix the problem entirely, surgery can make normal breathing bearable for them but breathing when exercising and sleeping can still be problematic even after surgery, especially in older dogs. Sadly it can be "too little, too late" for some as they have difficulties during and when recovering from anesthesia. And thanks to heart problems and/or obesity issues that usually develop because of their bad airways, pugs can die on the operating table or just after the airway surgery.
I got my pug when I was 10, and after growing up with him, I realized just how bad his life can be with his body. Shiro, my dog, is great. He's friendly, loved by my family, and is overall a great dog. He's active and loves going out but the problem is, he has asthma and it's extremely hard for him to walk for too long as his breathing gets heavy. I feel guilty for getting him because I know that by getting him, I just continued the line of another pug having to live with its extreme fucking deformities. I love him, but it's heartbreaking to see him tired as hell but still wanting to keep walking. I really want him to live a good life but I'm scared that even if I do all I can, he won't be able to with the way he was bred.
I Think my favorite dogs are the Ones that are close to wolves. German shepherds, Huskey's, and other similar dogs. I also throughougly enjoy Spaniel breeds. But when the dog is smaller than to my knee, I see issues. That is unless the dog is perfectly healthy in a small body (there are some that are).
Shibas are my favorite, but huskeys and german shepherds are also great! I hate how people have messed up so many breeds that were perfect in the first place just to try and make them “cuter”.
There is a great game where you play a video of an over heated pug and ask if it's a diesel truck with a rough idle. To the inexperienced it sounds very similar.
The british bulldog, not only a metaphor for the degrading civilization and culture of United Kingdom, also one of the most unhealthiest beeds known to man in early 21th century.
These dogs resemble the wealthy. The sick desire for purity was something these English nobleman of past also desired among themselves and look what that brought them. I prefer strays myself
I wanted to be a dog groomer, but quit because I got so sickend by what people do to dogs for show. None of this was done by the groomers, but by the dog breeds and I discovered it by grooming. One example is when I went to clean a Cockerspaniel’s ears, only to find I didn’t have to because they had been sewn closed! It sickens me just typing this.
I have a pug. However after having one you begin to see how severe their 'little' problems can be and its fucking heart breaking. Our pug constantly snores all day, which for a while I thought was innocent enough and quite cute. Until I started seeing how much worse it had gotten since he was a little pup. Nowadays? He can't lay on his side or on his back because it stops him being able to breathe. And at night? He'll barely manage to fall asleep because he snores so loud, but then once he does manage to fall asleep he'll jolt awake because he cannot draw a breath through his tiny nostrils. It is so fucking sad that a animal can't do something so simple as breathing, just so they can look and sound cute. It's disgusting. It just makes me sick knowing people make a living from selling these poor animals while acknowledging all of the issues they have. I regret ever buying one but I still love that dog more than I do anything in the world. Don't buy one, they'll break your heart.
if you want(and can afford it) to improve his quality of life, there is a surgery they can undergo that opens their nostrils a bit and facilitates their breathing,
@@generalteddie4279 I know this. However speaking to our vet, she said the operation would only help a tiny bit. So I'm stuck in between making him go through all pain and finding the money for the op and questioning if it's even worth it to be honest.
I agree it is a difficult choice to make, I have a pug too, and when I consulted with my vet she said that while the surgery would be beneficial on the long run, my girl had a very high surgical risk, so Im still on the fence about it
I know when I was young I wanted to get a shiba Inu, The history and looks was fascinating to me and their notable health and temperament, being more notably stubborn, was similar to my personality and up my alley. Now when I finally found one in my area at the local humane society, I was happy- even if they were not a “pure breed” and instead a mutt that maintained all the major features of a shiba Inu (coat, ears, face, tail, etc). Even to this day in his old age, I love my Shiba more then anything else and some time after his passing, I would adopt another shiba Inu again (despite the fact that no other shiba that I could adopt in the future holding a candle to the quirky shiba formally known as “Chester”). The point of my overly sappy Shiba-loving post is, I would not care if my shiba Inu can trace its lineage to the founding of Japan or if it is your run of the mill son of a bitch, as long as that shiba Inu is healthy, happy, and lives up to the shiba Inu namesake- I’m happy.
I have to agree that my favorite dog trait has always been son-of-a-bitch; the best dogs are loyal and true, will defend your family with their life, always know when you need cheering up and it sure as heck doesn't matter who their mum and dad are.

@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 I actually know why we give the scum of society benefits, and it's not about them. Mostly. Basically, by making those benefits available to them, they have the means (if they ever choose to take it) to get control of their lives and turn their lives around. If they don't, the fact that they spend it all is also beneficial, as it increases business for surrounding businesses, increasing the need for low level retail jobs and giving more people who *are* actively trying to enter the economy the stepping stone they need.
Ma told me when "101 Dalmatians" came out, the results were tragic an comical - they are not kid friendly but people wanted them like all get. Humans are crazy.
And because of their breeding, a full 10% are completely deaf, with an additional 20% being partially deaf. The AKC recommends killing deaf dalmatian puppies and if a breeder sells you one, you're supposed to take it back to be "destroyed" and be given a new puppy. It's awful.
@@fwuffy_cloud I think Disney had to include a disclaimer when Finding Dory came out, that people should not buy blue tangs for their kids, because those fish doesn't reproduce in captivity and every sold one comes directly from the ocean. And overbuying it could lead to endangerment. Also the same happened when Harry Potter first came out, that some stupid rich parents bought a snow owl to their kids... People can be fucking stupid.
I mean at least Dalmations are one of the healthiest purebreds there are. They are only Slightly more susceptible to hearing, Allergies and urinary tract issues, and even that is only an issue with irresponcible Breeders.
I can confirn they are NOT kid friendly. My parents got one when I was six and my brother five. She growled at us kids constantly and pinched us with her teeth as soon as my brother and I played together. She was a sweetheart with my mom though. But my parents gave her to a dog expierenced friend. We later learned thag the former owners kids beat her up with a broom on a regular basis :/ Poor thing . This only added to the fear driven aggression towards me and my brother. She didn't know better.
I owned a pekingese - a breed similar to a pug, featured near the end of the video: the 'best in show' winner - she was the sweetest little thing, and we all loved her dearly, but she suffered various health issues throughout her life that were often debilitating, despite numerous vet-prescribed medications. Respiratory issues, numerous eye problems, a skin condition. It broke our hearts when she passed, but much like losing a very sick family member, there was a small comfort in knowing that she wasn't suffering anymore. The dogs were breed in China as status symbols for the very wealthy ... humans are a sick species.
My last dog before she died was an Australian cattle dog mix, no one knew what breed so technically she was a mongrel. She was a healthy dog, (though when we first got her she had a cold.)up until the very end when she got a leg tumor. I miss her a lot. She would often try to herd us into the living room due to her instincts as a cattle dog!
@@samaustin339 sorry to hear your loss mate. We recently lost our Shepard dog aswell ( don't know what kind of shepard he was, but he looked like a black Wolf) atleast he made it to 15 years. Then we also lost a german purebreed shepard that we picked up from the street. We didn't know how old he was, but he was abandoned and belonged to a Dutch family that lived in a town 50 KM from where I live and he was at the very least 8 years old as his last veterinary visit was 2011. He was the kindest and loving dog you could imagine, though we don't know at what age he died, atleast he found a loving family and pack 'till he found his end.
Mine is the collie. Preferably rough collie. I love them, but sadly the ones that aren't purebred have health issues such as bone problems and sensitive skin.
there is a movement working to breed pugs back to their original form. Not a big fan of pedigree breeding but I wish them much support. my family has had a few pugs while I was growing up and they have all been the sweetest friends a kid could have.
My first dog in the 60s was a pitbull....nothing like todays! I've been against breed standards for years. Now. My best friend is a Toy Fox Terrier....with hip dysplasia! He such a beautiful dog! But I'd trade all his good looks for a good hip!
Do you mean the typical today pitbull or the american bullys? This "breed" is the next breeding failure... i have seen a xxl bully live (at the vet, and the owner said he is a walking vet bill) and a videos/ pictures of pocketsize bullys... a nightmare! I think it may not be the worst idea to have a dog with pitbull looks but without the high drive... but to create the next frankenstein, putting all the worst traits from french and english bulldogs together and pour it in something more or less pitbull like? Its disgusting
Crufts doesn't health check as much as they should, they let a dog with syringomyelia enter and WIN, and the owner knows that they have this genetic disease and still let them breed and pass this horrible trait on. Sorry about the rant, i'm very passionate about this subject.
@@entiendemierda3849 pedigreedogsexposed.blogspot.com/ the people behind the doc still run a blog, too. And hey look, the latest post was about pugs and how the Dutch KC are allowing outcrossing and other measures to fix the health problems. Wish our kennel club would do that.
Someone brought their pug to my parents house when I was a kid and I was extremely concerned for it because of it's breathing. I was a very honest and oblivious kid and I unintentionally called her out for getting this dog from a breeder. She laughed.
My one pug (I have three) was abused before we rescued him because he was “too dark” and they wanted his fur to come out lighter... He’s adorable and I’m mad because now he’s deathly afraid of water because they sprayed him for being “imperfect”
I know their ears have a fold in them, but otherwise they’re pretty normal. I’m not sure the ear fold would cause them pain though. Although munchkin cats are an abomination (the cat equivalent of a dachshund where the cat’s legs are shortened and the cat can’t jump or climb as normal). As a dachshund owner I can’t say much, but we only have our dog because our uncle’s dog had puppies, we wouldn’t buy a dog from any breeders.
@@Taongcc scottish fold issues: Osteochondrodysplasia, a developmental abnormality that affects cartilage and bone development, Polycystic kidney disease (PKD), Cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease. I'm guessing they say constant pain because of the Osteochondrodysplasia. Some cats like LuLu fron Creamheroes are folds, which this disease that affects their bones and cartilage can make it painful for the cat to walk. LuLu doesn't do this standing pose as often anymore due to meds, but to alleviate the pain they stand up like meerkats.
Lest because they have an autosomal dominant disease called Osteochondrodysplasia. This mutation causes the cartilage to harden, their tails harden, and they have horrible arthritis. Folded ears = diseased cat. The breeders will tell you a lie that “mixed” scottish folds (british shorthair x scottish fold) is “healthy”. But as I have told you, the disease gene is autosomal dominant, if the ears fold, it’s sick. Breeding scottish fold is unethical.
