personally with snakes you dont have to water them more than every 2 months, but you gotta make sure you absolutely soak the soil at least once every 2 months, you could also water it once a month tho, maybe even 3 weeks. they like water they just dont necessarily need it too often. Good luck with Your snakey Summer

i bought my snake plant 4 years ago, and when i bought it i repotted it into a very large 1.7 x 2 foot pot . Since then it has grown in size about 300%, offshot several pups that have outgrown the mother. Just like any plant I guess, they like space to expand

Ive had snake plants like summers. Its due to neglect of watering on my part. What I do is I take out all the soil rinse the roots and put it in water. It has much faster recovery for me. Some of my snake plants is in water for months and their growing fine😉.

I would usually get rid of the droopy or yellow dry leaves and plant them in new potting mix... The substrate i use and the snake plants are doing great in there is normal potting mix + perlite + vermiculite + compost + river sand.

Hey Summer! I’ve got a ZZ plant that I put in a Southeast facing window sill and it got too much direct sun. It’s leaves lost their shine and lustre, and they started curling. I moved it to a shadier area and a month ago but the leaves haven’t recovered. There’s no burn on them but they are just dull and curled. Will they come back to normal? I water it once every 1-1.5 months. And it’s growing new shoots so it’s not dead. Thanks for your help!!

The only thing I have managed to ‘grow’ is algae in my pond. I got my first snake plant at the weekend. I now have dry brown crispy edges on a lot of the leaves. The leaves otherwise feel nice and waxy and look healthy and not droopy or wrinkly at all. Soil is dry to touch and I’ve spotted two fruit flies. From what I’ve read there’s a bigger danger of over watering than under watering. I’ve only watered this once and only a tiny bit. The fruit flies seem to be a sign of rot which will be made worse by overwatering. Do I hold off watering or not? Are the dry edges likely from underwatering or from pests?

I saved some of my snake plants which had some brown parts in my garden (I live in Bali island) and potted them about a month ago. They look fine at the terrace, but brown parts remained. I wonder if I should cut those brown parts or cut the whole from the bottom of the leaves? BTW, I’ve been learning a lot from your programs, although I live in the other side of the world. Thank you.

i like planting in thin plastic containers, like the ones you get as default pots on most plants at the store. I cut slits down the pot from top to bottom every 6 inches or so around the pot, as well as a bunch of holes on the bottom of the pot, allowing the soil to breathe easily. Doing this You dont even have to use perlite as long as you dont overwater too much

I would be very interested in a video about soil mites. I'm struggling currently with them. I don't know if they are really soil mites. They are in the soil, on the pots and sometimes on the leaves. The plants are looking fine, but there are so many mites 🤯
@NN-fz4pd
@NN-fz4pd 3 года назад
I have some soil mites in one pot that I watered too much. They love moist environments. They look like tiny white crawling insects that move pretty fast for their size. Is that what they look like for you? Anyways they are harmless and they help breakdown stuff in the soil and leave the plants alone. If there are too much, maybe watering less will help control their populations.

I'm actually editing a video about soil mites now. I don't think many people are aware these even exist (in houseplants at least), cause there's little info about them and they look like specs of sand/debris if not moving fast. I ended up repotting all of my plants. EDIT: you said they're in your Hoya pots, what does your potting mix consist of? If there's bark, they may be feeding on that. If you could sift out the bark and replace with something else, that might help.

I hope this is ok, I have a question for anyone who might be able to answer. I'm having trouble finding info online about this. I have a large sphagnum moss propagation box set up with scindapsis cuttings. The other day I checked and saw small white spider mite looking pests. This box is kept at 99% humidity though, and I was under the impression that spider mites didn't like humidity and wouldn't develop in high humidity environments (that's what google says at least). Does anyone know what these could be? Could they be spider mites? Would adding air circulation with a small USB fan in the box perhaps improve my situation? I treated the plants inside already, but I want to make sure the situation is under control before removing my propagations from the box. I would hate for it to spread to the rest of my collection. Should I take any preventative measures for my other plants to be sure it doesn't spread? This is the first real pest issue I've had. Any advice is appreciated!

Question, I received a snake plant that had some broken shoots (leaves?) so I cut off the broken portion. Where the cut was made from the original leaf will that continue to grow? I've had conflicting answers online about that, some say they won't and just use a green marker on the cut so it matches the rest of the plant and other sites say sometimes, but rarely, they will continue to grow. What is your opinion on this? Thank you.

This video is perfect timing for my snake plant. I've had it for quite a while. Although it is green, it is very droopy. Mine is so droopy I thought our plants might be related. The directions that came with my snake plant said to give it 1 cup of water every two weeks. After watching your video, I am going to change the pot from ceramic to terra cotta. Then I am going to give it a good soaking by adding the water more slowly. Then allow it to dry between watering. That should resolve the droopy leaves. Thanks
@flowergirl8887
@flowergirl8887 3 года назад
If you don't mind me giving my 2 cents, you should never measure the water. you just water until it drains out the bottom, that way you know the root ball is wet. If you just add a cup of water only the surface of the soil is wet and the roots are dry.
@rebeccaguyton8687
@rebeccaguyton8687 3 года назад
@@flowergirl8887 I agree with your 2 cents worth. Being a new plant mama I followed the directions that came home with the plant. Now I have a droopy snake plant. That won't last long. I am going to move it to a terra cotta pot and allow the plant to dry between watering. I'm confident it will recover now that I have a clearer understanding of the problem. Thanks for your 2 cents.
