What's Wrong with Wrestling Camps?

I ran at least 20-25 weeks of traditional wrestling camps; long, grinding, grueling. All this hard summer training for what? Kids just wanna have fun. And technically they need to keep improving during summer in a progressive manner. The current structure of wrestling camps offers none of this.
Thats why we are taking the sport back to Vermont. Green Mountain Wrestling Camps by the Wrestling Coach are going to be the change that's needed in Americas Summer Camp system.

most wrestling camps are dumb because they're just super conditioning which is useless because you'll sit around the next few weeks and lose it.. Technique camps are super good for the summer

The point of a wrestling camp isn't to have fun and be outside and go fishing or hiking or kayaking. That would be a summer camp. Wrestling camps are for wrestling.

can't tell if you are being sarcastic. There is plenty of time to both improve wrestling and have non wrestling related fun during camp. Also, if your kid doesn't find wrestling in itself fun, why force them to do it at all? What the other commenter said is spot on, too much focus on conditioning is pointless because conditioning goes as quick as it comes. And conditioning improvements are what the focus is when working at high intensity. You can't think clearly and learn when working that hard physically. The time and place for physical intensity is for contest prep.

My coach at Univ of Maryland used to say save your money and just practice one move all summer. Every summer practice a different move. Camps teach you 100 moves you will never use
