You asked a good question about what to do if you notice that your milk supply is decreasing. I'm assuming that you're pumping because you do have a milk supply but it's decreasing to less than what you'd like or less than what you've had in the past. It sounds like you're working and pumping while you're gone. If you're nursing your baby when you're home that's also a good thing. In order to increase your supply there are a couple of things you can do. First of all, milk supply is normally a supply and demand type of thing. The more you nurse or pump the more your body will produce. If possible, while you're at work nurse more frequently. If you normally pumped every three to four hours try to pump every two hours if that would work with your work schedule. When you're at home with your baby if you are nursing, nurse your baby more frequently or pump more frequently when you're at home. Also, if you are nursing your baby at any time nurse your baby and then pump for an extra ten minutes past the actual nursing session and that will help stimulate your body to make more milk as well. Do this for about five to seven days and hopefully you'll notice an increase in your supply. During this time also be very conscientious about how much water you're drinking and every time you nurse or pump drink a glass of water and that will also ensure that you have enough liquids in your body to make the milk that your baby needs. If all else fails and you still notice that your supply is low it's okay and definitely possible to mix formula with breast milk. For example, say that you're noticing you're not making as much milk in the early afternoon hours. That happens to a lot of moms where they feel like it just kind of drops off. So if you have to give your baby a bottle of formula at that time but you can nurse or pump and give your baby a bottle of breast milk all the other times then that's totally fine as well. You will notice that your body will totally drop off and probably not make milk at that time of the day but that's okay. As long as you can keep up supply, like say in the morning and at night before your baby goes to bed then you're still giving your baby breast milk during the day and your baby is still receiving benefits from it. I hope that I've answered your question and if you have any others for me be sure to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.
