Two reasons why the Angels don't let Ohtani go. He gets wins for the team on Pitching/Hitting (no brainer), but also more importantly for ownership...he rakes in the cash from fans in US and internationally. Getting rid of Ohtani will lose so many fans and the stadium will resemble an Oakland A's home game. The team is just one or two good pitchers from being a contender. They are really close. Lets see what GM does. Good luck Angels.

@mirikaku5811
@mirikaku5811 Год назад
You’re right. But it was different years ago as they thought they could build around Trout and they failed. The 2-3 first years of Ohtani was TJ and knee surgery for Shohei and 2020 was virtually gone with Pandemic. When 21’ started, Trout was off whole season, Rendon as well. 22’ Trout had back issues and slump and Rendon was gone..’23 so far, Trout and Ohtani is actually playing together perhaps for the first time this long.(still no Rendon) Time has flown. Trout is still one of the best player and sure HoF BUT starting from NOW, he is no longer a Prime for trade the way he would have been before 2021. That boat has sailed. Having said that Trout is still the top bracket in the league and if he has a support cast definitely he can get that Post season and even beyond. But trade is difficult.
@yamamancha

@russellchung3119 Год назад
Trading for Ohtani at this point isn't worth it unless you get young proven guys with control plus a prospect package, which I don't think is happening (especially when you assume they are in wildcard contention by the deadline). The Angels are in for a long rebuild anyway, so a haul of prospects that isn't guaranteed is just not enough and even a package with proven guys heading to FA like Will Smith and Urias plus prospects is not enough. Also, the Angels right now are heavily reliant on players on short term or expiring deals and if you trade Ohtani they are gone. I think the best bet is to stick it out and try to get to the postseason (and try to do some damage in the postseason). Remember, we don't know what he wants and Minasian probably has the best idea of what he wants. Ohtani might be willing to sign a short deal with high AAV if he thinks he can win with the Angels, which I think they can if they can show FA that they are good enough to make it to the postseason.

First of all, from the Angels' perspective, what would be the point of making the Greatest Trade in History (say, landing 7 All-stars and a Cy Young winner) if all of your fans suddenly abandon you? Which is what would happen if they traded Ohtani. Halos fans don't care about contending; they're quite used to not doing it. They want the Unichorn. Second, from Ohtani's point of view, what thrill of winning as a team could come from getting air-dropped onto a stacked club? The stisfaction of winning alongside teammates comes from starting with the hand you're dealt, and building and striving from there; the worse the initial hand, the greater the joy in prevailing. Lastly, the sporting press and geeked-up fans - ever thirsty for gossip and drama - have blown up beyond all proportion a rather unremarkable remark made by Ohtani last year (in response to question) - the mundane comment that "winning" is important. Has any player ever said he/she Didn't want to win? If Ohtani's remark was intended as a signal (and It's not at all clear that it was), it almost certainly would have been directed at the Angels' front office - an exhortation to keep improving the roster. He'll sign with the club that gave him his start, that made accommodations for him to work, train and develop in his own way and at his own pace (it took four years for him rise above mediocrity). They've got the money. And they're 6 games above .500 at the midpoint - in line for a playoff spot.

Of course the reason they don't trade Ohtani is money. But you hurt the organization more, baseball wise, keeping him. They know they would've gotten an absolute HAUL for him. With this trade the Angels GM can turn one player into 7 players in an instant, and if you trade Trout as well, you'll turn 2 players into 14 or 15 players, half of which might be major leaguers already. THE RIGHT BASEBALL decision was to trade Trout and Ohtani and reset the organization for 1 or 2 years and then rebounding strong in a division in which Houston is weaker, Oakland is non-existent, Seattle doesn't know how to win and Texas' bullpen is weak (anything can happen). But they rather sell out for one year and make these mediocre players richer like Rendon and Anderson.

Terrible take. Let’s start with the ridiculous playoff projections based on current pace. Yankees ain’t winning 89 games 😂 They’re 8-10 since Judge has been out and he’s not returning until August or September, if he does at all. Yankees are out of playoff contention unless they make a trade. So that means Angels would be one game behind the Astros for the last playoff spot and two behind the Blue Jays. Mike Trout has been slumping and starting shortstop Neto and starting third baseman Rendon are both projected to be back in the next week or so. Despite this, Angels have the third highest scoring offense in the AL behind the Rangers and Rays. Angels biggest weakness is the garbage bullpen aside from closer Estevez. Estevez is 4th in saves in the AL. Starting pitcher Reid Detmers has put together a few solid outings and now has a 3.77 ERA which is below the 4.18 league average. Sandoval has regressed but his era is still below League average at 4.16. Ohtani is still a stud at 3.13 and top 10 in ERA and pitching war in the AL. Angels have a solid shot at making the playoffs and if they just trade for a few decent relievers they would be a good team.

What a terrible take. The Angels are in contention for the first time since years. You have Ohtani, you have Trout. Sure, you are not the favourite to win it all but if I'm the Angels, I am making moves before the deadline to bring in talent. Trade for pitching etc., just to be competitive this year. Trading away Ohtani - with whom you always have a chance - is giving up on the chance that he stays. Plus, why does everyone think that the Angels have amazing offers on the table? No team that trades for Ohtani knows for sure that he re-signs with them. THus, the offers will be good but I doubt the Dodgers, Mets, whoever, wil give up their entire talent stock for a few months of Ohtani. Considering that, the Angels would be foolish to give up Ohtani for a "good but not great trade offer" when they are contending for a wildcard spot.

If your goal is to win the WS, let a team like the dodgers or Yankees blow their load on him and send tons of prospects
