Force feedback is a crucial aspect of the simulation experience in sim racing.
It refers to the tactile and force effects transmitted to the driver through the steering wheel, providing a more realistic feel of the road, car dynamics, and other environmental factors. In simple terms, it's the connection between you and the car 😁
This video will try to give you an idea on what you should be expecting from the force feedback and how much of it is actually usefull/sufficient for you.

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been looking to upgrade to a DD but was not sure about how much power I needed. Like you say I want to feel the car and not get worn out after a few laps because the weight/NM is so high. I’ve wanted to hear from someone who has race as a pro to state where a good middle ground is compared to a real car. Thanks you once again

Just starting the vid now but I have a 9nm and it definitely isn't enough and wish I had more but dealing with it for now as been going threw alot lately and can't afford it .. to be honest I'm just thankful I'm still here to even be able to play racing sims lol

So what did you think at the end :) Yeah, 9Nm is not enough for people who require that extra strength and higher dynamic FFB range.
@chotus69
@chotus69 7 месяцев назад
@@eRacingAcademyyeah still feel the same way. I am always running the 9nm as high as I can to the point I'm just starting to clip if something major happens as I like to feel weight behind the wheel but then if I hit the wall or something I will have no input as it goes beyond clipping lol. Maybe in the future I'll be able to upgrade for now I'm just happy to be sim racing again after my brain surgery a year ago, I'm still not working and just got to a point recently my eyes and body can handle it. My vision and process of fast moving objects have been out of wack and I use VR. but I think once starting it has helped my progress in real life as the g forces in real life mess with my head still but vision side is improving 👍 All that was prob pointless but just kinda came out 🤣

I suggest turning feedback frequency to 0 and going down on both smoothing and feedback detail. All you're doing with these settings is adding delay and introducing spikes which you then filter out. The tooltips mostly lie and don't say what it really does. Probably need more damper too, but it'll depend on how the PID params are tuned. I know Mini needs quite a bit of damper for a realistic-ish PS feel. They all have the same chip so I don't think the sliders are actually different per wheel, but I could be wrong. I use 40/40/20 on damper/friction/inertia in AC, ACC and RBR. Of course real hydraulic damping or EPS damping function are not like the wheel driver damping, so it will depend what part you're actually paying attention to.
@eRacingAcademy
@eRacingAcademy 8 месяцев назад
Hi there, thanks for sharing you thoughts on this topic!! Generally we have been avoiding that type of setting (we tried again now to make sure) as the lower setting smoothness just creates a lot rattling that does not feel natural. We don't particularly always want to feel every single bump or ripple on the road and with that low smoothness setting, it's just noisy and we don't think a DD should be that, especially when most of the race cars we drive on these sims have hydraulic steering system. The high damping, inertia and friction just make the wheel much heavier (harder to turn in and turn out) and lazier when a FFB is received. It feels duller as it is much harder to feel the Dynamic FFB fluctuation and range. We don't feel any delay that doesn't feel right or unnatural when the smoothness is at a higher setting As we said in the video, FFB settings are totally subjective and we prefer feeling the weight of the vehicle and it's rotation speed through change in direction. Other drivers may prefer other feelings with is totally subjective. Unless you are driving a go kart and want that feeling then I guess you would go for a very raw setting. But hey at the end of the which ever setting makes you quicker and more consistent wins :)
@ArchOfficial
@ArchOfficial 8 месяцев назад
@@eRacingAcademy Well, if you are setting them up for esports/feel then sure, but I'm speaking more from a simulation standpoint. 3-4 smoothness is fine if you run "detail" at 0. Like I said, detail introduces spikes, which you only need high smoothness for because you introduced them. 0% effects is not a "kart" or "raw" feeling; karts probably have more friction than pinion gear setups. It's not as simple as "fx = fake".
@eRacingAcademy
@eRacingAcademy 8 месяцев назад
@@ArchOfficial Hey again Arch! From this conversation, it is a very obvious fact that we both like our FFB set up in a different way which is probably the best thing about this topic being so subjective. There is no right or wrong cause you are not happy with our setting and we are not with yours :) For us FFB settings is a process that involves a lot of calculative trial and error in order to find the FFB setting that you feel most comfortable driving whilst getting the feedback you need. For this reason sometimes going according to the books may not help. Something similar to vehicle set ups, some set up changes you make would not apply to the real world but somehow they work amazing in the sim world. Coming to to the kart setting, you normally tend to feel all the bumps on the road as there is no suspension, and that the tyre diameter is much smaller than a road car tyre making you feel all the bumps a lot more, meaning you get a lot more road feed back. So technically if you wanted a more kart style feeling you would lessen the parameters that dampen and smoothed the FFB. I, Jason, respect you comments a lot and can not judge you for what you are saying as I do not know you or your back round (seems like you like your control systems :) ) but I can only comment and share my knowledge on my experience in real racing, knowledge in vehicle dynamics combined many years of sim racing and professional driver training. But hey this is the virtual world and rules are different (like in the Matrix :P ) and again the stopwatch wins :)

@eRacingAcademy
@eRacingAcademy 8 месяцев назад

Hi, Can you please explain what mechanical inertia does, if you are using it and how much percentage? can you also share your baseline settings for gt3 on simagic wheel bases? Thanks! :)
@eRacingAcademy
@eRacingAcademy 8 месяцев назад
Hi there!! Inertia is basically a parameter that simulates a type of additional weight to the wheel. More inertia means more weight but also that leads or means that you require more force to actually stop it rotating. It is something you should adjust with different wheel sizes or weights and it is something that will differ depending of vehicles. Too much inertia can lead to loss of detail during cornering and also unwanted oscillations. For that reason you need to be adjusting the damping also to get the most natural feeling. Does this make any sense at all? The settings you see in the video are for the Alpha U and honestly it is a good baseline for both LMP2 and GT3

Hi there, Simagic specific, whats your take on WRS? Everybody seems to not like it at 100 and use around 20 to 50. But for me if I not use 100 the wheel feels lazy and its like everything is in slow motion, is this very wrong?
@eRacingAcademy
@eRacingAcademy 8 месяцев назад
Hi there :) As we always say, FFB settings are subjective as you adjust it according to your preference. We always like to adjust the wheel at around 80-100 percent and control the strength from the game settings. We do this with nearly all of the wheels we have tested and used. We know what there are people who prefer the complete opposite as you said but we can only say this is a preference. There is not one right or wrong, it is more about what you want to feel. Also if you feel the wheel is lazy, maybe you need to decrease the smoothing, damping and friction and playing with the spring and inertia also. This is very obvious to say but a slow, heavier and softer can will respond later and feel more lazy compared to a GT3 or single seater so we recommend trying all types of cars.
