Those are the kind of Trent videos that I tend not to finish up because the fire was lit at some point mid-video and I gotta get shiet done lol, thanks!
I'm still on the road of working on my fundamental art skills, but I love seeing these videos from you, always very insightful of what it really takes. I appreciate you sharing your experience. This is some valuable and really cool content. Thank you.
Yay, Trent Advice video! I always note down all the pearls of wisdom you have to share, they help a lot! (specially for indies like me that goes on pure self-taught routes)
Haven’t finished the video yet, but 1:30 to 2:15 is some of the most useful advice I don’t think I’ve heard very often when it comes to voice and expression. I replayed the segment because it resonated with me. Thank you for that.
I started doing animations for indie games for few months now including sprite animations and fx animations and def loving it! Thanks for your insights! Always been an inspiration
I can really attest to the importance of making something small before aiming for an ambitious goal. The reason I failed to learn guitar was that I insisted on learning Dream Theater songs before I could play a simple 3-chord progression well. 😅
I just learned you gave voice to Kyle from Final Fight Streetwise, I had that game when I was a kid and I totally loved it, Kyle's voice was so badass haha good to hear your voice again mister
Indie work vs. Big studio work is a catch 22. Both only want senior level talent. You're gonna have to lie about your resume to start. Portfolio however, you cant lie about
@TrentKaniuga worlds changed. There is no such thing as a junior artist at a company anymore. Hell, I don't even see interns anymore. Why you see people applying to thousands of jobs
@@hawktondog you really could do yourself a favor and listen to the person with much more experience who is trying to help you. NEVER EVER lie about your experience, it will come back to bite you 100% of the time, and no one wants to work with someone that is untrustworthy.
Trent's right. As Gothmog in Lord of the Rings puts it. "The age of the AAA is over. The age of the indie... began". But in all seriousness now, thanks for all the grounded and down-to-earth content you create, man. It's amazing
Hey Trent! been following you for years, I've been doing tons of concept art lately, but I have a 3d modeling class in blender and I really like it. I was wondering if you could do a video on 3d modeling vs concept art. I really like concept art but I've also become super interested in 3d modeling. I'm curios on the differences in the gaming industry as well. Thanks Trent love your content, you've helped me tons!
Hi. Thank you for sharing your experience. I know you’re building for your goals, but your info is so useful knowledge (for me at least). I purchased couple of your gumroads and they are blast. I am learning a lot.
1:04 - Trent, what's the name of that software, shown in the image? ( not Photoshop, but the actual image in the canvas. It looks like a game engine, but I'm not sure which one. ) Thanks :)
You gotta make a video about that Streetwise promo comic you did 20 years ago. Also, have you read UDON's Final Fight with fabulous art by Matt Weldon?
Your videos are inspirational and discouraging at the same time. At least you don't try to sugarcoat the incredible hardships that await you along the way of building your reputation in the industry. I was going to do some painting tonigh but now after watching your video I thought fcuk this I'll just go back to play Far Cry :)
If i want to be a concept artist. How should I layout the art and information. What page size/resolution. Is there a standard way to organize the layouts?
How would you go about just being disciplined to learn? I’m starting my art journey and I am drowning in the deep end with college courses. Basically the courses aren’t even giving me the basics and are telling me to make 9 panel stories and whatever else. So I must have taken the wrong class when it just says “color theory”
Learn figure drawing and do the comic at the same time. Dont wait to be leonardo davinci before creating something. Also as trent said, read a lot, it is the superior way of story telling by very far, it stimulates your imagination.
Can you elaborate on why you should choose GameMaker over Godot? Is it the current controversies going on? Because usually I hear the opposite. I had even considered moving over to Godot to try and learn it as well. I could swear you said you left GameMaker too, right? Due to limitations?
Why not Godot? I legit just started learning it as a complete beginner in programing so I'm just wondering if I should switch now before its too late lmao
@@eduardobarboza9499 As a beginner myself, GDScript is fairly easy to learn as programming languages go. I've also played around Unreal and while Blueprints is simpler than C, it can become a mess of nodes on the mid or long run so it pays to be extremely organized from the beginning, probably just as much as one should be organize with coding.
@@debmalyamitra353 I really don't care about the political issues Godot found itself in thanks to a big misunderstanding with the CM and the community. The engine is pretty good. Tho I do have to say that from Godot 3 to 4 there was a huge change in things and honestly you gotta be careful now with old tutorials because they're outdated now and there's a ton. That's my main concern with it. And I rely a lot on tutorials because I'm an artist above all else so once I tried to code with ChatGPT because a bunch of local developers advised it... UUUUUUH BOY was that a bad idea XD apparently the AI was updated on the documentation for Godot 3. Not 4.
Hi Trent, in October 2021, I left a comment saying that AI was going to take over all the jobs for artists. I said this because I am a software engineer as well as an artist. You responded, "Is that why everyone I know is making so much money? " I still think about that.
