Taylor Mali's inspirational poem cleaned up a bit (aka censored) for a teacher's inservice audience. Original show by Ethos3.com located at www.slideshare.net/ethos3/what...
Goose bumps every time I watch this. I'm the daughter of two teachers and I jump at the opportunity to learn whenever possible. THANK YOU TO ALL TEACHERS OF ANY SORT FOR SPREADING KNOWLEDGE. NEVER STOP.
Taylor Mali inspires me to be a teacher. I want to share this with everyone who has ever discouraged a teacher or a person from becoming a teacher. Teachers are so important!
Wow! What an inspiring video. I was starting to have doubts about going into teaching, but this reminds me of how rewarding it will be to have a positive effect on children.
I burned out after 4 years of teaching, and I'm home with our youngest child. If I watch this everyday until he goes to kindergarten, I think I can go back in the classroom. I remember why I was there and I love the good parts. I can do this again. Thanks Mr. Mali!
One of my favourite person in the world is my english teacher from junior and senior years. He was simply amazing. He made us think, read, reflect, be ourselves and be proud of ourselves. I truly believe he made me a better human being.
My teacher for my "teaching as a profession " class showed us this today and told us to be quiet close our eyes and just listen. Then we were to watch the screen on mute. This is a very powerful video to end a class with when all of the students want to be a teacher.
Im not a teacher, have never wanted to be a teacher but I have always respected my teachers. Watching this video sums up why teachers should be respected.
Taylor Mali is awesome. He reminds me of the all my favorite teachers at the same time. The world would be a better place if more of them cared like he does.
I keep replaying this over and over and over again. Its a reminder of why I am a first generation college student in my family and why I want to become a teacher. Great video. Absolutely inspiring and eye-opening. :D
@Gleeekin Thanks. I've been posting his original version on FB off and on for about a year now and appreciate this version sans the middle finger - the fist still drives home the point. Thanks again for the edit - it's superb. Perry
My English teacher for two years of my high school experience is that kind of teacher we lack of in this American society. We need more teachers like that.
Thank you! Whenever a child is behind, it is so easy to blame the teacher. We as teachers have no control over the level of proficiency of students entering our classrooms. We many times have to undo years of neglect on the part of the parent, in order to bring these kids up to grade level.People always are so quick to blame the teacher for everything, we do not create problematic students, whether it is behavioral or academic, these students come to us that way!
I love this . My teacher showed us this on the first day last year and this year . I came home and had to listen to it again because it was so encouragingv.
Thank you, dear person, I am a junior attending school in Hawaii, and my counselors, teachers, and even my siblings (one is a lawyer hahahaha) said that I shouldn't teach because its a dead end job. And they will never get it. I want to do it for the future generation, because that is what we will become. I love it all the same, so thank you :)
I wish I could have had a teacher like this in school. As a gifted girl with ADHD I was stuck in a place where I understood the material quickly, then tuned out of the conversation for the rest of the day. No teacher cared enough to offer any supports or understanding of my difficulties, educational or emotional. I say emotional because recess was constant bullying. Everything I have learned was in spite of my teachers, not due to them. Teachers like Mr. Mali are one in a million.
I am a teacher and my husband a principal and THIS is a powerful message and he hopes to show it at the next teacher in-service. Its very inspirational and be-a-u-ti-ful!!!
I LOVE this! Although I'm a substitute teacher, I desperately needed to hear this knowing that I am still making a difference with the kids I work with...even if they are just small ones.
Wow! This reading is terrific. It actually brought tears to my eyes. It grabs me emotionally and psychologically. This poet expresses a teacher's passion. Yes!
LOVE IT!!! as a first yr teacher this is such a great motivating poem...i love the play on words and i absolutely love how he describes perfectly what being a teacher is all about...encouraging students to achieve their full potential and being that difference in their lives...its a great reminder wen ur having a shit day... and if u dont like the poem or its msg heres a couple of great suggestions for u...a) dont watch the video...he is sending his msg to teachers...he is reminding us of why
Wow. Wow. Is all I can say. My niece is attending college to be a teacher and one of her professors steered her to this fine example of what teaching is supposed to be all about. Kudos to the teachers. Them that teach, do MORE!
teachers are the first role models in our lives right after our parents. teachers teach us not just what they are supposed to, they also teach how to live life. some of my high school teachers taught me life lessons i couldve never learned anywhere else.
Lol I showed this to my mom who was a teacher and she loved it, so true that we give teachers te least care and appreciation and they put in the most time for students
I absolutely love this...well said!! We Teachers must Rise against the odds!! It's not the job itself but the awesome reward that you see the children receive when you teach!!
Now this is my kind of teacher. Teachers who are actually PASSIONATE and LOVE WHAT THEY DO AND DO IT RIGHT. I get so pissed when I sit in class and try to listen to a teacher who clearly doesn't care for what they do. Teachers are as vital to a person's formation as their parents.
Teacher's have changed my life. They have influenced me to aim higher, care more, and believe in myself more than I ever thought I could. I volunteer with kids, and I can damn well attest to fact that teachers do indeed change them. They change kids more than their parents could hope to, because a lot of the time, they aren't there. So every time I hear a snarky question about my dream, I will NEVER walk away or shrug off the ignorance, because it will be my job to prevent that.
I always used to give teachers a hard time because I was always pushed hard into getting A's. After seeing this video I now have a respect for teachers and I realize that they are pushing us so we can excel later on in life.
LOVE this, it's a real shame teachers don't make as much as they should. There are few who actually have a passion for it nowadays because of poor pay but i was lucky enough to have had some of the most wonderful teachers who molded me into who i am today. TEACHERS DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE in a child's life.
@Gleeekin I completely appreciate that you care enough about the minds you teach to ask for permission to edit. I do not see this as shutting down an artist or a poet as you have not burned the orginal. For those who are concerned with an author-sanctioned edit, they simply need to push another button to watch the original version :-) You've done a wonderful job! I thank you for your heart toward your students!
My father was a passionate teacher in an inner-city school. He once jumped into a fork fight in the cafeteria, because he knew no one else would--and is still a friend to his former students 20 years later. They learned more than how to jump through the hoops and take a test from him, they learned how to be honorable, thinking and empowered adults. Teachers are often more than just educators, even if there are those who seek to turn our schools into nothing more than another bureaucracy.
Wow! This gives me a new respect for the teachers that made life hard and work challenging. I always got the best grades in the classes that I had to work hard in.
Teachers do inspire and motivate. As a teacher you must have balance in your classroom. In a class full of first graders I must MAKE them do a lot of things that they don't want to do but I also inspire them to be creative. In the real world they must work in groups but they must also learn how to think for themselves.Yes,Put your hand down. You know how to do this.Sit in silence because in many work places you must be quiet some of the time.Students have to be taught what the real world is like.
