Claudia's activities and curiosities present continued challenges for Louis and Lestat. Her actions light an explosive fuse that erupts at episode's end.
Based on Anne Rice's iconic novel, follow Louis de Pointe's epic story of love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to the journalist Daniel Molloy.
Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, or simply Interview with the Vampire, is an American gothic horror television series created by Rolin Jones for AMC, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Anne Rice. The series follows the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) who recounts his life with his maker Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and teenage vampire Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles) to veteran journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), accompanied by ancient vampire Armand (Assad Zaman). The series embraces the homosexual elements of Rice's work, which are only insinuated in the 1994 film adaptation of the novel. It is the first television series in Rice's Immortal Universe.
Interview with the Vampire received a series order in June 2021, after AMC Networks had purchased the rights to intellectual property encompassing 18 of Rice's novels, primarily The Vampire Chronicles, in 2020. The series was renewed for an eight-episode second season in September 2022, ahead of the premiere of its first season on October 2, 2022.
The first season received critical acclaim, with praise going towards the writing, tone, costumes, soundtrack, production values, performances (particularly those of Anderson and Reid), and chemistry between the two actors.
Adapted from Anne Rice's 1976 gothic horror novel Interview with the Vampire, the series centers on the life story of vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. An affluent black man in 1910s New Orleans, Louis is romanced and later made a vampire by the charismatic Lestat de Lioncourt. But the price of immortality is steep, and the relationship between Louis and Lestat is further complicated by the introduction of Lestat's newest fledgling, the teenage vampire Claudia.
Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac
Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt
Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy
Bailey Bass (season 1)[a] and Delainey Hayles (season 2)[6] as Claudia
Assad Zaman as Rashid/Armand[b]
Ben Daniels as Santiago (season 2)[7]
Recurring
Kalyne Coleman as Grace de Pointe du Lac, Louis's sister[8]
Rae Dawn Chong as Florence de Pointe du Lac, Louis's mother
Chris Stack as Thomas "Tom" Anderson, the owner of the Fair Play Saloon, an upscale brothel
Christian Robinson as Levi Freniere, Grace's new husband[9]
John DiMaggio as Alderman Fenwick, a businessman looking to take advantage of Louis
Jeff Pope as Finn O'Shea, one of Louis's enforcers
Dana Gourrier as Bricktop Williams, a prostitute who works for Louis
Maura Grace Athari as Antoinette, a blues singer who becomes romantically involved with Lestat[10]

Hey guys! Unfortunately the song that plays during the credits got copyright claimed so i had to switch it out. I know it’s a bit random but hopefully it isn’t too bad.

This episode is controversial but for me its the perfect reminder of the predatory side of a vampire, not to forget that their nature is violent and inhumane. what i like to say "it's a love story between monsters!" Bruce's introduction, Lestat's savege attack, and Claudia's serial killer phase, it's all monster instinct, and that's why louis is so fragile, he's fighting this instinct. in the words of the devil himself: Embrace what you are, you're a killer louis

Wonder if we will ever see Bruce again next season or future seasons? imagine Louis comes across Bruce and kills him for what he did to Claudia.

honestly the situation is very messed up, very toxic, but i can’t help but find this dynamic so fascinating. lestat and louis love each other. they really do. lestat is continuously looking for love and companionship from louis, for comfirmations that he loves him. but at the same time he (lestat) can’t be completely honest and open with louis, for a milion reasons. and the more he lies and manipulates the truth, the more louis gets emotionally distant, and the more lestat cheats and lies, in a neverending cycle. and claudia is not a saint, she knows that perfectly well, and she uses that to manipulate louis in her way. and so lestat hates her and resents her, because he sees through her bullshit when louis absolutely cannot, and becuase he knows perfectly well that she’s the only person who could take louis away from him. and so louis gets even more distant and lestat gets ever more frustrated and the toxic cycle continues. the last scene was just an explosion of all of this. as i said, i love this dynamic, not because i find it good and healty but because it’s so dramatic and cinematic and fascinating.

Overall, Interview with the vampire is peak queer romantic fiction. It has everything a normie watcher wants or rather relates too which is the whole queer regime, toxic relationships, romance, gore, mystery and most importantly........... it's vampires! Lestat is like Klaus (Personality wise) from the originals but gay while Louis is like Elijah but without the strategic mindset that Elijah has and but is more gay. Not sure if you know the originals or not but it's also a vampire series

Claudia is so much more unhinged in this series than the movie because they aged her character! I wasn't a fan at first of that change but as the show progresses I actually kind of love it, because the actress does such an amazing job of portraying her!

The fight scene was sad because you could tell Louis was stuck in the middle and didn’t want to choose between his husband and daughter. Also, do you know why Lestat bit him? The last time he bit him was in episode 1, where they were intimate, and they levitated. But I wasn't sure if it was meant to weaken him, so he has no choice but to stay and heal, or do you think he wanted force a “physical” connection? I know they haven't been intimate in 5 years, and Lestat said " I choose you".

In the book vampires dont have physical sex. So when they bite each other it is seen as the equivalent. So with that in mind this could be seen as a sort of sexual assult.

Okay, I've been suspending disbelief, but no WAY would a 1920s cop look back & forth between these two men and talk about their "daughter" @8:04

there are other small inconsistencies... like the black star line mentioned in ep 1. That cruise line didn't come out for a few years after that scene took place.

The traumatised women-child, the conflicted father/husband, and the insecure mentor/lover - that was one brutally explosive family reunion! And just like you said, while it's horrible to see an injured Louis taken skyward, the night sky backdrop is almost romantically presented while Lestat begs to be 'released' from his feelings for Louis - and I think that shows both how ugly AND beautiful things can be between them! But no truer words were spoken than Lestat telling Claudia that it was never her that he wanted! Two more left.....

I think after these first two seasons Lestat will become the main chracter of the show. In the book series after the first book Louis's perspective is done and it becomes about Lestat.

They're vampires. You can't judge them from a human standpoint. These two are pretty dysfunctional during this phase of their lives but they're also inevitable soulmates. They fight as hard as they love but they keep coming back to each other in the books. Also... FYI, this never happens in the book. Lestat even says he would never hurt Louis or Claudia, he loves them both so either the writers took some liberties or it didn't actually happen the way Louis says it did. There's just some things in his interview that does not add up. Anyway, Lestat is not going anywhere, rest assured.

I always keep in mind that we see Louis's perspective only. It makes me question everything, especially everything concerning Lestat. Louis is, indeed, quite an unreliable narrator.
@fizzychizzy
@fizzychizzy 8 месяцев назад
@@alexie5201This event was included in Claudia's diaries which means is actually happened. We have a primary source from that time. Claudia was equally upset with Louis and Lestat for so long. She wasn't going to lie in her diaries to make Lestat worst at this time compared to Louis...maybe later, but not at this time. The event happened. Full stop. The question is how brutal was the fight and was it as one-sided as it was shown. But they definitely fought and Lestat definitely left Louis horribly injured after the event.

The writing in this episode is INSANE. it really shows the writers have the guts to do anything. Like, you said it's hard to watch etc but it all makes sense. At some point they really had to reach this bubbling point. Love to hear your speculations about the next plot. So I hope no one will spoil it for you. But AMC has released the teaser trailer for season 2. So would you consider reacting to that after you finish Ep 7? I want to know your speculations as well
