@@jcar4522 It's kind of strange. I also have a X-H2s with the newest firmware and the AF-C works absolutely fine. Here and there a miss, yes. But nothing which could make the camera unusable for me. I've seen a lot of videos about the messed up AF on Fuji and I understand that this is a no go for a professional. But for personal use I don't really see a problem. Maybe it's just me.

We need more videos like this! More fuji users have to start talking about this issue. Especially for video my xh2s is basically unusable for autofocusing. We are not getting gear for free. I ve been saving for half a year to buy a piece of gear I was hoping it would be an improvement over my xt3 and this is what we get. Moreover fuji's complete silence on the issue is so unprofessional.... Such a shame really...

My problems with the autofocus doesn’t even involve auto-tracking. I went to an arboretum the other day to photograph flowers. I had the X-T5 in AF-S mode since I didn’t have a moving subject. The camera would not focus properly within the AF box. What the heck, the latest firmware update now has compromised shooting of still photography. It’s the first time I’ve had a problem with the X-T5 having focusing issues in AF-S mode. These weren’t even “false positives” images. The camera’s autofocus wouldn’t even give me a green box AF confirmation when focusing on a single, subject flower. I noticed that my focusing box was placed directly on the flower while the camera focused on the background space. Recomposing the scene and half pressing the focusing/shutter release button did not help. I was well within the minimum focusing distance. It felt like the camera wasn’t even trying to acquire focus from the green focusing box. Soon after, my camera completely froze with a black out screen. I took out the battery to reset camera. Focusing seemed OK after that. I suspecting bugs in the new update.

Many years ago, I was a Canon shooter. I didn’t like how slow the improvements were and how many features we wanted were only attainable through Magic Lantern. Then came Fuji who had all the features I wanted at the time but, moreover, the firmware updates they provided for new AND old cameras were game-changing. And, at the time, the autofocus was on-par with dslrs. Now, these issues are a really big deal. They have to know that. I hope it gets better.

Perfect commentary. Loved my Fuji cameras. Latest X-H2S had me happy for a whille. But I've been photographing action a lot and Fuji has gotten terrible. Its as though they created algorithms akin to throwing darts as a prediction. Absolute garbage. I gave up. I bought the R6MII, leave all the AF settings in full auto, and get nearly every shot in focus. And that's with the inexpensive RF glass regardless of the type of AF motor. The Canon also adjusts the ISO when it senses a flash attached automatically and increases flash power with a locked in/low ISO (not to mention adjust the EVF output). The X-H2S would not do this. Fuji crapped the bed.

It's not just AF and supply that's the problem. Also a lot of quality control issues and more cheaper things on the cameras in general. All this together really speaks for a quick profit company and not like they used to be.

Very reasonable take. I'm glad to hear it's not just me. 😎 If I'm brutally honest, I don't think Fujifilm AF has improved since the X-T2, nor the IBIS since the X-H1. They've certainly added a bunch of UI elements with eye recognition boxes and many false positives since, but ultimately I have a hunch they were just relying on faster processors to supply more than a 2% improvement generation over generation. That said: I'm not expecting much from my Fujifilm - it's a toy, so I might be more forgiving. It's like Leica to me, I'm here for the fun, engaged, tactile experience of missing the shot. 😂

Agree with all your comments. And it's become worse; in the beginning, it seemed it was "only" (haha) restricted to continuous AF, but recently I have been experiencing problems with single AF as well. I was shooting last week at a skydiving event and my XT5 literally could not gain focus on the divers walking (slowly) to the plane, in bright daylight. I had to turn the camera off and on again to refocus; of course, by that time, the shot was gone. My son (who shoots professionally with an XH2) lost focus while filming a classic car driving past, very slowly and missed an important shot for a client. It's really too bad, because I like pretty much everything else about my XT5: great colors, raw files, and shooting experience (except AF, that is). Why can't Fuji get this right, while ALL the other brands can - even the tiny Olympus brand. The XT5 is pretty much back at XT2 level, which is ludicrous. I'm invested heavily in the Fuji system with a dozen or so lenses, but if Fuji does not solve this within 2024, I'll be switching brands; possibly to Nikon Zf. Disconcertingly, Fuji does not even take the trouble of announcing an update and promising to address this. In the meantime, I've switched off face detection and eye detection, and rely on single point focus with the joystick. This helps a bit, but should not be necessary of course.

@catlike1
@catlike1 2 месяца назад
Don't think their problems with supply are so much about intentionally creating artificial scarcity. The main issue is photography and consumer products are now a relatively small part of their company's business. Most of Fujifilm's income comes from health care and business products and services. So, they probably aren't devoting as many resources to camera making as in the past. Second, their xtrans sensor is unique and they depend on Sony to manufacture them. As a relatively small Sony customer, they perhaps do not get the priority that the larger customers get.

If anything the fuji native lenses are part of the problem. After some testing with some street and sports photography over last few weeks and I now find I only use the Viltrox 27mm or 75mm Pro lenses. They hit sharp with almost every shot. That versus the fuji 23 1.4 and the 50mm 1.0 which shoot sharp at about 50% of the time. When they hit sharp they're good but so unreliable versus an aftermarket brand. On another note, I bought a used Nikon D850 that came with a single beat up lens and that shoots sharp focus 95% of the time. I've loaned it out but once I get it back I think I'll keep the fuji xh2 with the two viltrox lenses, sell all the fuji lenses and use the cash to get some more to fit the d850.

@rakov1 2 месяца назад
@@80nigena - for me, the two PRO lenses are just brilliant. The shots are sharp and detailed. I'm using the fujifilm xh2 and I can crop deep into the pics and get worthwhile pics out of those. It's as if these lenses were designed to actually resolve that 40mp resolution and the AF seems to work better with them (more so on the 75mm than on the 27mm ...but still better than on the fuji 23 1.4). The fuji lenses do take great shots but only in less dynamic, more posed situations, and still with a lower hit percentage than the Viltrox.

im not too sure on the scarseity as I believe almost all of the camera manufacturers have said issue (for lenses at least). An example I will provide is I placed an order for a 70-300mm xf lens and I waited about 10 days before I could go and collect it. My sister just bought a sony a7v and received the body about a week to 10 days later, however she ordered three native lenses at the end of June and as of writing this it has been about 10 or so days and the other day she received an email notification saying that her order is being delayed with no predicted time line. I just think the industry is growing at a faster rate than what the manufacturers can keep up with, and with all of them having such a large variety of options they just haven't scaled up to match the market. (this is my opinion not fact).

Been using a a used z7 II with z 24-120 f4 S with the z 40f2 and have found it much more reliable and inspiring for how I shoot. I don’t need the latest AI tracking AF, just basic reliable AF and the Nikon can do that but my X-T5 frustrates me with native primes way too often. Long ago I came to the conclusion that Fuji cameras are only good for static subjects. If you're shooting anything that moves use a different brand, even a 10-15 year old DSLR will give you a better hit rate. Fuji fans always blame the user, focus settings or that you have the older lenses and need to upgrade. I have the very slow AF old XF56mm f1.2 and was told that I'd notice a much bigger improvement with the AF on the XF90mm f2 as it had the much better linear focus motor. The 90mm still hunts far too much, it's slow to AF and has a poor hit rate of around 50% on a slow moving subject. I love the image and build quality from Fuji lenses, their customer service with repairs is excellent and puts Nikon's to shame, but having cameras that cannot achieve a better hit rate than 50% on slow moving subjects at just 3fps is unforgiveable. Even my 14 year old Nikon D700 can achieve a hit rate of at least 80% with single point in AF-C mode, I've yet to find a Fuji get close to that.

the issue is that adding assembly lines is not a cheap and quick process. Sometimes artificial short term hype might not be enough of a factor for a company to open new assembly lines. So it makes sense to bring the film simulation demand towards existing cameras and leverage on the existing assembly lines to ensure some level of quality. But as for the Firmware update screwing up and AF... thats totally Fuji's fault.

I saw this coming several years ago. I stopped buying fuji (after 6 bodies and 9 XF prime lenses) after my X-Trans III cameras. When I saw the X-E4 and X-Pro-3, that was the moment I realized Fuji is losing their way, and sure enough, issue after issue where I thank my lucky stars I quit when I did. But the best thing about it is that all my older Fujis recently went up in price in the used market. I saw my workhorse daily carry the X100T go from [at best] $400 not even a year ago to selling for $1029 in lesser condition than mine.... THAT tells me that people are frustrated with Fuji and their quality quirks on top of availability and are paying top dollar for all the cameras I still have in the X-Trans I, II and III, all Made in Japan. Glad I hung on to them. I may sell them all except for my X-Pro2 even though that is going for more than I paid but it's is imho Fuji's best camera ever made.

i've lost my faith even being fuji-fanboy since 2019 and using my beloved xpro3, once i became a father and my kid started to walk and run - i tried to stick to xpro3, but it's suuuch a paaaain and even with a native fuji glass i wasn't able to stick to him with AF (even my ricoh gr3x is doing better AF job, who could tell), so i sold it and i got leica sl2s, the camera everyone is giving hard times because of the "slow and unreliable AF," BUUUUT seems like all of these people who's ranting that sl2s has a bad AF just didn't shoot with fuji cameras, i mean... the sl2s gives me pics in focus 99% of the time where xpro3 even don't shoot because it can't focus on anything, i miss all the SOOC shots that i may take and still could continue to take, except pics of my kid, my personal needs changed so my camera

I had the same problem with the AF on an XH2 a year and a half ago, though sounds like it’s got worse. I sold all my Fuji gear after frustration with the AF and went to the A7CR and the sigma I series lenses. Though Nikon are appealing now their AF has improved and they offer better screens and EVFs.

I agree. I use the xt4 for my personal stuff but I wouldn’t dare use it for pro purposes. Exactly because of the AF. I can’t depend on it which would make it pretty risky and tedious. I still use Canon since it’s very dependable and hardly misses the mark. If I do miss it it’s because I make the error. It’s such a pity because I really enjoy the xt4 results.

I bought the x-H2 for a lightweight landscape alternative so my expectations have been thoroughly met. I have never expected any of my previous X line cameras to be Canon R5 AF accurate. Unfortunately Fuji jumped into the high spec hybrid market, something they are not and probably will never be at there price point. They should leave that to the Big 3. (Nikon z6iii kicks ass)

Funny…I’m coming to Fuji from Nikon because of all the production problems with them. Issues with hardware, defective sensors, Z6iii “locks up”…..something is going on with camera manufacturers these days. I have never seen a new Nikon camera in any of my local camera shops for at least a year, and I’m in a huge city, so this is not a solely Fuji problem. I get my XT-5 this week, and there are two of the colour I didn’t want in the shop on the shelf…..

Yeah used to have an Xpro 3 in 2020 with the official m mount adapter. Loved the 27 2.8 but preferred manual focus. I also got increasingly frustrated with fujifilm and saw them losing their way more and more. Sold my xpro 3 last year for more than what I paid for and got a leica M10r. Not saying leica is better it’s kinda apples and oranges and depends alot on what you use it for but the crop and corner performance with my m mount lenses always bothered me. Also never used my xpro for video. Kept that ef x20 flash tho.

Have you considered Panasonic? I always loved Lumix G (m4/3) but once I was able to afford an S5 (now I have an S5ii), I haven't been interested in any other camera. Downside? Bulkier and Heavier system. Upside? More predictive autofocus, video specs punch above it's weight class and you can now install live LUTs for photos and videos. So you can also get your "camera recipe" fix. This is also coming from someone who considers Fuji my second favorite camera brand. Like you said, they're just super behind with performance at the moment.

They themselves have admitted that its better business to have out of stuck X100 cameras rather than to bunch without being sold. They are taking advantage of the TikTok trend for nostalgia. Once that is over, we will see how it goes for them. I looked all over Tokyo back in April for a used Fuji camera and only found out one store. The rest of stores had plenty cameras for all other brands but Fujifilm models only were the most recent ones, and in some cases none at all. I love my X-T5 but its sad to know that firmware can screw up the AF so bad.

the artificial scarcity issue is driving me INSANE! Gives me no confidence especially if you break something or need something in a pinch. And yes the scarcity of that pancake lens makes zero sense. One of the same issues why I switched away from Pentax even though I loved them for years. For them scarcity was less an issue as was lack of innovation and not staying as innovative as the competition. Seriously considering switching over to Nikon.

I hoped that the update would have improve the AF behavior but it is still annoying. I think it is the most important improvement point for their cameras. I look forward for upcoming AF updates, hoping that it will improve otherwise I'll think to change for Sony.

I think Fujifilm should sell the APS-C and medium format divisions to a company what will provide photography solutions instead of products. Fujfilm could then concentrate on the money-maker called Instax. The company seems to be wandering without a strategy that serves the professional and semi-professional photography community, and I think the huge profits they get from Instax drives them in a direction that isn't helpful to non-Instax users.

It’s not artificial scarcity. Fujifilm’s manufacturing capacity cannot keep up with enormous and sudden worldwide demand. It appears that they are trying to ramp up, even bringing up factories in China. I understand your frustration, but it’s not artificial. Their autofocus does suck, I postulate they are having to learn the hard way, much like Nikon did, that mirror less autofocus technology is different; much different. As an engineer, I can appreciate the technology that is required for all these things to seamlessly work and have much respect for Sony, Nikon and Canon for the progress they have made. I think Fujifilm will get there, but it may take some time.

I placed an order for the XF150-600 on B&H when it was "backordered" and on SALE and I got a shipping notification 1.5 weeks later...so they are producing. I agree they need to nail the AF in the next generations of XT and especially the XH lines. However, I've been having a blast with the 150-600 on XH2S and the bird AF has been working great for me. I'm going to buy the X-S20 as a backup camera.
