Just wait for the price for next Supernote. Getting in from Europe is super expensive because of import taxes, that's a HUGE obstacle for the development of their sales.

I have the Go 10 and nomad .. and I love both of them, they both have unique features. I lean closely more to my nomad. I love tech and worry about my wallet when new devices come out. main reason why I went with go 10 is because ratta delayed their release date to the a5x2… what attracted me to Go 10 is because it has that remarkable “design” … my wallet worries when the a5x2 comes out though lol

If Ratta can get that A5X2 out soon they’ll be the only ones with an 8” and 10” device that are essentially the same. That’s a huge positive for me. Remarkable doesn’t have multiple sizes, Boox does but not the same device. Other companies are underestimating the importance of getting to and starting notes quickly. It’s not a notebook replacement if I have to click, click, and click some more just to start a note. I was on the fence about the Supernote because the lack of a light but that quick access menu finally sold me. If Boox releases an 8” Go and Ratta isn’t close to an A5X2, I may have to switch. For as long as Remarkable keeps that ridiculous subscription they’re not even a consideration for me.

This is a great video and analysis. Actually, I think Remarkable and Supernote are really both safe. When I watched some of the early reviews, it take a lot of work to make it a minimalist device because of. The over complicated Boox software. That being said, if you want Boox software on a Remarkable - like tablet, this could be the one for you. Just my two cents. 💯 agree on all of the Supernote points you mention by the way.

I got into this about 2 weeks ago not knowing anything about e-ink devices other than the remarkable 2. A whole world opened up and now watching and trying to figure out if i made the right decision. @rantsabouttechnology from my understanding there is SD capability? Also I do like the size as I need it for travel. I just received my Nomad. I got it with the both the HOM2 and standard pens, but I immediately returned the HOM2 -- I don't need a fashion statement and taking the cap off every time just didn't make sense. That said, the Nomad was intended to replace two Boox 7.8s - a Nova Air 2 and a Mini C. Theoretically, the Boox allows more Android apps and functions, but the interface in the Nova Air 2 is glacial and ends up being AA (almost Android). The Mini C is a bit more Android-ish, but if want a fully responsive Android tablet, my Samsung Tab Active5 (8") is miles ahead in speed, display, and functionality. I also have the Boox Note Air 2 Plus (10.3), but it has the same Android experience as the smaller ones. Boox piling on more Android capabilities seems to me to just demonstrate why more Android is not better Android, especially in comparison to the range of Android tablets and phones out there. I'm selling the two Boox 7.8s as soon as I can, and am looking forward to the A5X2.

there's a lot of good reasons for using cartridges on the n64. first of all, they're way faster. that's why load times were way smaller on the n64. second, despite the ps1's CDs having a huge storage capability (hundreds of megabytes), it only had 2mb of RAM, meaning you could only load a tiny fraction of the disc at any give time. the n64 cartridge on the other hand had 64 megabytes of storage per cart but could load double (4mb) or QUADRUPLE (8mb with the ram expansion pak) of that game content at any given time. this is part of why n64 games look so much better. frankly discs, besides being available and cheaper, made little sense at the time. even with CD quality audio much of the available 600mb disc would have been empty, or filled with soundtrack or extra game audio. it's true that the ps1 sold about triple the amount of consoles as the n64, which only sold about 30 something million units. but i think this is due to a variety of factors not really relating to discs vs cartridges. if discs vs cartridges DID have an impact, it was merely an effect of sony marketing, and nintendo's failure to combat the narrative that discs are "better" discs are not better, merely different. if the ps1 had 8mb of ram instead of 2, or if it had 2 or 4mb of vram instead of 1, discs would be an entirely different story. if i had to pick two reasons the ps1 outsold the n64 it would be these: first it came out a year and a half earlier, when people were really looking for a new console to replace their SNES or Genesis. In conjunction with that: the ps1 was making a lot of games that would feel familiar to games of the previous generation, especially big beautiful sprawling RPGs. Nintendo with the N64 spurned a lot of japanese developers to focus on the western market, creating new kinds of games and driving old nintendo fans to other consoles. sorry for the rant i dont necessarily disagree with your point i just wanted to throw this out there

Dude, this is the place for tech rants, lol. You came to the right place :) Thanks for that summation. We may never really know exactly why CD beat out cartridges, but don't discount the power of, "cheaper". It's a powerful motivator. And like we now know, Nintendo came out of it just fine. I didn't know about the RAM being an issue, so that adds another big piece of the puzzle for me. Thanks again!🙏🏾

@@rantsabouttechnology of course, thanks for taking the time lol. yes i think now we're certainly in an era where games are massively huge and ram is cheap and games use every inch of the disc space and then some, and of course being cheaper is a huge plus. though nintendo is still using carts in the Switch!

Totally agree on your points and even more on the Quick Access Menu part. That is why I stick with Supernote Ratta. That menu is really important in organizing my activities and my profession! What I usually find awesome about the quick access is the following. I create a main file for a subject, say Spring choir 2024. In that main file, I have the list of all the links to the pdf of the partitions. So, when I'm in my choir practice, no need to navigate in the system, just open the quick access menu and access my main file for the choir and navigate through my list of links. I used the same logic to access all my notes for my classes I was teaching. A total game changer!!!

How’s it going to compete with the Go when you can’t even buy a 10 inch Supernote? AX5 hasn’t been available for months and AX52 will not be out until Q4 probably. Could you imagine Boox not having any 10 inch devices in their shop? I doubt the quick bar and screen film is enough for Ratta to make any gains in the marketplace. The Boox Go is $379. The A6X is around $475 after pen and case is added. The A5X is going to be, what, at least $575? Ratta ain’t worried? They better be.

The Go will steal a few floating customers I'm sure, and in 12 months there will be a lot of Go's sitting idle on the bookshelf because their development will all be on the latest device they have released. If you have experienced Ratta as a company ask yourself, would they release a device where, when you plug in an external keyboard, the shift key doesn't work? For those of us who rely on our devices for work I think 90 - 95% will wait for the A5x2. Ratta are just a better company who care about their devices and their customers. My guess is the delay is based on the availability of the 10.3 inch screen, man quarter 4 isn't that far away, especially when I have a device in the A5x that is perfectly adequate for my needs.

@nubbinthemonkey
@nubbinthemonkey 3 месяца назад
@@nbamford03 my guess is after the delay announcement at least 10-20% of those waiting for A5X2 went and bought something else like a Scribe, Kobo color, Boox note air, or RM2. With the Go announced, I bet another 10% at least cave and buy a Boox. If you need a device for work can you really afford to wait for months with no definite release date set? Also June 30 is next week. People are going to buy any device and claim it on tax as a work deduction. Yes, the Supernote is going to be better but it’s 1.5x more expensive and if the Go is even 80% as good then it’ll be a no-brainer. Boox has 3-4x Remarkable’s number of employees and RM is a billion dollar company. Ratta has got to be smaller than RM and they don’t even have inventory. I seriously think they should worry.
@nubbinthemonkey
@nubbinthemonkey 2 месяца назад
@@nbamford03 Ratta never let any bugs through? What about the top menu icons not working properly with touch input on the nomad? I remember one of the reviewers showing it worked fine with pen input but not their finger. And wasn't there an issue with the quick slider thing? In general, I would've thought Boox firmware is updated at a faster rate than the Supernote. Also, many work users would likely have made some kind of purchase before June 30th as you can deduct work expenses from your tax bill. Ratta missed the boat on that, for 23/24 financial year anyway. In an ideal world I really would like a Supernote but I have to worry about budget and I'll actually need a device in the next week or so. I bought and returned a scribe and I'll probably get the Go 10.3.
@steverolfeca
@steverolfeca 3 месяца назад
I think that Supernote’s biggest advantage is actually the Nomad architecture. Beating the EU’s upcoming deadline for replaceable batteries instead of putting it off ‘till later, will put them way out front on the hardware side. Their biggest problem isn’t Boox, but their inability to execute. Their community-based approach to software development has created an enthusiastic & loyal user base, but most of the requested new features are in limbo. And now it’s nigh on 6 months that they’ve been without a product in the largest-selling 10” segment. If the reMarkable 3 drops before the A5X2 and it’s a hit, SN could be in real trouble.

Thanks for another fun and chatty video with loads of good talking points. ;-) I may politely disagree with your point about the quick access side bar on the Supernote: While I thoroughly enjoy to use it on my Nomad, I deeply loathe that it links only to 8 items, so I constantly have to decide which important PDF or book or note I want to trash in favour of one I will also be needing the next days. On the Boox platform you have the favourites/most recent as one of the three menu items in the notes and library view (maybe you need to toggle from the clock to the star if you cannot see it at first, which is weird because on devices in all sizes there would be more than enough space to just show all 4 icons in that place, which is so ... like Boox). On a 7.8" device this gives you 9 notes and books max. to access with one tap in the respective apps, on 10.3" and 13.3" devices there are 12 items always on top with that (you could fav more, but then you would still have to swipe through the library). For me this fav-mark (or "pinned items", as it is called on very old devices like the Max2) is a worthy equivalent to the SN quick access bar, and one that gives me even more items to access so quickly. I prefer that, as apparently I need about a dozen to 15 notes and files I regularly want to have on top and accessible with one or two taps, 8 definitely is not enough. As often, there is not really an inherent "better or worse", but approaches that work better for you and your "tech thinking".
@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 3 месяца назад
I see what you're saying about the Icons at the top of the Notes app. The problem with that is that the notes you want to get to are at least two maybe three button presses away (back out of note, select list if its not already selected, then select note). That is unless I'm missing something. The Quick Access bar is a one-click, equivalent, away. The 8 file limit sux royally though. Thanks for stopping by.

@julieparadise9694
@julieparadise9694 3 месяца назад
@@rantsabouttechnology But ... big BUT! ... if you always switch between your notes on the Supernote through the sidebar/quick access and not make sure to every once in a while leave a note by tapping the "back-home" icon on the top left (the one with the two bigger boxes on the left and the 4 lines below each other on their right) you run into the risk of building up too much temporary file waste, as those temp files are only discarded and the file properly saved this way. (With Boox it is the same: Hit the small arrow on the top left to exit a note, with the only difference being that Boox often tells you it is saving the note now.) THis is also what makes some notes that you add to and add to and add to without ever properly leaving become huge in file size. So, if you diligently exit your note "the proper way", the other notes are as many taps away as that. What always get forgotten, though, is the nifty "recent files" both systems have (on the SN it is the clock icon on the top of the side bar swipe down). But, here again, I find Boox more practical: You can assign a gesture to access this "active apps" thing and also lock apps/files to not get closed when you need to release RAM.

@rantsabouttechnology
@rantsabouttechnology 2 месяца назад
@@MitchellPierson And that was my point, it's not like the SN Quick Menu system. But not even just the note "headings", which is another advantage, I meant the quick menu access to notes where you can store up to 8 frequently used notes and easily jump between them. There is a menu at the top of the notes app (on Boox products) that you can jump around notes with, but it is at least two more clicks away than the Quick Access menu on the Supernotes. Not only that, the Boox menu shows you all notes, favorites, or recent ones, which could be dozens of notes. The quick access menu on the supernote is just 8 of your most used notes, so easier to find, and just a swipe away. You have access to your notes within the notes app on Boox devices, but it ain't quick, they don't have anything remotely close to what the SN offers. And honestly, this is all up to what you consider "quick" lol. We all could be right frfr.
