Hakka people have a reputation for being prepared to fight and for defending themselves, and have some very well known military heroes and politicians and businessmen etc.
Hakka people produced many great famous people such as: Sun Yet Sen,Deng Xiao Ping (CHina), Lee Teng Hui , Ma Ying Jiu (Taiwan), Lee kwan Yew (Singapore),....
Deng Xiao Ping (CHina) is not hakka people, Ma Ying Jiu (Taiwan) is also not, he come from hu'nan of china(中國湖南)。 an other charman Hu Yao Bang(胡耀邦) should be hakka man, he comes from hu'nan liu'yang(中國湖南瀏陽) 。
I was raised in Karachi, Pakistan a city where many Hakka people immigrated to several decades ago. There are now 2nd and 3rd generation Hakka people living in Karachi. They have opened many restaurants in the city, which locals just call Chinese food. One of the things I missed most when I moved to Toronto in 1998 was Pakistani-Hakka cuisine. Luckily shortly after Frederick's was found followed by tons of others. Now Toronto and surrounding areas boast tons of Indian/Paistani-Hakka restaurants in every neighbourhood. Since a majority of their customers are muslim most Hakka restaurants serve halal food by default.
Thanks for the comment! If you're able to give me the information for some of these restaurants run by Hakka Chinese, I'd love to hear about them. On my website, www.HakkaChineseFood.com, I've been compiling a worldwide Hakka restaurant list so it would be great to add some Pakistani representation. I rely on word-of-mouth for many of the restaurants outside of North America.
Wow, what an interesting information. I would like to try those restaurants when I visit Toronto one day. I am hakka myself but living in Denmark. I have family who migrated to Canada too, although I have not met them before. One of my best friends is pakistani and he also introduced me to pakistani food, and I love eating it. He would probably be just as surprised as me when he hears about this.
@@Harvey1976 It means Cantonese, Teochew, Hokkian, Hakka share same blood pride Chinese cilture & suffer where we born & live whole world, so we should unite seek better life agree? 🙏
There's a wonderful book about the Hakka in Mauritius called "The Coral Heart" by Peggy Lampotang. I recommend you check it out sometime. Here's a link to the author's Facebook page: facebook.com/thecoralheart.peggylampotang
My mother said her ancestor from Meixian capital my dad ancestor from Guandong capital, not sure why i born in Indonesia, getting lost my identity as Hakka tho.

Chairman Mao was also HAKKA. I am from Thailand, many HAKKA here, I am second generation here. 3 HAKKA Chinese also once were Thai prime minister, and one HAKKA son.in law was prime minister too.
In this day an age, especially with air travel and mixing of cultures, we're all just one big global village now. It's fun to try to make all the connections. Let's not get too caught up in all the minute details of geneology. I'm just trying to share a bit of my cultural background in a very simple way to make it easy to understand.
HakkaChineseFood I don't know any Hakka-owned restaurant. There are many Hakka people in The Netherlands they immigrated via Suriname. There are still living many Hakka people in Suriname
HakkaChineseFood there are many in Suriname 🇸🇷 I love them they are my family I’m a Surinamese Hindustani which means my roots lay in India. My favorite food is y’all food I just miss it currently living in Europe 😑🙎🏻♀️
Tong Ngin Tong Yahn Teng Nang/Lang We all share same blood culturr & suffer to seek better live where place we born as our ancestor settled down long time ago being native! 🤗🙌🏻♥🏮🌐
My ancestors are Hakka, but I know nothing about it. At least I have the adaptability when not only travelling but also settling down in different countries. (Seriously, no one in my family wants to transfer Hakka cultural knowledge to me)
Wow, just looked up where Sabah is because I wasn't familiar with it. Looks incredibly beautiful! You're lucky to live in such a picturesque place. Thanks for commenting!
I'm from Sabah too, I read it's the only place in the world where other Chinese coming hare would have to learn To speak Hakka. It seemed so when I last lived there, I left in 1985. I live in LA now.
yeah but since hakka is are more old language than cantonese, there is such thing because thats where most of the cantonese words come from but it's called Cantonese Hakka because cantonese is more of a popular language around China.
I wish Chinese descent whole world Cantonese, Teochew, Hakka, Hokkian should have one formal non profit organization to share development as same blood same Chinese culture mix with local we live within + suffer from different cases countries to seek better live & not being discrimination (like fucking malaysian constitution) cause Chinese descent not stupid & bring boost development! 🙏
Some parts of your video are not very accurate description of the Hakka. A lot of Hakka people are christians. The word Hakka was officially used by the Ching empire to identify and register migrants from the Central plain to the south especially coastal parts of the south for fear of rebellion forces brought back from overseas! because of family registration the term Hakka was used.
Interesting suggestion, thanks for alerting me to this. I had never heard of the Hmong people before. But after looking it up, they do have a lot of similarities to the Hakka. I found this information about genealogy of the Hakka which suggests there is only 13% She (or Hmong) within the Hakka DNA: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14577381
It's similar but it's not the best comparison. The Hmong are an ethnic group. The Hakka are a linguistic/cultural group within the Han Chinese ethnic group. The Hmong are not the majority in any country, but the Han are the majority in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Singapore. The Hakka and Hmong also have no linguistic or cultural ties. The last sentence in the link you provided is also a bit iffy as it suggests that the Hakka language is not a Sinitic language to begin with, but instead a Hmong-Mien language. This couldn't be farther from the truth. The Hakka language is a remnant of the Chinese spoken during the Tang dynasty (Middle Chinese). It's more similar to Gan Chinese, Yue (Cantonese) Chinese and even Min Chinese. If there is any Hmong influence in the Hakka culture or language it is extremely minimal.
Thanks for watching my video and making a comment. When I described Hakkas as being nomadic, I was basing it on the definition that "nomads" are a community of people who move around and live in different locations. Just curious, what makes you disagree with this description?
The definition of nomads is that they are a community of people moving around with no permanent home. Hakkas move to escape war, famine, other disasters in search of a permanent home. The various provinces in southern China are already Hakkas permanent homes as they have settled there for centuries. Of course, from there, some have moved on for better pastures. They will settle down instead of moving on like nomads who do not intend to settle down.
爱客 Yes, I agreed with your comments. However; some Hakka moved to the Far East such as Thailand, East and West Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei. Thereafter, some also moved to North America from these countries, and to other countries of the world. There is why Hakka are all over the world.
"hakka" have two speech, one is "hak ka",an other one is "kak ga"。
Honestly, I was just trying to exaggerate it and pronounce it extra clearly for the purposes of the presentation. As a result, the pronunciation is anglicized. Didn't mean to offend anyone.
There's a dozen variants of the Hakka language out there. Just because it doesn't pertain to your specific dialect it doesn't mean it's wrong. Likewise a Texan cannot tell an Aussie that his English is incorrect, because they're simply different variants of the language.
Hey, I lived in the Seattle area for a few years in the north end near Edmonds. I miss it very much. I never was able to find any Hakka restaurants there but had to go up to Vancouver to get my fix. Hope you're staying safe and not inhaling too much smoke these days!
Two different words expressed by two different characters, which are indeed both pronounced differently depending on the language: 鶴 (鹤) = crane 客 = guest
Hal-kka Mal- kka means can we do it or not do it. Find out Zhougguttle Empire invaded the En empire and their fighters were sold to the West. You are fighting for not to leave others land. Your voice are so nasally and fakky. Did you have someone's nasal bridge adding surgery as well as their hair too?
