What the heck? - Scooter bogging out after half throttle, why?

So I have installed a new carburetor and fuel lines and a fuel filter. Fires up instantly with electric start and idles great. Snappy throttle response but anything over half throttle and she dies; let off and the engine comes back to life. If I hold it open she will coast to a stall. The fuel filter has fuel in it when this is happening.
I've checked the ETON CDI and both restriction wires are cut. This is just annoying now...

This is one of three things in my experience. Start with your carb. Then check your belt. If these are both fine you might have an issue with your stator

@@shaykh_0215 open it up and spay it with carb cleaner. I also drilled some holes in the exhaust, they can get clogged with oil and it messes with like the pressure waves.

How is that even possible? The spark plug gives the engine a spark to START it. After it’s started and running, why would it be the spark plug?

check your fuel filter , cdi , sparkplug and check for leaks and check carberateur

I got a new spark plug and it fixed a similar bogging down issue, the gap was too big for the arc on the plug I pulled out. I'd suggest replacing your spark plug first, it was quick and easy for me.

@@shaykh_0215 remove the carbureter. Take the float bowl off and and the jets out. Spray a bunch of carb cleaner everywhere, then put it all back together exaclty how it came apart. Some seals may need replaced. And dont drop the little jets.

I know I'm late but for anyone still wondering, previous owner on my SR had a smiliar issue - bike ran fine and revved fine but bogged when moving, sold to a dealer for cheap as he couldn't be fucked to fix it. The dealer told me they replaced the barrel and piston but to no avail, and turns out it was the crank seals that were the problem. I'd give them a check, and don't shy away from it all. 50 2 smoker engines are cheap to repair, and if you need to replace the piston for whatever reason in the future, i'd reccomend just getting a 70 kit as they tend to be able to cope with the ragging these 2 strokes usually undergo .

I honestly can't imagine how crank seals could cause this issue. I'm not a 2 stroke person so I can't be certain. What task does a crank seal perform that could cause bogging under load?

@@ZCRAIZED1 2 strokes use the crank case as the air intake, so if too much air is forced in from piston and the crank seals are bad, it expands the bad points in the crank seal and cause air leaks, then if the mixture isn’t right in the cylinder it’s never going to run properly

@@Jam70cc I appreciate the knowledge. I definitely didn't know that about those engines. So as a 4 stroke has air from the atmosphere going through it a 2 stroke is pulling air through the carburetor that comes from the crank case? Where is the air inlet to the crank case to be able to supply that much flow to the carburetor? It's not your job to explain all of this. I can find it online. I am just blown away that all the fresh air going into a carburetor is from the crank on a 2 stroke. I have never worked on one but that is just mind boggling.

@@ZCRAIZED1 because a 2 stroke doesn’t have internal oil, it gets it’s oil from a pre-mixed fuel supply that has oil in it. This pre-mix fuel is fed into the carburettor along with the air and is ported straight into the crankcase, supplying the big end and small end bearings with lubrication whilst using the intake port on the cylinder wall to feed the combustion chamber with air and fuel. This way, all necessary parts have lubrication and the combustion chamber is fed with the correct air-fuel mixture. Had a similar issue, could be that it's not being able to suck enough fuel in so check u have an air vent over ur fuel cap, if not try it without ur cap or check fuel lines. Might not be but worth a check

@@jomarcruz659When I accelerate, it starts making noise and hesitating, and I can’t get it to go as fast as it usually does. I recently changed the belt and think I might’ve messed up the air filter when I did it. Or maybe the belt is slipping? Or maybe both? Or the gas valve could be clogged? It seems like it’s a little better if I drain the carb and add gas treatment to it. I think it’s a combination of some of these problems.

Had similar/same issue. Hard to tell for sure of course. Ended up being on the air intake box. The hose that comes off to let in fresh air has a circle piece with 4 holes to restrict air. That fell out during some leaning and I could not get the bike over 15mph. hills were death. Ziptieing that on nice and snug so it does not fall off again and end up on the road next time

Clogged main jet. Take off the bowl on your carb remove the main jet clean it. You must take it out so you can clean the entire thing not just the center hole. Reinstall. Also make sure to clean the housing it lives in as well. It's easy to do and should fix the problem. Also you may need to shim or adjust your needle valve.

I’m having the same issues. I did however jet up a little bit and it fixed the problem for the top end. Now i gotta adjust the quarter throttle which is the pilot jet

Sounds like gas starvation to me, go in the carb and make sure the float height is set correctly also make sure your petcock is working correctly

Carburation problem look like you are letting too much air, mine did the same and i put the stock filter and is ok now, also it can be the opposite, mai be you have a big carb and it is putting too much gasoline... you have to tune it and see

I loosened my gas cap just a bit. It sounded like a type of vapor lock and wasnt getting enough gas. Tried a few things. Loosened it just a bit and it roars its 49cc behind right down the road.

You need to adjust your air/fuel mixture mate. If that doesn't fix it you either need a new, bigger carb or just clean it

i have this problem also when it goes past 60 and then its slowly getting back increasing power until its okay.. the problem always happens when going past 60 either quick throttle-ing or revving slowly (sorry for the english)

Yeah this is exactly what I've been trying to find! There is not videos at all and I'm baffled on what's doing it but I may have have a clue. The first couple times it did it because when I changed the spark plug, I stripped the threads in the spark plug hole. The threads are easily stripped if not paying full attention to how your screwing it in. So I had to get the heli-coil kit to fix it and then it ran like new again. Well its been a few months now, and I changed the spark plug again and totally forgot that I put a heli-coil spring in the hole because I had rethreaded the hole. When you rethread the hole, you rethread it with a tap that is one size up than the hole so that the threads can be completely brand new and then you insert the spring into the hole which acts as the original size hole and threads. Well, it just hit me that the spring is gone after changing the plug the other day but yet somehow the spark plug went in tightly when I screwed it in. Well during the first ride after putting the new spark plug in, it bogged down after a few minutes of riding at full speed. The spark plug was loose. Tightened it up and it ran normal. It happened again but plug wasn't that loose. Now it's happening without the plug even being loose... yet I tighten it even more and I'm good for a good few miles until it bogs me down to 5mph again. My guess is that the spark plug hole has micro size spaces in the threads that cause the high compression at full speed to be released from so much high pressure..... also, I noticed the spark plug cap is missing one of the little copper bars in it that allow the top of the spark plug to snap in between them and hold onto the plug tightly because now the cap sits on it loosely. Doesn't come off while riding cause it's still slightly snapped in by the 1 remaining copper bar in the cap, but it has a lot of wiggle room. So, loss of compression and spark?

​@@donaldwoods8420 sorry late, i checked on my Sp and its all good fit, so i too tried to clean my carb but nothing changed, the mistake i made was i didnt pulled out my Sp, then saw it that time, it was so black, also searched more of this problem.. the one that solved it was its either lean or rich bog, saw some vid about this. tried to study how to tune carb, took me a week to get it normal, now my lil scoot is normal :)

If the idle screws and the Carb is fine check for vacuum leaks, it sounds too lean on the top end. Running Seafoam or Fuel Cleaner through it helps quite a bit too

mine had same symptoms. tank was filthy and needed flushed. dirt, rust etc., it was very very dirty.

Mines having the same problem, put a brand new racing clutch and variator kit on it but my mates saying it’s the not getting enough fuel into the carb meaning it needs new jets in it so I’ve ordered some 140mm jets to put in Monday but if that doesn’t fix it then I ain’t got a clue. I can only slightly accelerate but soon as I go past the point it just stops accelerating but goes back to normal soon as I let go and slightly Rev again

@@CrocodileTeeth592 yeah wi h that problem I just made a new air filter from a plastic bottle and put some holes in it and a sponge put inside. Blew my piston , so I though might aswell upgrade to 70cc and now won’t start, it turns over but makes popcorn noises and won’t start. Got fuel, compression and spark not sure what to think

If you took out the spring thing in the carb that would do that because it gets stuck completely open then let's in too much air for the auto fuel air thing.... I had the same problem but it was a lot

sounds like your main jets clogged because it only bogs at high throttle, but you should probably just clean the whole carb out (take it apart and blow carb cleaner and compressed air through every orifice and opening you can find in the carb)

2 варианта, либо маленький жиклер, либо низкий уровень топлива в поплавковой камере. И есть ещё один, капля воды в поплавковой камере, при большом разрежении в диффузоре каплю втягивает под главный топливный жиклер и мопед резко захлебывается.

Can be spark plug, carburator adjustments, vacuum/air from teared hoses, or membrane plates. - But should like it’s drowning (check the autochoker) or the spark We used to take of the vacuum hose from the gas tanks as boys, so they would run out of fuel as a prank. But sometimes that thing happened and they knew what was up!

try to reassembly a gas cable. And really clean carburetor. Unscrew all the jets. And spray in carburetor cleaner.

If its bogging at full throttle that's the main jet. Running rich but check your plug and see what it looks like. If you jet to big you may see black smoke coming out the exhaust. Depends on your mods. Or if it's stock. My stock carb couldn't be tuned. Bowl was made where you can't remove it. So got a 26mm gy6 carb and jets. I'm at a 38 jet and 110. I got exhaust and nibbi intake and air filter. They say jet up a sz or so for each mod.

Sounds lean to me. If you haven’t already: I’d pressure test your motor (6psi for 10mins), then look at your main jet if still bogging.

Feed the gas, put it on the kickstand, and keep twerking the throttle so it feeds the gas and it’ll be back new

This is what I do with mine. Got a small intake box leak, but left if for now, as it doesn't affect the overall performance and actually adds a lil bit of extra cool air which isn't so bad in the winter. It bogs like shit for the first 5 minutes of riding though and I have to basically hold my front brake and keep the throttle barely touched for it to keep the fuel fed. Mine is almost assuredly a vacuum leak, as it operates fine at temp and feeds gas fine at speed, but I'm too lazy to grab duct tape rn and am just gonna ride it for a week or two, before ordering a new box online. I hear a lotta people run their airboxes funny and these gy6's never work 100% anyway, so why bother lol.

Lack of power under load is usually due to imporper air to fuel ratio. It’s likely you are running lean as typically you will backfire under load of rich. When lean you will backfire on deceleration…. Only way you could run rich really is if you have a dirty air filter, or you have the wrong jetting in your carb. If carb is stock and your air filter is clean, you need to clean every last port and jet of your carb😉

it's the vacuum from the air filter i had mines plugged in after i tuned and it kept getting to much air i unplugged the rubber hoses from the air box filter and it stope that issue going and let the air box breathe for it self it stoped that problem to much air

Mine does exactly the same thing to. I have been all in my carb, stock air box removed. My belief on this is C.d.I. & in the cvt case. Engine on mine is fine at idle. When I’ve it on the center stand it raps so high it starts to actually spin it self. But, under load I get bogging. Up hills & on straight flats. I know the motor has power to pull because at times it does so. But, other times lots of bogging. They like lean. But, Idk if, this carb is very sensitive to weather changes or what. I keep a tuning screwdriver on mine just because this. It’s a constant daily thing. SMH 🤦‍♀️

Its just the jet holes one of them is closed so just remove carb and clean it thuruvely with WD 40 or any other sprays it will just run fine

For people looking for answers: if your scooter started to do this without you doing any changes, it could be the enricher (bypass / auto choke) not working properly. My Yamaha Jog 50 started to bog down in half trottle while riding and was only going up to 30 km/h, when I passed a bump it solved the problem! It still happens from time to time and then I go look for a bump 🤣! I need to take the enricher out and test it (if you put 12v and it not compress it's faulty, if it compress prolly is the connection from power to the enricher who has a cut somewhere).

Make sure your flap isnt stuck on the wheel, if the wheel doesnt spin itsn not getting gas into it, this litterally happend to me today, i checked all the lines, carburator, battery,oil had a lil to much oil, and it was just the flap on the tire was pushed down to far not allowed the wheel to turn

Change spark plug chuck pre mix in 35to1 and cut the restriction out of the cdi normally the green wire will be mint after that

Check your CDI unit I have this problem before on my bike. My bike was running fine but after certain rpm engine start to lose power due to misfiring or spark cut of I tried everything but finally found that CDI unit has problem with the ground wire that's why unable to rev higher.

It seems like your nozzle in the carb is either too big or has fallen out of place. Take off the air filter, take off the carb, and make sure the nozzle inside of it is not damaged.

Cdi on the italian bikes can have a limiter🤷🏽‍♂️ or carb tunning or a biger carb

Try the seal from the carb and the intake. Same happen to me. It was place on backwards from last owner. It leak air

Its the fuel filter when you give gas it uses to mutch gass and starts bogging because the carb doesnt get feul fas enough

try new sparkplug and if possible another cdi.but these has fuel supply issue.this happens too mee when i hit something on a bad road.engine starts idles but when i open throttle just bog down without switch off the engine.bubbles in fuel line?if not try also bigger mainjet and adjust the float lvl.also can be clogged mainjet.

had an issue like it with a big bore kit im assuming? it was my carb taking in too much air. get a smaller carb. if its already small get something larger. or maybe clean the carb you have before trying those 2. but from im seeing the carb is probably too large if its new.

Its aftermarket? If so this happens if you use an oversized carb and/or jet. If you flick the trottle slower is it possible to get it to run good at full trottle?

check your spark plug boot/cap on the lead when I bought my scooter second hand the spark plug was the wrong size so gas was leaking out and basically exploding my cap resulting in the spark plug lead falling off when riding at certain speeds (speeds that make the motor rumble a little to much) Fixed the spark plug lead and replaced the spark plug with the correct one permanently fixing this issue for me. PS: you can visually see inside the spark plug lead that the metal core that latches onto the spark plug would be damaged it would also be very loose. Hope this helps.

Did you put 2 stroke oil in the fuel or the tank. that tank between you're legs is for the oil if it's not that then check the carb float if it's not that check if the fuel petcock is working properly fuel should only becoming out of the fuel line when it's running

Would the exhaust gasket need to be replaced ? My exhaust sounds like it’s going to blow up pushing full throttle and sounds like it’s sputtering backfiring after I let the throttle off. Front header pipes turning blue. It won’t accelerate past 60mph and bogs down, I’m guessing it maybe an exhaust gasket leak in the front?

Prolly the carb,its probably delorto like on my piaggio ciao,clean it,check if everythings okay and put on a fuel filter,they are like 5 bucks,and you wont clean your carb in years

I change my black box I put in new carburetor new air filter and it still not taking the rev whenever i rev it out the bike start chock and make some load backfire

Having the same problem, I took the carb out cleaned it completely cleaned all my jets, ran a little fuel injector cleaner thru it, though I don't put anything under 90 in mine, changed spark plug , and tried a brand new cdi and none of that fixed my problem either

Have you checked the fuel, sounds like you carb bowl runs dry and fills up again, mabey try a difrent size hose or a other fuel tap

I have the same problem and it was the tubes of gas that stayed a little higher than normal and the gas didn't go fast to the carburator

Is it a 70cc cilinder?? And original carb, what size carb is it? You need at least 19mm and max 24mm carb. ..sounds the same when you are out of gas when riding,..so i think you need a bigger main jet, also because you have a powerfilter, so you also get alot of air.
