What you see is what you get. Biden was never a leader or a competent person. He is a career politician who is scripted and managed by his handlers. He is weak on foreign and domestic policies. What is a "normal Republican"? Did they support Bush's Great Recession and lies about WMDs to invade Iraq? Did they support HW Bush and Reagans multiple recessions and corruption like Iran-Contra and the War on Drugs which delivered cartel product to inner cities to fund out black wars in Central America? Did they support Nixons Watergate scandal and his tapes showing he was an extreme bigot? I can respect Eisenhower, but even he had a VP Nixon scandal in 57 which led to a recession and should have disqualified Nixon as president if they had any integrity. Did they support Warren G Harding's corruption in Teapot Dome? There were many "old-time" Republicans that I had a great deal of respect for (John McCain is certainly one; and Donald Trump called him a "sucker" and a "loser" because he was a Prisoner of War and btw, he also called my father, who died as a result of wounds he received in the Korean Conflict, a "sucker" and "loser", in my opinion, Donald Trump is the sucker and the loser). Even though I may have policy disagreements, I could respect these folks and Republicans and Democrats could work together to in a bi-partisan fashion. My Republican Representative is a prime example. He voted to allow this country to not pay its bills (which, according to every economist I heard would have had a catastrophic effect on the economy). I had written his office to ask him to vote to pay our bills (I was afraid I'd lose my life savings if our economy tanked). He replied that he would vote to NOT pay our bills so that people would blame Biden for the bad economy and Trump would win in 24. I'm afraid I simply could NOT vote for someone like that--someone who thinks it's more important to make the Democrats "look bad" (and possibly making our entire economy tank and many of his constituents would lose everything) than help his constituents. No. I will NOT vote for that man. I wouldn't vote for him if he were a Democrat. My house "leans right" but the nuts who are taking over the GOP don't represent me (nor do Dems). I guess I'm part of the growing (disgruntled) middle. How many Conservative Dems to u hear saying things like "I didn't leave the Dem party, they left me." Why? Cuz many don't like how far Left the Dem party has gone. Well, as a Liberal Repub (a RINO to the Far Right), I feel the same way. I'm now registered No Party Affiliation. Bottom line, in these days when we seem to hv a need to "put people in boxes" I think these distinctions matter.

Your compassion is such a wonderful thing to see. I think what we're witnessing is the "branding" problem of a political party that centers around "traditional American values." Nations evolve. Attitudes evolve. Republicans aren't. Let's just hope our democracy can survive until the republicans go the way of the Whigs and fade away or figure out some re-brand that isn't stuck in 1953.

I thought 2 best in GOP Primary were Asa Hutchinson & Chris Christie. They had NO chance in Trump's GOP. U make some good points - I'll expand on some. You're correct that Parties change (they're not Monoliths, they're Coalitions). Coalitions swap around frm time to time (happening now, happened B4). Times do change as Social, Economic & Political landscapes change. We'll always hv Left & Right / Libs & Conservatives. We're no longer Whigs & Federalists. Times of change are scarry & there's people on both sides who tap into that fear (as way to divide & control us). Not everyone w/"right leaning" values are MAGA Far-Right nuts burning crosses in people's front yards. Just like Not all rank & file Libs are toxic ANTIFA Leftists out burning American flags. Extremists don't represent majority of (any) of us, but they're the loud ones w/the microphones & platforms. As a RINO (can't stand that term) turned No Party Affiliation, I see Trump & Harris as figureheads & symbols of deeper probs. I don't know how We the People can dig out of mess both corrupt parties (& $ behind 'em) hv put us in. We're in a race to the bottom & a house divided against itself cannot stand. We can (& shld in a free society) hv disagreements on this or that. What matters is IF we can work thru those disagreements (like GOP & Dems used to). For all our progress, we're de-evolving (as our nation declines). There's blame on both sides. Easy to identify probs, sucks that most of us aren't in a position to get together & fix it.
