I use downsmash ALL the time. 3 more downsmash ideas as some food for thought: 1. Tipper dsmash can be true combod into by inner hit down tilt at higher percents vs a good number of characters. Try it out and see if it works for you 2. You can use downsmash as a kill mixup for opponents at high percents that try to shield grab you. Do a late fair (or up air 😉) on shield and if they like to shield grab or wave dash out of shield, just hit the dsmash as soon as you lcancel and they get fucked 3. You can crouch cancel getup attacks and punish with dsmash! Most of the time, you can’t cc and then forward smash like falco can because you slide too far away and the front hit of fsmash hits on like frame 11 or something. BUT you can basically always crouch cancel dsmash because it’s so much faster. Enjoy down smashing!
Ty for the comment! Yeah I D tilt into downsmash every now and then but never thought to cc getup attack into it. I'm definitely gonna hit the lab with it thanks for the info!
Quick suggestion: Your material and how you cover it is really well done, I like your style and formatting! Unfortunately there's some audio issues that can be easily fixed post or even pre-recording! When playing back slippi files, make sure you go to the settings and "configure dolphin" so you can turn the in-game music off before the replay. This helps with audio clarity and your voice doesn't randomly duck behind yoshi's story music. Your vocal audio also tends to be a bit unstable, so to fix this you can simply record at the same distance/DB level each time to avoid discrepancies. Also as a side bonus, you can use some simple tools to help improve your audio quality! If you use OBS to record voice over, this should be simple, but if you do it all post, your video editing software might also be able to do this: In your audio source, add a filter by clicking the cog and going to "filters" Afterwards, be sure to add a "Compressor" and a "Limiter" You can start by leaving them at default and it works for most mic setups without having to go indepth. If you want to look more into what the slider do, i definitely recommend it as a few moments of research you can really finetune your settings. If you want to get a bit more advanced, you should add a "Noise Suppression" and/or a "Noise Gate" Suppression is more straight foward, but the gate has some incredible potential to change your audio from great, to really really fantastic! Good luck friend :)
I've been playing with marth downsmash for a few years now. here are some other good situations: 1: Peach recovering below stage can get you a tipper and kill her where f smash will trade. 2: covers ledge when spacies up b towards ledge though this is a hard read. 3. If you up b towards stage and land, and the other person rolls, it sets up for a tipper. 4: when you fthrow peach, some di of hers lets it tip and kill at relatively low percent.
Really good idea and topic, thanks for uploading this. I’ve always felt mixed abt dsmash but since Zain never uses it, most marth mains don’t. But I hope he sees this vid one day
I have never heard anyone say dsmash is a bad move. And all good marths use it. And heve been using it for years. And commentators usually praise their use of dsmash.... Nonetheless good video!
1:10 he's at 94%, at the very edge of the stage, and isn't outright killed by downsmash. The move definitely doesn't have good KBG or send at an angle reminiscent of sheik fair lmao.
