Hey, just wondering how do you guys usually pay bills during your clinical years? Is it common for people to get part time jobs as well as working full time in the hospital to afford rent & etc., or is it more common to use your student loan to pay for that stuff? Or do most people in med school have parents that can pay for it? I’m just really confused how you’re supposed to afford rent while working full time with no pay
Good question! There are different options for this. You can either apply for a living allowance each week which adds to your student loan. Or you can save up for it during your pre-clinical years. I'm not quite sure if people work part time jobs when they go out of Auckland but that can be an option too!
