Love your content Ken. NY’er 52 years, Horizon West resident the last 5 years. Not one single regret. Waking up to sunshine almost every day is a great way to live. I will never miss the gray skies in the NE Nov. - March and you’re right - you do get used to the weather. Love my new home state.
I moved here from Wisconsin 4 years this month on October 29th and all it took was one year for my body of having to live with bipolar seasons, but especially extreme winters where it felt like a mixture of Canada and Antarctica out of my system for good. After that 1st year, I was happy for my body to be fully adapted to Florida weather and it's awesome. You'll never look back.
Republicans in Florida are trying to take people's rights away. They need to be voted out. Plus side of moving there haha. My blue state is doing great with more individual freedom but the costs are getting high because everyone wants to move to Colorado.
Spent some time in Kissimmee and Orlando in general this year and I think it's a decent place to live. I liked how many places I could drive to from Orlando. Higher population density than Cincinnati where I'm from so that's something to get used to. I do like the Florida weather though. I don't need the seasons, had them my whole life.
Ken you hit every area perfectly. Being from NYC and Orlando being like a second home to me I think I'm good. I've been wanting to make the move to Orlando since 2001 so I know now that I'm ready. Great video!
Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and some other islands were decimated, but Naples and Marco dodged a huge bullet, obviously some destruction, but in general they are good, and will be great again in some weeks. Great video Ken, Orlando is amazing, so many options, a lot more than on the coast.
I am born here... you Never get used to the heat! It's like being from up north you never get used to it.. you deal with it... Yes the tolls totally suck..
When I moved here from Las Vegas I thought the toll roads were rediculous and figured I could avoid them, but unless you want to add 30 minuets or more to your commute you really dont have a choice in most cases. I spend about $30 a month give or take.
The number one thing I wish I knew was that minneola is only 20-25 minutes from everything. More adorable housing in an extremely nice area. Coming from Chicago 20-25 minute commutes to most things Orlando really isn’t much. In my head I thought it would be 45 minutes to an hour.
there was a bat hanging from my porch ceiling the day after the hurricane , heres what I have seen rattlesnake .copperhead snake ,coyote, boar , armadloos , wild cat, and lets not forget the aligators,I have gotten use to them, they stay in the water I stay on the land we get along just fine.
I wish I’d known I’d be allergic to the water. I would have installed the whole house filter BEFORE moving in. Would have saved me two months of itching. Whew! Glad that’s over!
In a time when the economy across the board in the whole US was at it's best early 90's. When most infrastructure was brand new and clean. Especially Fl, Orlando always sucked. I was living in South Fla at time near Stuart. And we got some some great radio stations from Orlando that I liked. WOMX Mix 105, 98.9 WMMO, WWLV Love 94.5 Daytona, Magic 107.7, Sunny 101.1 WSTF from Cocoa Bch/ Space Coast, All 5 because of the Cent Fla radio towers all being 100kw at at least 1600 ft boomed into Stu. And because its flat as a pancake except NW going toward Ocala. In Orl proper you got 4 more stations. You get Tampa at time W-101 WUSA, Mix 95.7 , NW you get 98.5KTK, and used to be Ocala's 93.7 WMMZ Z-93. Before they blew it up and changed to country in 1994. How do I know? I was supposed to be their evening jock. Until they fired everyone incl my future boss. All 9 of these stations were Adult Contemp and Hot Ac stations. Which was rare to have so many in any radio US market. Only SF, Pitt because they are both on hills, and Chicago had so many. So spent a week up there about 100 miles nw of me by Stuart. Check out the area see if I wanted to try it out. It was a huge disappointment. Outside the Orange Blossom Trail, which kind of reminded me of Dade- NW 2nd Av between Palmetto and Broward line back then. 167th St and 215. Poverty, and blight in Orlando never were camouflaged. It was the 1st Fl city that scared the hell out of me. Even Overtown Miami's worst hood was not as scary looking. Liberty City was only area that reminded me of Orlando. I don't know if Disney and industry that moved in since 90's has helped. Or made it worse. But you couldn't pay $1 mil to ever live in O. I could always say same about St Pete, Ft Myers, Sarasota, Ocala, Gainesville, Daytona, Titusville, Tally, and most of Jax as well. Though when in radio I survived 6 mos living off Dunn @95, not far from Jax Intl. Back then Tampa was not good, I heard its improved. West Palm was mostly hood, so was/is Ft L, Miami anything outside downtown was crap. Especially whole NW anything. But even NE was very seedy esp by Biscay, US 1 all the way up to NMB.
Question/Comment on tolls: Comparing, of course, to Michigan. While we don’t have toll roads, in theory we pay for it in state/local taxes. Would you say that the lack of state tax somewhat offsets the toll budget? Incidentally, I actually do own a SunPass since I’m on the Florida Turnpike a lot to visit my mom.
I'm from Savannah, Ga but plan to move to the Orlando area within a year to live the theme park life (again, ha). I graduate in April and will be working remote as a medical coder. I have two teens and my husband is a double amputee. I have almost no clue where to even start looking! We will be renters to start off but we want to be CLOSE to the parks, have enough bedrooms, and most importantly, wheelchair accessible. Do you have a webpage or resource list I can look through? Thank you for your content!
NASA built Cape Kennedy where they did because of the probabilities of hurricanes hitting east vs west coast, the west happened to have more hurricanes hit the west more often. (I can see because there tends to be a high pressure zone that hangs out just east of the eastcoast that tends to kick the hurricane clockwise and North)
Ken please, is there any new towers that look modern is under construction now in downtown?????? When do you think that downtown will look really like one
Illinois has high tolls as well. I have a Florida E pass for when I’m in Florida. I love the E pass at the airport. I usually drive down and fly family in. The E pass pays for parking. Awesome! That’s handy.
I have E-Pass too. I've had it since I moved here. I got the E-Pass Xtra which they now call E-Pass Uni. It's basically used at tolls in 19 states. If you can upgrade to the E-Pass Uni, you should because all you need is one Transponder for tolls in the states where it is valid to use from Florida to Illinois on up to Maine.
You mean Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois doesn't have any toll roads , just saying !! You can use "E pass" in other States. One day, ALL toll roads will be "E Pass" . Instead of buying separate passes throughout USA .
If you moved to Florida because we are a Freedom state, don’t have State Tax, or that Florida doesn’t shout down. Then remember to vote for the person that keeps are state this way! DON’T NEW YORK OUR FLORIDA! DON’T RUN FROM THE BAD AND THEN VOTE FOR THE SAME BAD! ❤️🐊
And watch out for politicians who bully school boards, create fake arguments for political gain, downplay sound medicine to the detriment of our citizens and are just plain bullies in general because they think it makes them look strong.
It's not! It's still expensive! The heat and humidity is brutal especially if you're going to be a theme park junkie. Again costs for tickets are expensive, especially for a family of four. Watch the HOAs. They never go down! Lots to do but most come at a cost.
Animals are nothing to worry about. The driving in Orlando is nerve wrecking dangerous especially in Kissimmee.Driving trips can cost more in tolls than gas.Schools are overpopulated so buses so challenged some kids sit on the floor. Politics not extreme left or right and not in your face flag bearers or protesters. Moving for political reasons is dumb since politics is never permanent. If you prefer to be around only people of your own kind?, wrong place. Orlando is truly a melting pot.A beaut
60MPH speed limit. That's the annoyance in Orlando on I-4. While Texas has a speed limit of 85MPH from Austin to Dallas to Houston, we're having to keep slow like turtles burning extensive amounts of fuel because of traffic backups to Universal, SeaWorld, Disney, and Champions Gate in either direction.
To myself it’s a big improvement to living in Minnesota. Up there it didn’t rain most of the year. The summer no rain so you had to spend a lot of money watering your yards. And to shut down and blow out your water lines before the winter hit mid October. Then the place was frozen solid through May. Then it was way too hot and humid. Orlando is so much better Oct. through May it doesn’t hardly rain … maybe 10 times per season. Always Sunshine, everyone in a good mood. And best of all compared to up north … Not passive aggressive. In addition to the taxes being way lower. With way many more things to do. I see very little bit to like about Orlando.
The outdoors is like living in a zoo. Birds, bugs, plants are all new to us. Traffic and tourists are not an issue around tuskawilla. It's a nightmare on the south side. Tourists are crazy. They paid too much for this trip to be considerate. Concerts, plays, expos, outdoor events, sports, are all at your fingertips.
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE & Leave Hate & Bigotry where you came from. We are the most Liberal FL Metro & as much as the Evangelicals hate that WE LOVE IT!
Depends on the usage. It’s a beautiful resort. Great area. Just not the best ROI. If they’re looking for a cool vacation spot that someone else helps pay off, then it’s great!
@@kenpozek basically looking to have a place for him and his family to come visit us when we move if he breaks even or even have to put in a some monthly money thanks Ken , he’s hooked on your videos after he watches one he comes back telling me information he learned I told him I’ve seen every video some more than once
Not really… just heavy rain and winds for 2 days. Definitely not the end of the world like it could be in the Tampa and Ft.Meyers area which is basically hurricane alley. Plus traffic is absolutely miserable in the Tampa area. Plus the area is really run down like the roads in comparison to the nice perfect roads in Orlando. There is a reason why Walt Disney choose Orlando and not Tampa.
Probably a local not wanting for more people to move to the area. Kind of like the local Hawaiian people telling people on social media about how terrible Hawaii is and to never move there…😉
The one thing I don’t like here is that people are too selfish. They don’t care. Dishonesty is almost everywhere. Wherever you go there are snake oil sellers. Honestly, people with high moral values here is pretty rare.
4:21 Most main cities are Dem and other cities are a close mix. all the country areas are Reps. This is due to the high amount of racism in those areas. I've lived here all my life "50 years" and I have lived all across the state and every area is different. The worst area to live in is South Florida due to the highest crime rates. Orlando is the most expensive area to live in. I went to the Orlando area from the Tampa bay area to get away from the hurricane that just hit us and was shocked by how much more stuff cost. And we stayed miles away from Disney
It’s all good to be a purple area but I think that the reason so many people have moved to the state is Governor DeSantis. Going down to Florida during those Covid lockdowns in the North was like going to a different country. Its one of the reasons why we invested there.
