Recipe here for those interested: - Beat 2 eggs in a bowl - Mix in 3/4 cup water and a pinch of salt (you can use chicken broth instead of water if you want more flavor) - Pour the egg mixture through a strainer and into a bowl. Remove any air bubbles with a spoon. - Cover bowl with saran wrap and steam for 12 min - After 12 min, remove from steamer and top with 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, and green onions. - Optional: Make cuts in steamed eggs to let the sauce seep through!
Thank you very much for the recipe! I'll be trying this tomorrow! Your savory oatmeal recipe is one of my all time fav breakfasts now. Looking forward to it!
Im so glad i found this bro 😭 i was considering just saving it for breakfast (never had it before) till i read that you make it for dinner, i happened to not have anything for dinner to make so i made this with white rice and shrimp. ur literally a life saver 💗💗💗💗
This was a lifesaver yesterday. I had to put one of my dogs to sleep, she was like my soulmate, and I had not eaten for a day. My husband learned to make it just to help me eat. I tend to eat this regularly, but yesterday was different. Thank you so much for posting this everywhere. I first found it on Facebook
@@tyshi00I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure you gave her the best life you could that was filled with love. They know when you love them. Dogs are great but some dogs are extra special and when you lose them it breaks you, I hope you’re reunited one day🩷
Hi Kylie, fellow Hawai’i girl living in the mainland here. I just wanna say thanks for, well, everything. Teaching your audience to have a healthy mindset toward food, making accessible recipes, keeping your roots in your cooking, and not changing the way you pronounce Hawai’i. I know so many people who have moved here that threw away their language to fit in; shoyu became soy sauce, Hawai’i became Ha-wai-yee, you get the idea. Thanks for representing us.
Wow this is truly one of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received. Hawai’i is so special and being able to represent my favorite place and favorite community is an honor! I’m tearing up just thinking about flying home next week 🥹
This is such a heartwarming comment! I'm not from Hawai'i, but I have family that lives there. Personally, I find the language beautiful and the culture fascinating!
This is like Chawan-mushi in Japan! You can also add stuff inside the custard like spinach, shrimp, mushroom or even ginkgo nut is popular. Also to add the more umami flavor I use dried shiitake and soak them in hot water. Then I use the liquid from soaking the dried shiitake in the egg custard. So good!
@@luvzmegann Noone said that she made up one of the most basic food combinations in the world. For it to be her idea it doesn't have to be her recipe or anything that's not what they mean with idea in the context
It’s not hard. There are literally hundreds of guides in the www. And given that all our tastes are different, just let yourself be inspired. BUT no matter how busy you are, you need to take the time to cook from scratch a few times a week. Also, if you want to feel more energetic (and maybe lose weight), don’t believe in stuff like „no bananas, no eggs, no cheese, no eating after 6pm etc.“ That’s bullshit. Thing is, a lot of us base our nutrition on grains. Bread and pasta of all kinds. We eat a lot of low-fat meat, but are suspicious of eggs, because of the propaganda against cholesterol in the last decades. 🙄 Also bullshit. So, do some research. I DO recommend Paleo, though I won’t get rid of cheese and potatoes. 😋
Gee whiz. I was intrigued and recreated it by cooking it to a T. verdict: Not worth the effort. Bland. Texture off-putting. Only taste comes from soy sauce and sesame oil. If people claim they eat green onions and then go to work they pull your legs. Any normal fried egg or soft boiled egg tastes better. Avoid!!
My partner and I tried your week of easy meals series with your grocery list and it was amazing!! I would definitely pay to watch more series like that.
I totally recommend making a batch of seasoned soy sauce to go with the steamed eggs! You can simmer soy sauce with aromatics and red pepper flakes and store it. This adds so much flavor to this dish and is great for people who don’t love kimchi. I add miso to mine for extra fermented goodness.
@@bellemusecore depends on what I have on hand but usually I go with the basic ginger, garlic, scallions and then build from there. It’s a flexible recipe so you could add 5 spice powder, something spicy like chili crisps or habenero, or even som citrus if you’re into that. I like it with lemongrass over something stronger like lemon or orange peel. I tried some experimental batches with a more Thai or Indian influence so have also added toasted sesame and coriander seeds, tahini, and one memorable experiment with Garam masala, curry leaf, and cardamom (which was kinda weird tbh). You could also for sure look up a recipe for seasoned soy sauce online if you don’t feel like experimenting!
so crazy ! I was watching my shorts and randomly thought to myself , “I haven’t seen nutrition by Kylie post” and I was like she really helped me dive out my norm and try new foods and then I refresh and there you are ! ❤️😭 I love your videos and thank you for the delicious food and tips !much love 💕
Thank you! I’ll probably upload an explanation as to why I’ve been intermittently uploading these past few months 😓 but coming back to my RU-vid community always cheers me up :)
I recently got diagnosed with t1d and your channel has been so helpful! It’s great to finally have a reliable source for what is actually healthy and what food myths aren’t true. your easy meal content has been so helpful because I’m a busy student and don’t have time to cook. Thank you 💗
The sesame oil is the keyyyyyy. So good. Had Korean BBQ the other day and told my fiance that the steamed egg would be bomb with rice and kimchi for breakfast sometime. Glad to see I was thinking right!
I order Korean bbq or boneless bbq ribs and I always save some for this breakfast. Nobody in my household likes the steamed eggs, but I love them. They are so versatile. I add chili crisp, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, and scallions on top. Warm white rice on the side and I’m in heaven.
really? :( i really wanna do this bc it loooks great and i always have eggs and soy sauce at home, but would i have to buy sesame oil just for this? any chance olive oil would work?
I appreciate that you explained how you steam things your way. It seems like such a simple thing for someone who's done it before, but it's a convenient way to find out how by accident while scrolling, too ;) That's how I've learned many recipes
whenever i see your videos i always watch them at the worse time (after i ate so im full) and im always about to cry bc im like this looks so good i want it
Thank you!! I LOVE this! It is the quickest and most effortless way to cook eggs. I can actually cook before work now. The cleanup is minimal!! I've done this two days in a row now, and as a sugar addict trying to break the habit this satisfies my stomach and taste buds.
You have no idea how badly I needed this, I’m gonna mess with it so much. Water can be subbed for basically any liquid for desired effects, add any ingredients to infused or change texture
I love your recipies they've really helped me keep myself eating well through some hard times this year and alot of them I've kept as staples like the vietnamese pizza thank you!
I usually don't eat breakfast or lunch but i saw this and it looked soooo good so I started making it and its really nice having a bowl of warm rice with these eggs.
My mom makes me this when I have tonsillitis or sick. It’s soft smooth and easy to swallow but also high protein and nutritious. When you’re sick and don’t feel like eating or have a sore throat, this is the to go dish. And also breakfast too!
I'm able bodied and everything, I'm just new to cooking and I've been generally trying to eat healthy, and I'm not only getting sick of scrambled eggs and ground turkey wraps, but I'm actually having fun learning how to cook, small steps at a time though. This channel is honestly incredible, it's giving me so many new things to try and really helping me understand how flexible cooking can actually be without overwhelming me.
This is the most expeditious savory egg custard that I've ever seen made. Looks good. You can add a few edamame and a good quality, chopped mushroom to the egg mixture. If you add broth to the egg instead of water, then you don't need the soy sauce & sesame oil.
To make the silky eggs more flavourful, you can substitute water with broth (I usually use some kind of bone broth). Also, for those who are in a hurry or don't have the equipment to steam it, you can also make it in a microwave, though the texture would not be as good. I personally put it in the microwave for 2 minutes when I’m in a hurry, but of course the timing depends on the microwave.
I like to think I'm not picky at all... But then I consider my reaction to a certain texture found in jelly beans, gummy worms, fruit leathers and nearly all dried fruits. (Dried strawberries are awesome...). I also associate cottage cheese with Milk Gone Bad.
if you're in a rush, steam the eggs while you take 10 mins to get dressed or while you're gathering your belongings for the day. add the toppings directly after and let it sit a few mins to soak the flavor up. while you put shoes on.
This is a very common breakfast for me as I grew up, you can totally just microwave it! Depending on the amount you’re making, starting with 2 minutes and adjust if needed! And you actually don’t need to strain it, it makes it look smoother, but I skip that step when I’m lazy/in a rush.
it's actually super easy to make! I make this for breakfast a lot and it only takes like 3 min of actual work, and I just get other stuff done while it's steaming lol
Hi kyle i wanna say thankyou for always uploading videos❤ ever since i watch ur videos my diet has changed. It became so enjoyable and not suffering✨ always had more veggies and still eat what i want in a good portion. I’m satisfied, healthy, and still lose weight ! I really enjoy my diet now! Thankyou❤
In China this is sometimes called 鸡蛋羹 or “egg custard”, hard to describe the last character. I personally adore this with dairy milk/non flavored and smooth soy milk instead of water and sriracha instead of soy sauce, and a dash of sesame oil while fresh off the stove. It’s sooo good that way, I don’t even need rice.
This actually looks rly good and reminds me of the time that I told my mum egg fried rice could be a breakfast food and she looked at me all confused and I said “anything can be a breakfast food if it tries hard enough”
Japanese omelettes are often made with sugar and soy sauce! It’s really good. I don’t make it the traditional way but I put a splash of soy sauce and mirin (or sugar) with my egg before I scramble it and then instead of using olive oil in the pan, I cook the egg in sesame oil and it’s soooo good
You can so do this with broth, soy sauce, sweetener of choice, & eggs in a small glass bowl or mug in the microwave. Top with thinly sliced white or green onions.
Hi, this is called Zeng Sui Daan (cantonese)/ Zheng Shui Dan (mandarin), and is a very common Chinese dish. These are not nameless ‘diet’-invented meals, and it’s nice to know the cultures and people that birthed them. Please consider crediting the dishes you post in the future. Have a great day!
It does look incredibly similar. From the texture, the color, and even the dark sauce on top. I’m guessing their made in a very similar fashion. Just a difference of savory dish vs a sweet dish version.
This is so cool! I’ve been trying to find healthy breakfast ideas that aren’t oatmeal or egg avocado toast. Tinutuan was the first and now this is my second.
omg I love the steamed egg, my grandma make them a lot during my childhood, she will put them in a flat pan and put in the rice cooker to steam it with rice. it doesn't come out as smoothly but taste just as good. This is still one of my comfort food to these day. I miss her so much😢
