@@TEAMSWARTZ, lol. I had a detail with an infantry guy once who was bitching the entire time. I wanted to say “Oh but I thought you were better than us lowly POGs” but I decided not to, after all, we are all on the same team. I think one thing that never crosses the minds of some people with a combat MOS is that they can’t do their job without support MOS’. I’m a 25U, how are you going to call in a 9-line MEDEVAC if I’m not there to set up your radio? How are you going to eat without cooks? How are you going to get your ammo without supply? How will you drink water safely without a water purification specialist? I could go on all day. They can talk shit all they want, but I know how important EVERY job is. I’m a firm believer that if an MOS was useless, it wouldn’t exist.
@@jjb0894 well Radios we can get guys to do it cooks not really theres MREs and Contractors Ammo thats a tough one to beat water purification we can just get water bottles we already do it some of these MOS we can go without but itll make the task a bit harder even though we have to do the fighting to secure the area for you guys to perform your support roles thats why we say were better cuz were the ones in frontlines and you guys can just sit in the back if we go down you go down and are forced to be second line thats the Ideal of support and secondly you POGs got it better than the Infantry thats why you hear us complain alot
I brought one bag with me. Basically a duffle bag. Do not bring a suitcase. Once you reception, you will be running a getting yelled at by the drill sergeants. Don't get a haircut cause you will get one when you're there. Learn your social security number. Commit it to memory because it will be the most frequent thing they ask. Stuff was cheap at the PX when I went back in 88. Ladies, leave the fake lashes at home.
You explained what females have to bring. It is amazing. I am nervous about menstrual cycle and basic training routine. Thanks for mentioning it! I cannot wait to be enlisted and start this journey!!!!
Haha I try my best to help everyone and be as fair and detailed as possible. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼
I know that the only thing I'm worried about for bringing is if they will have sensitive soap (ex:vagisil) since I'm sensitive to regular soap or would they have wipes from that brand? Other than that I'm glad for the useful information!! I didn't know that they hold your phone or can't take it haha
@@Cutepanda-uz5xs I’m in the navy so not sure if it’s the same, but when I went through basic as long as it was documented at medical your RDCs would provide you with accommodations. If it’s not documented still bring it up to your Drill Sargents or go to sick call if you have a reaction to the soap that’s provided.
I swear Swartz is so slept on, the amount of effort he puts into his videos. This guy deserves way more views. God bless and keep putting out these videos, really helps me understand the process when I go!

@@MAC-ws8fz You're 80 years old and still determine who a person is by using those labels? I thought it's more simple than that. All I know is that if you love yourself, your family, and the people around you, and when the situation arises, you always do the right thing, then that's what makes you a man. Not somefoolish label. Your action will define you, not some dynamic tag you find on the internet. It looks like you still got work you do, old man, as we all.

This video has been an amazing understanding of what BCT/AIT/OSUT is like these days. It’s amazing to see the recommendations and help you’ve provided and are providing to those heading out to reception.
Note on the Social Security card, IF you do not have the origional, you can go online to get a copy mailed to you for most states. You should start the process of getting the certified replacement immediately. It could take quite a while for the copy to get to you. Also note that there is a limit on the number of certified copies you can get.. so once you have it KEEP IT SAFE!
I honestly didn't think meps was that bad. Breakfast at the hotel was good, I only got an hour and a half of sleep but I woke up early for a few cups of coffee and a cigar, and I was determined to present myself as professionally as I could throughout the process. The Houston meps wasn't too cold, but it's probably a good idea to bring a buttoned shirt to wear over a tee shirt. Good luck future recruits!
I took a pair of 501 Blue jeans, tennis shoes, a Led Zeppelin T-Shirt I got at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977, my wallet with ID and that's it! to MCRD San Diego in 1980 :-)

I enlisted as an Army Reservist at the age of 27 and shipped out to BCT 22 years ago. I hemmed and hawed over the idea of enlisting since high school. When I had my first meeting with my recruiter, I specifically requested to complete the enlistment process and ship out as soon as possible. He asked if I was running from the law or if I owed child support! I laughed and said no, I just wanted to hurry up and go before I chickened out. I think it was only about 4-5 weeks from that day until I shipped out I am glad to see the packing list hasn't changed too much. I was told to bring orders / paperwork, wallet / ID card, a check to set up direct deposit, a single change of undergarments, basic hygiene items, and a little bit of cash. My recruiter picked me up early in the morning and checked my stuff before we went to the airport. I had a SMART book and read a lot on the way. It was a long travel day to fly from California to Atlanta, followed by a 4 hour bus ride to Fort Jackson, SC. I'd recommend anyone to try to sleep on the plane and bus, but I admit I couldn't due to anxiety. I was surprised to see Drill Sergeants in the Atlanta Airport Terminal directing enlistees where to go. They weren't yelling, but they were definitely all business. I can't recall for sure if there were any Cadre on the bus, but it was dead silence the whole way. Arrival late at night to the Reception battalion was about what I expected, although it wasn't quite as intense as some of videos I had seen. Nobody was carrying any rolling luggage or garish travel bags such as seen in this video. You definitely don't want to do that! The adjustment to military life is very hard at first, but you acclimate to it quickly once you are there. The two weeks in Reception were relatively calm, but the stress gets ratcheted up when you get picked up by your Cadre and start your actual training. For me it was a transformative experience and I came out a much better person than I was at the beginning. I was lucky as a Reservist that my unit got to do a lot of travel and we did almost all of our Annual Trainings in OCONUS locations. I went on one year long deployment as well. I'm not a recruiter, and I no longer have any direct connection to the military. Anytime I am asked about the service, I always say "Go For It" because I never regretted it for a moment. I didn't enlist for the benefits or bonuses, but the GI Bill money was a huge benefit in paying my way through college after I got out. Best of luck to all who step up to serve this great country of ours! GOD BLESS AMERICA

In ‘85 I brought to Basic & AIT combined a shave kit and shine kit (thanks dad!), a book, and a Walkman with a few cassettes. They let us have our Walkmans and books in the middle of Phase-Two. However, I accidentally got mine past the initial contraband check*, and had it the entire time. Those five cassettes became the soundtrack of my experience over those 6-months. Great memories of sitting on the floor cleaning gear and shining boots jamming to Journey, Boston… *I forgot I had it in my shave kit-they missed seeing it-and the headphones were down around my neck. I didn’t want to get in trouble, so I hid it. Then I began to use and enjoy it. The one shakedown they did, I had it in my pocket, the headphones cable running under my uniform, and the headphones, again, down around my neck. Great times.
