After spending my 19th alone(honestly cried that time), I decided that I just didn't need to care about my birthday anymore and treat it like a normal day. On my 20th, I spent the day hiking by myself(one of my favorite things) and treated it like a normal day. I wasn't exactly happy, but I didn't cry and that was what a success. Now, my birthday is coming up and I plan to spend it similarly. Except instead I will make or buy myself a cake and eat it in at one of my most favorite hiking spots. This would be the first time in 3 years I'd have cake for my birthday, after getting over an eating disorder. While I am still acknowledging it, I am just treating it like a normal day, but with eating cake.

I’m usually the most positive person in the world- writing a comment like this completely isn’t me at all! I spend all year trying to make people feel special on their birthday, throwing them parties, making them cakes and contributing more than I can afford to amazing presents. I’m the happy, excitable one and I’m definitely a people pleaser. It became apparent only a few minutes ago that things aren’t going to be the same for my own birthday- no presents, no cards (apart from from my Nan bless her!) and no party or day out. There was clearly no surprise being planned because everyone was busy organising another girls big weekend so I decided to stop moping and plan my own... only to watch 19 people, one by one, tell me that they couldn’t make it. I know I’m so blessed otherwise and as I said, I’m usually so positive and bubbly but I can’t help feeling utterly heartbroken on my birthday 💔xx

i’m not 21 lol but i’m turning 14 kind of soon and I realized how many friends I have lost and grown apart from in 2020 so it made me kind of sad because i was like “omg in 2019 i had sooo many friends, where did they go?” But I have two amazing parents, two funny siblings, 2 besties, a cat, 2 grand parents, 1 great grandmother,1 close aunt, and 1 close cousin. 29 today. I usually spend my birthdays not doing too much cause I have no friends around to really go out and celebrate them with like what social norms paint as normal. The truth is I do spend a lot of time to myself, and I don't make friends too easily. I have a few friends that I wouldn't mind doing stuff with, but they are 8 hours drive away. You kinda don't keep in touch as much either. But, we should not see that having no friends on our birthdays as a sign that we are of low or lower value. This is just not true at all, and we often place value on the validation we get from others. Friends or no friends, lonely or not lonely, love yourself and know that you are valuable no matter what.
