We are three Orthopaedic surgeons trained in India and now working in and across the UK, with lots of help from friends, endeavouring to provide the help we lacked during our training.
Through this RU-vid channel, we intend to provide practical answers to day-to-day questions, those which are not found on any website or pamphlet.
Right through our medical education and career, we’ve strongly felt the acute gap of having consistent guidance and mentorship. Our goal is to address this by providing exactly that, right from the nascent years of medical education right up to the point of becoming a true professional.
Our vision is to help budding doctors develop a broad perspective of opportunities, provide key information to maximise and improve results and help realise your dreams.

Thank you for the video. I stumbled upon on it trying to search for answers for an entirely different doubt I had in mind. I’m presently an intern, preparing for my post graduation degree from India. I’ll be graduating by the end of this month and the entrance exam for the PG seats are in April 2022. I’ve read a lot about how a 4-6 months gap in your CV affects the chances of getting a job if one were to take up the PLAB route. Is it the same with MRCS route? Does it matter at all if I were to take a break to prepare for my entrance exam and if I were to take up the MRCS route to get into UK a few years from now?

Hi Varun, Gaps are not a big problem as long as they can be logically explained. You can indeed take a gap/time/drop year if you so want - it shouldn't be a problem. If you have further doubts you can send us an email at yourmetnor121@gmail.com !!

Hello! Is it really so very difficult for an IMG doctor to secure a training job in UK after completing MRCS? I've heard from doctors who are working in NHS that surgical training in their country is not recognised very well by NHS. I have six months of training in pediatric surgery and nine months of training in urology, general surgery and casualty combined. Even though I have decided to go for MRCS but it's quiet disheartening at times. Please help me with my confusion.

There is no defined "route" to fellowships in the UK. You may apply to those posts that open up and can be found on the NHS Jobs websites and hope to get shortlisted for the interviews. A strong CV and a good recommendation always helps !! Senior clinical fellow is a designation that is as the name itself suggests. Firstly it depends on what you're asking for ? Different things have different requirements and cut offs even. However, in general, either is acceptable in most places. Make sure to check the requirements and choose the right kind of IELTS exam ( academic ).

@EkanshDebuka
@EkanshDebuka 3 года назад
Do take time to understand the system before you decide on an exam - If you’re considering MRCP/MRCS instead of PLAB, check first whether it is even required for your target specialty. MRCP is only required for specialty training in medical specialties eg. Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology. It is not required to enter training for other specialties such as Paediatrics, Psychiatry, GP, Ophthalmology, Surgery etc. This seems to be a common misconception. Make sure you know your training pathway so you don’t take unnecessary exams. MRCS is required for most surgical specialties. It is not required for Obstetrics or Ophthalmology.

Hi Dr Paul, we've explored this through our previous videos. Its not a black and white answer to your question. You need to understand the pros and cons of each option and see what personal factors come into play for you uniquely and then take a decision. For some, MTI option works and for others MMed does based on what they are looking for eventually.

I secured a MTI job in a very good hospital and got a chance to join MMed as well. The pros for MTI JOB- no strict contract and no tuition fees but cons- tier 5 visa and have to return back after 2 years whereas Mmed gives me tier-2 three years VISA but huge tuition fees involved in it. I am really feel confused. I am planning to stay in UK as long as possible with my family. Could u please give any suggestions so that I could take the right decision. Dear Dr Dwivedi, there is just one FRCS now. The only other one is the international FRCS but that has limited scope weightage. After MRCS you can either start at the registrar level or might have to work as SHO initially.
