This is great. When I was a child, I recall my mum, crying because, she had nothing to cook for dinner and she had put the last of her housekeeping onto the electric key. My Grandma came over; she looked into the fridge and pulled out a piece of cheese, which she grated, along with an onion. She made some pastry, which she put into a flan dish and filled it with the cheese and onion. We had some baked beans and a few potatoes. She cooked the potatoes and than mashed them to put over the cheese and onion. We had this cheese, onion and potato flan, which was beautiful, along with baked beans. It was so good, that we asked if we could have it again! My Grandma, was a child during the war and knew how to prepare meals from virtually nothing. I still make it today and it is known as “Grandma’s dinner”.
@@raiganmtz Thank you. My mummy is a little upset with me. I made it sound as if we were poor. Sorry mum. We weren’t poor but, like most young families, with a mortgage, money was tight. The story is true. My mum was always given her housekeeping on a Friday. It was bitterly cold, so she made the decision, to use the last of her housekeeping to keep us warm. But, my beautiful, oh so lovely, Grandma, saved the day. She was so very loved and it was to her that I dedicated this story.
@@helenbmclean5100 give your mom a big hug from me and tell we all go through tough times. She has nothing to be upset about. If we can learn from each other and help others that are going through them now, then I think it’s all worth it. Hugs 🤗
I have a similar story... And the money isn't relevant as much as the ingenuity! My little one and I were visiting with my godmother and I apologized for not having many groceries but offered to order take out. She looked in the fridge, laughed, and made the MOST delicious meal with potatoes, onion, spinach, cheese and frozen shrimp! So delicious that we asked for it again
I rewatched this video a few days and ago and when I had nothing to make for dinner tonight, remembered you making that quiche. I had leftover bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, half an onion and 3 small sweet potatoes in my fridge. Also a refrigerated crust which made making it super easy. When I told my hubby what was for dinner he said "Real men don't eat quiche" then proceeded to eat two big servings. 😏 Thanks for the idea, Lisa❣️
This was such a fun video to watch. My children are grown, so it's been a long time since I had to cook for a group every night, but I remember those days. Pizza and German pancakes were staples for us when I had nothing planned. Nowadays I am cooking for just my husband and myself, but there are times when supplies are low and I just don't feel like a trip to the store, so I just whip a bunch of items together. My husband calls this "something from nothing" cooking and he happily eats whatever I set in front of him!
You are indeed an inspiration. You reminded me of all the strange meals my husband f I made when I did my degree & my teaching certificate all in 4 years. Work wasn’t always in plenty for my husband, & weeks got hard sometimes. I remember us sharing the last teabag for two cups of weak tea. We did it, though, largely depending on eggs, cheese, bread & whatever veggies my Dad, retired from his lifetime job as a coal miner, went to the local market every day to see if anyone needed help. He’d bring us whole boxes of mushrooms, maybe a little tired looking, but great in soup, potatoes, carrots onions, Mum would sometimes hide a few pounds & a pack of really good coffee at the bottom of the bag. We never asked them for anything, never told them that we were struggling, but of course, parents know. We were very lucky, & I love watching your videos for the memories.
Oh Lisa. I thought I was more or less through the season of my life where I envied people for their qualities that I lack, but I will never stop wanting to throw down such wholesome meals for my family with such ease! Thanks for taking the time to share your wonderful talent and passion
Hi Lisa! I love this kinds of videos! I never comment, but today I want to thank you because you are including more meals without meat in them. 👏👏👏! Thank you for all of your content! 💚
you all probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
15 dozen eggs? I'm impressed-and a bit jealous! My son and husband both had a fit when I had a measly 6 dozen and were calling g me a hoarder. I k ow for a fact that eggs are good at least for 5 to 6 months, maybe longer. So what can I do or say to alleviate their issues with how I run my kitchen? BTW I do all the shopping, also.
This is insanely inspiring. Why weren’t more people raised to cook for themselves this way? Old fashioned, wholesome food from scratch. How it should be. Not from a box. Thanks for the easy meal ideas! Very helpful
I made sourdough pizza today, so good! For dinner I'm going to make sourdough pancakes :)) your recipe is the best! (Mom of 2 here, a toddler and an almost 4 months old. No time for anything so I'm always looking for fast recipes.)
Your cutting board and it's wobbliness makes me nervous! (I say this with kindness, not with criticism) You can you put a put a damp cloth under it to stabilize it. I just don't want it slipping from you and having an accident.
I love your channel and your videos but I really want to say that I highly miss your old videos. I miss the decluttering and decorating, and your making new products and groceries. I don’t know if it’s bc I miss the house or if it’s bc I miss the old content. I like the cooking videos but I feel like they are taking over your channel and I feel like you’ve left your homemade products for your sister to do for her channel. I mean that in the best way I promise. I’ve been a sub since like 15000 so I’m dedicated. I just wanted to give some real feed back. I would just like to see something different. I remember from years back how to do most of these meals bc they have been featured several times already. Love you and sending you positive vibes🖤🖤
Hi :) I would be very interested in a video on what you always have on hand in your fridge and/or pantry - have you filmed one like that? I love watching your channel, and have learned so much from you. Thank you for creating all this lovely content
I was telling Lisa that every time I make a sourdough starter I end up throwing it out because I am intimidated to use it and bake! Has anyone else felt this way? I need to just go for it ☺️
@@carmarasmussen8118 you definitely won't poison your family lol unless it has some scary color on top like black, red, green or blue then I'd toss it but otherwise you'll be fine lol
Wow, I really wish I had RU-vid for ideas15-20 years ago. Sometimes, I am just plain out of ideas… as a mom sometimes the creativity well runs dry by 5 pm.
I’m super late to the party! I just discovered you! I’m a 65 yo mom of three grown kids and grandmother of two and we recently adopted our baby from foster care. She just turned 2. You inspire me every single day. I am addicted to your videos now. 😂 when I think I can’t do one more thing or I’m too exhausted to get thru another day, I watch you and I’m good to go! Thank you! Xo
Your gentle chill humble vibe always makes me feel nice. I appreciate that you are not hyperexuberant....I do not like that, or talk/yellimg to seem just so damn excited....like, why? Stop it. Anywho, happy spring and Easter Lisa & family. 💐
Lovely video, Lisa. I make a frittata version of your quiche with onions, eggs, greens. No crust. Then I "fry" thin slices of homemade Italian bread in olive oil in a cast iron skillet. A slice of frittata on top of each olive oil toast. My Italian family loves this for breakfast with espresso.
@@FarmhouseonBoone YES! Pantry tour is what I wanted too. After our Texas snowmageddon, I want to have a better stocked pantry with back ups...but also keeping my fridge area minimal. Hopefully I'll get the starter living one day. Thankfully, my neighbor keeps refilling mine when I let it die.
I just made a quick and easy meal. I keep freeze dried or canned chicken in my pantry as well as rice and peppers. Take an onion, 2 peppers and simmer them in a skillet of butter and 1 cup of chicken stock. Boil 3 cups of rice that has been cleaned of its starch. Add chicken meat and a dash of cummin to fry pan and simmer for 10 mins. Drain rice and mix together. Arroz con pollo. Quick, easy and delicious! 😀
You saved the day again. Thanks! I’ve got to have your cookbook! I’ve been following you for years and I’m finally going to attempt the sourdough starter. It’s time!
Love this video! When there's hungry mouths to feed, we just figure it out real quick like, don't we?! 😂 I have a legit question about cooking with coconut oil (I hope I don't sound silly) but does it make whatever food you're cooking taste like coconut? (i.e. the salmon patties!) I love coconut myself, but hubby and son do not. 😂 I just want to use it, and even bought some, but I'm too scared to try it! 😂
@Farmhouse on Boone Thank you for replying to me! I really appreciate it. I'll def start experimenting with it and see how we like it. I love your channel and have been going back watching a lot of your older videos. I especially love the antique hauls. You've inspired me to buy 2 antique lamps that I adore and a beautiful antique cream colored pitcher vase that I'm obsessed with! Just went to Hobby Lobby today and got some hydrangeas to place inside it! Thank you for inspiring me with all your great content. I took note of your dining room wall color and pantry wall color for my "new" home. We bought our first home just 2 years ago, a little late, I might add...in our 50's. lol It's a cute little cottage style home built in 1945, with a sunroom added on the back. I'm having fun decorating it, and your inspiration def helps me! Keep up the great work!
Canned chicken would be good on your pizza. Since the chicken is cooked in the canning process, it will be safe on your pizza's short cooking time. ❤🌅🌵😷 p.s. Canned salmon is good on pizza... just shred it finely.
Man I wish my kids would eat a quiche or half of these meals you share haha!!! My 10 year old is the pickiest! But I can’t complain because he loves rice and vegetables but he won’t touch a quiche or any type of soup 🤦🏼♀️
I would blow the egg out if those shells, dry them then spary with a clear spray. Then find a small tree branch and hang the egg shell on it. The color of those egg shells is absolutely astonishing!
I love your cooking style. Unfortunately for me, my son is allergic to eggs and my husband won’t allow cast iron skillets in our house. I do enjoy watching though.
I've been binge watching your videos and trying many of your sourdough recipes. I'm really enjoying using my sourdough starter so often! I love your old fashioned hand mixer. It reminds me of my grandma's - which still works and my mom inherited. Where can I find one like yours? It seems to work well and I'm finding it difficult to find one that is good quality.
I love these recipes and hope to try some. I think u could b on Food Network, because you have ur own style. Enjoying your videos. I'm going over to see ur BLOG :) Have a blessed Lord's day
Love your kitchen! My dream is for hubby to extend my small walk in kitchen and just have kitchen extended out in dining room in one place. Love the recipes! Had a sourdough starter for almost 3 weeks now and my sis in law recommended your channel .
I hated that I had to quit making sourdough. It messed up my sewer system with my old house. We do love having breakfast for supper. Sometimes we have what we call egg on toast like a poached egg. One other thing I can make any time because of things that I've canned is I put together the hamburger and onion I have canned over the summer and also take a pint jar of carrots and potatoes that I canned and then just add a can of tomato soup. All it will have to do is warm through. I love salmon patties and haven't fixed them in awhile. Going to get some more at Aldi today. We usually serve it with fried potatoes and onions.
Word to the wise... don’t watch this at 10:00 at night...Cuz I am soo hungry. Lol!! Great recipes Lisa. I am always impressed with your cooking skills. All of them look delicious! We love to do breakfast for dinner. That was tonight, actually. Saved this video for recipes. Don’t know about sourdough starter. But you don’t know unless you try. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
Hi Lisa, I love all of your healthy, natural meal ideas. How do you get your kids to eat one pot/skillet meals with all those beautiful vegetables mixed in? I usually make vegetables as a side but I would love to try more one pot meals with vegetables incorporated but when I try it my kids (5 of them, ages 1-8) won't eat it because the vegetables are mixed in. It is so defeating. Thanks for any advice you can give. 🙂
It took me a long time to add canned chicken to my pantry. Like you, I only use it in a pinch... Like when I'm sick. Yes, it's expensive, but I think of the expense as my penalty for not being prepared. The one I get has less than five ingredients, so it's pretty healthy. I guess you could can your own, but I don't have a pressure canner. There are other delicious canned meats, but I don't eat beef or pork anymore. ❤🌅🌵😷
Have you always liked the taste of sourdough ? My family loves sourdough bread. anything „pure“ sourdough (your pizza) or containing sourdough (pancakes) that isn’t bread they won‘t eat because of the „sour“ taste. It is so unfortunate bc I can never make your recipes. Do you have any tips on that ? Best wishes from Germany
If you’re in a pinch, needing to make dinner immediately, and your sourdough has been sitting in the fridge for a week, would you pull it out and use it anyway? I haven’t considered a meal with sourdough to be a quick, last minute meal idea since I always take it out and feed it at least 4 hours before I need it. Thanks for the quick and easy ideas! Breakfast for dinner is usually our go to when we’re in a rush! 😊
I think I heard some gasps around the world, when we saw her 9 dozen eggs...but if you cook/bake from scratch, there are eggs in everything...those who buy ready made everything at the store, probably do not realize that... even scrambled eggs for my family of 4 uses 12 eggs for breakfast... then a couple in my meatloaf, 2 for my cookies, and 2 for my muffins... and that is all in one day! 18 eggs! Then hard boiled the next day for egg salad, that is 12...then 2 for my breadmaker..... and it goes on.......
For shredding cheese, I avoid shredding by hand by using a cheap item: a presto salad shooter. I use it for shredding carrots, beets, and cheese mostly. It also has attachments for slicing, but I don’t use it for that.
We love you pancake recipe. Although it takes the recipe multiplied by five to feed our family of 11, lol. We never discard sourdough and have to feed it morning and night to keep up with the meals we make with sourdough.
🙋🏻♂️ Lisa!! You’re pizza reminds me of the Deep dish pizza you get in Chicago!! They look soo sooo good.. Love watching your cooking videos they make me feel warm and cozy and also relaxed..And as always you look ravishing today in your gray sweater 🥰
I make many of the same kind of meals and keep lots of flours on hand, except mine are Gluten Free. I hadn't made sourdough yet, but there are brave cooks who have--so I'm going to go for it. Love pancakes and eggs; put my egg on top of the pancake. I'm glad I found your channel.
your so great, gbu... I love your channel, your such a great inspiration. Your a hard working mom, your dedication to your family is amazing. Love all those deliscious quick meals!
AWESOME ideas thank you. I haven't seen an egg beater like youres since I was a child. My mum used to have one and she made all her cakes by hand. Beating with a wooden spoon or using the hand egg beater. Best cake maker ever!
We need a mass collab from all our favorite homeschool moms from different states! I live in Virginia and it's my first year homeschooling and have no clue what I need to do by the August 1st dead line 😱
Your cutting board is not steady, probably it's deformed. It's moving when you are cutting things and it gives me anxiety, I'm always afraid you are going to hurt yourself.
Thank you. Great ideas for us. You make things look so easy, but we all know it's not just that simple. Your a very organized person with real talent for Invention😊
I want to share a fast protein filled meal with you. I think it is an old Southern dish. Scramble eggs and canned salmon together. I serve it with buttered toast. We like it and it’s easy.
Awesome as always and so true as you show us when you have the staples and pantry full of your "go-to" items you do so many quick meals. I'm always in the need of more ideas and for that keep these videos coming! 😀
When I watch your videos I realize that I live in an area that’s way too hot. South Texas! We stay away from the oven during the summers here because it’s soooo hot! I was definitely able to find inspiration in the video though!
I’m just now watching your channel for the first time and really enjoying it! I’d love to get your sourdough recipe. Could you please point me to your video on how to get one started?
Root veggies do go bad, if you don't have a good place to store them.... I have tried buying and saving these in bulk, but end up wasting lots of money because they rot. So now, I buy much smaller quantities. People need to think about how they are going to store their staples. It's unfortunately not a one-size-fits-all solution. Otherwise, great tips. 👍🏻

Thank you for the ideas shared on this video! I think it was done thinking about me 😂😂😂 I'm going through my third pregnancy right now and sometimes just don't have the energy to think about dinner. These ideas are super simple and nutritious, I love them 🙌🙏
All very good ideas. I love your videos. Must learn how to make sourdough starter now. Where do you buy your pink salt? What brand? Thank you for all your excellent ideas.
