The New grey box on the outside is the Customer Service Point! or CSP for short! it is usually installed outside but mite also be found on a landing or service cupboard in Apartment blocks! The ONT is inside the dwelling Preferably in a Cupboard with at least two Sockets (Outlets usa) additional a UPS to Power bothe the ONT and the wifi Router in to the event of a Power Cut/Outage PS the wifi Router dose not necessarily needed to be next the ONT you can use a longer ethernet lead to position the wifi router in a more subtle location!

I had to ring Zen and input a new account username and password before it would go live. Not difficult, as I've been installing network kit for years, but a lot of people probably wouldn't know how to do it. Oh yes a UPS is well worth having, we have a home office here and all the computer kit plus the IP PBX runs from it.

Why not show the true install so many times your customers are not told a full new provide is needed, ie drilling holes running new external cables ie OH/UG very poor video tbh that does not show what’s involved

Hi @@kateneilballingall6055, Thanks for your comments. This video aims to provide an overview of each stage that the customer may experience from point of order. I agree that not all orders will need a stage 1 or stage 2 but I do mention this in the video. I would love the opportunity to discuss any ideas you may have for future videos, please email cxmanager@zeninternet.co.uk. Thanks, Paul

@@howtobyzen it's a no-brainer - just show us what it really looks like at all stages. I was going to pay more becasue I wanted to move from shitty Vodafone but the fact that you're shady even with showing the installation process discourages me at the start.

@@portman8909 Some properties have large(ish) holes behind the BT sockets, but I don’t suppose anyone has thought about using them. Seems like a no brainer as the BT socket wont get used anymore after getting fibre. Why aren't the two things combined? Remove the BT socket and have the ONT fit where the BT socket was? Seems like the design of the install is only half thought through in terms or unnecessary holes and wires on the inside.

Stage 2 Problem as the ISP blames the Installer for a failed install and the installer blames the ISP for arrangements. Neither can tell you where or when to expect the engineer as they dont have access to live communication!! ISP Air broadband....City Fibre installer of stage 1 and 2... customer - I Know nothing but have wasted my money to sit here and wait for there appalling service and communication, what happens now, who knows as I do not, discombobulated to say the least. Perhaps I now get the £90 charge they threaten for cancellation!

Why are all the comments disabled on the main Zen RU-vid channel? They have an ‘Up Your Street’ installation video there and I wanted to ask questions before I consider switching to full fibre. Over on this channel, which I assume is also official Zen, comments are enabled. Bit weird? If you go full fibre, do you have that massive box (as shown in the ‘How to Setup your Fritz!box for the First Time’ video) fitted on the wall inside your home? I found in another video that it looks like that wall box needs to be powered via a 3-pin socket. Lots of holes in the information presented about what to expect/difference to ADSL and nowhere to ask questions about it.

Hi Ironbuket, Thank you for your question. If you were to switch to a Full Fibre service you would require an ONT, although, these devices are updating all the time and the latest generation are roughly around the size of a smart phone similar to the one on the "Up Your Street" video or the one on the "City Fibre ONT" video. You are also correct the ONT will require its own 3-pin socket. Hope this answers your questions, however if not please feel free to Drop us a DM on our (Zen's) Twitter or Facebook page. Thanks, Paul

@@howtobyzen The smaller black boxes seems better. But then I read comments that say some people with those also have a box on the outside of their house. I wish there was more specific details given about what you actually have to have installed if you switch over. With ADSL all you have is the BT socket and a router. Depending on what comments I look at it seems you can end up with 3 boxes and have to power 2 of them yourself. Can you suggest to your bosses that they turn the comments back on for the main YT channel? Even if your staff dont have time to answer questions, users can answer each other's questions.

Hi Ironbuket, Thank you for your comment, As it currently stands you will indeed need 2 units for a Full Fibre service, these being an ONT and a Router, both of which will required power. The ONT is the unit which converts the light signal from the fibre into a digital signal which is then passed onto the Router. As for ADSL, this technology has been around for a while now, but when it first was introduced this to required two units, a Modem and a Router. As technology has advanced the all-in-one units used today became available. Currently however this type of setup is not an option for Full Fibre. If you are to switch from ASDL to FTTP, and you already have fibre cabling running to your property but no ONT, then you will simply require an engineer to install one and you can use your existing router. If you do not have this however, an engineer will need to complete this work by either installing an above ground cable or underground from the main line to your property. As this is a different technology to the ADSL line & Socket, it is likely that a additional hole will need to be created in order for the fibre cable to pass into your property, however this would be performed by the engineer. Once the full fibre service is live, unless you retain your old analogue phone line the BT ADSL socket will become redundant. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks Paul

@@howtobyzen There are 3 boxes. My neighbour has had it installed and now Zen is trying to pressure me to have it, by telling cityfibre to just come to my house and do it without even consulting me if I want it. There is a router inside (1), the ONT inside (2) and then a box on the outside of the house where I believe they make the connection between the fibre under your road and the shorter length that feeds into your house and that third box connects to the ONT. For some properties it seems the third box can end up on the inside also, but it’s looking like for my road cityfibre are fitting the box to the outside walls There are at least 2 holes they have to drill, one for the outside box and one to get the cable to the ONT. Plus the holes for attaching boxes to walls. This is as much info as I’ve managed to find out so far. It’s like extracting teeth trying to get any detailed info I would like a survey and to talk to someone about the details and options for an install, but apparently that doesn’t exist. Zen have told me that you get a survey when CityFibre come to install it. I recently had a new boiler installed, I cant imagine anyone having a boiler installed without first having the potential fitter come and chat things over with your beforehand so you can decide if you want to do it and look at a various options. Why is installing fibre treated differently? Inevitably there will be a time when customers will have no choice but to just put up with whatever is hoist upon them as the copper gets turned off, but that doesn’t make it right in my book.

Hi! Moving to a new property where full fibre is available but is not in place at the address (so will require stages 1 and 2 I think). How many days (worst case) between ordering Zen Internet full fibre and it being installed and activated? Thanks!

The installation service wasn't that good, but it was nothing to do with Zen and everything to do with Openreach and then the subcontractors they used for the home fit. Zen were really good at salvaging the situation the next day though.

So how complicated is the install of the ONT going to be considering I live in a first floor flat, with the City Fibre install basically terminating at the front gate, and my living room etc on the back side of the building away from this. Wondering how this all gets to the room where the router needs to go.
@howtobyzen
@howtobyzen 2 года назад
Hi Paul, the engineer will do all of the required cabling to get the ONT where it needs to be 😊 due to the location of the termination and your living room they may need to carry out a survey to plan in the cabling works, but we would know more once the order is in progress. Hope this helps 🙂

Hi Waka, CityFibre & the BT Fibre are both similar technologies, they just use their own infrastructure. From an average day to day usage point of view, it would be unlikely that you would notice a difference. Thanks, Paul
