How to travel the world on $30 a day, solo. I quit my job, sold my car, gave everything away so I could travel the world. This series is about traveling the world on your own with tips, tricks and travel hacks plus funny stories that hopefully will teach you a thing or two as well.
I traveled for 12 months on $12,000 on my own - through 17 countries, 4 continents with only one backpack and a camera bag.
This video is about how to travel in Nepal and what to do in Nepal specifically the Everest Base Camp trek in a Everest Base Camp (or EBC) Trekking Guide. It also talks about hiking and trekking the Everest Base Camp trek solo, without a guide or porter and the general experience of the Everest Base Camp trek. This is part two of my time on the Everest Base Camp trek.
All Travel Footage shot, edited and produced by me as a solo female traveler.

I leave for Nepal tomorrow morning, so excited! I'm planning to get the Jeep into Salleri and then hike in and fly out of Lukla and do a trek to Gokyo as well. So sort of what you did in reverse. Thanks for sharing

Did you know that there is a more interesting and impressive trail to EBC which goes via Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche instead of the standard Tengboche route. Amazing views high across the valley, lots of wildlife and no other trekkers. Tengboche can be visited on the way down. By the way, I met Sir Edmund Hillary in Jumbesi in the year 2000 when hiking up to EBC with 7 friends of mine. They held a festival to his honor, with dancers, band etc. Also met his (second) wife and son Peter.

It was so epic - and I hope so too! I have literally looked everywhere. I've seen it since my trip though so I know I have it somewhere but I couldn't find it this time around and I didn't want to not be able to keep to my schedule just because of this missing footage. Hopefully one day as I have more time to sort through my hard drives I will come across it again and make the video then lol. Thanks for watching, Harish!

Yes Lindsay , 2000 subs woohoo when your famous make sure you remember my name ! What does it take to climb Everest ? Are you finished traveling for a while ? Or have you gotta go back to work ? Once again keep killing the content , absolutely loving it

Thanks so much, Chris! To climb Everest it costs around $100,000 USD and takes two to three months so that's a hugely different ordeal. I'm back at work now but I still have lots of trips coming up and more travel footage to go through for more videos. Thank you always so much for your support, dude - you're awesome!

I'm interested in climbing Mount Everest at one point as well but I don't want to pay 10,000-20,000 dollars for a permit to summit the mountain. How much did it cost you to go to the base camp?

@lindsaymccormick9607
@lindsaymccormick9607 8 лет назад
Lol, I did! It was easy actually. Meat is harder to come by than veggie options up there because they have to bring the meat up from a neighboring town. Plus we had whiskey, lots and lots of canned mango juice and whiskey ;)

Hey! Loved the tutorial. Just answer few of my questions. Was this completely on your own? What were the overall costs? And what about acclimatization? waiting for ur reply!!:-)

@lindsaymccormick9607 7 лет назад
Hi Madhav, thanks! To your questions - Was this completely on your own? Yes. Well, with a friend but no guide or porter if that's what you mean What were the overall costs? For 3 weeks on the trail, I spent around $400 on food and lodging NOT including permits (about $50,) flight ($300 round trip) and gear/ clothes. And what about acclimatization? I talk a little about acclimatization here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jh-XaJC-M-o.html Happy travels!

Did you bring your entire pack (with everything you were carrying over the rest of your year) with you on the trek, or did you leave it somewhere for safekeeping? I'm considering the EBC trek as a part of a long-term Asia backpacking trip, but it seems like it would be a pain to lug a bunch of stuff I don't need (warm-weather clothes, etc) if there's another option. Thanks!
@lindsaymccormick9607
@lindsaymccormick9607 7 лет назад
I left the bulk of my stuff in the common leave room at a guest house in Kathmandu. Before the trek, I'd recommend spending a few days in Kathmandu stocking up on things you need and while you're there, find a guesthouse that you trust and leave your stuff with them. A lot of them will let you leave for free as long as you stay there for a few days at the beginning and end of your trip. That's what I did and it worked out perfectly! :) Happy travels!

Hi there! How much did it cost to do the bas camp treck and where did you find an organisation?
@lindsaymccormick9607
@lindsaymccormick9607 8 лет назад
Hi Lucia, I went without a guide or organization - we did it on our own. If you look though the comments on this and the other Everest video of mine, I broke down the costs to answer this question. If you don't find it, just let me know! Thanks and happy travels!

Did you find it difficult being a vegetarian during your travles? Im vegan and I've been a bit worried that it will be very difficult getting enough food and calories in while traveling.
@lindsaymccormick9607
@lindsaymccormick9607 8 лет назад
It was really easy to be vegetarian in South East Asia. I ate mostly street food so it's cooked right in front of you and you point to the ingredients. Most of the meals are noodle and rice based so there will usually be that option for you as a vegan although you'll have to specifically learn how to ask for "No Fish Sauce" and "No Egg" in Thai (I ate egg but was constantly trying to explain that I didn't want fish sauce in my pad thai, etc.) Also, watch the steamed veggies as some are cooked in pork broth or steamed with pork broth. It's fairly easy to avoid cheese as it's not a huge part of S E Asian diet but dairy in coffee and sweets is very common. India and Nepal are a vegetarian's paradise! Avoiding dairy will be the trick here as milk and cheese are in a LOT of the food but I don't think it will be hard to find vegan options as well. Chick peas and potatoes find their way into a lot of India dishes so you can stick to those for vegan options. Happy travels and good luck!

Could yo give me an Eye ball amount of money for what you spent on the EBC part? I'm trying to budget rn :)
@lindsaymccormick9607
@lindsaymccormick9607 8 лет назад
Hey Madison, for sure! So this trek was WAY less expensive than I was anticipating. I had to buy clothes and gear in Kathmandu, it all came out to just over $200 USD but I really shopped around for the best deal and negotiated pretty well (I had just come from India after all, you'll be a pro after then too, lol.) The most expensive thing I bought was the sleeping bag that was a "North Face" 40- Below and it was only $40! Keep in mind though, I am super minimal so I didn't buy every little thing people/books said I needed. Don't buy new shoes (they will kill your feet) just make what ever footwear you have work or buy shoes months beforehand while you're traveling and break them in. The tea houses are dirt cheap - anywhere from $3 - $5 dollars a night. Food is pretty cheap, $5 to $6 dollars a meal plus more for hot lemon water (buy ginger root at the market and bring it with you on the trek - I cut up fresh ginger and had lemon ginger tea every night, it helped settled my stomach.) You can get snacks for a few bucks. Honestly, I was so sick from the altitude, I couldn't eat much so I probably saved money there but even so, budget maybe $15 - $25 dollars in for food per day. Other than that, there is really nothing else to spend money on. You shouldn't drink much booze (not good for you while trekking) and there is not much to do besides hike/trek. Books are free as in you can trade books from guesthouse to guesthouse so as long as you start with one, you can keep trading for free. Permits for the Everest region and your TIMS card (you need both) will be about $50 and the flight is $150 each way, I think. I took a flight one way and then hiked and took a van back which was cheap but I wouldn't recommend it (I talked about it in this video lol.) I think for the 3 weeks on the trail, I spent around $400 NOT including permits, flight and gear/ clothes (so with gear and permits about $700 total.) Please keep in mind, I also didn't hire a guide or porter so that greatly reduced my cost. Can't wait to hear about your trip!
