Just started sewing and looked for a couple of dozen channels on RU-vid. To be honest, a lot of them are women that I can't really connect with because they sew mostly dresses and the overal vibe of the videos isn't something I would watch normally on RU-vid (they make really good content but the overal connection just isn't there). However, your videos are amazing and kind of unique in the "RU-vid sewing video category" and at the same time extremely high quality. Keep this shit up man, it is amazing.

This guy doesn't have a regular channel but a wonderful blog: it's called Male Pattern Boldness. I started reading it around 10 or 12 years ago and it's wonderful. He's self taught and later enrolled in FIT in New York. Start from the beginning. It's sewing and some other stuff. He hasn't posted much on it for awhile. He has links to other men that sew as well as other sewing and sites that he just likes and those are all categorized for easy browsing.

Wild you’ve been sewing knits for so long without a walking foot! Your work is already very clean, this is just going to amp it up!! Love your discovery. Cheers man

I’ve been sewing for a couple years now but never had any real training. Everything I know is learned from RU-vid or through trial and error. This walking foot came with the sewing machine I bought (along with several others) and I didn’t know what it was for. Thanks for sharing this quick tutorial!

Sometimes a teflon foot works as well as a walking foot. I use it when I have fabrics that are fairly thick.

im trying to make a faux shearling coat and the walking foot is definitely 100% necessary. Its still a pain in the ass to work with. The microsuede and the fur backer are silk texture. The worst though, is that the fur has directionality to the pile, so it acts like a ratchet and shifts when compressed

So I'd personally just buy a walking foot machine. While limited to a single straight stitch it can easily go through so many layers of heavy duty fabric.Consew CP206RL. But I mainly do heavy fabric work for bags, gear, ect. Love the work man keep it up.

I use a lot the walking foot, for example for seams with more than four fabrics, or with thick fabric as well; do you know the presser foot with a roller? it also works well with slippery fabrics, thank your for your video, it's very professional.

They don't actually feed but apply pressure and allow the top dogs to slide easily back and forth. So basically helps with the top part dragging on the foot. If to simply move the lever arm up and down and attempt to move the dogs you will notice they just allow movement and of course there is no stitch length adjustment so that's a clue that it's not actually pulling anything.
@wimseybunter
@wimseybunter 2 года назад
Thanks for saying this. Many people seem to want to spread the impression that these things actually feed the fabric. They don't, of course. Compared to industrial walking foot machines or the IDT system on some Pfaff machines, the walking feet don't actually do anything.
@robinbebbington7063
@robinbebbington7063 2 года назад
@@wimseybunter Yes they all seem to think it actually pulls the fabric. But when you ask so how do you control stitch length they can't understand. Of course they can be better than a standard foot for some applications. Now when you look at the Janome accufeed system this really does synchronise top and bottom and feeds from both. And of course many industrial walking foot machines. Being an engineer I like to understand things.

I use a walking foot when I’m sewing together my quilt “sandwich” (the pieced top, batting, backing). The walking foot is really helpful to prevent bunching from uneven feed between the top and bottom layer. My only issue is when i start out, the fabric gets stuck behind the top feed dogs of the walking foot. I have to poke it out with my ‘purple thing’ stick.
