Be aware that Airtags can only relay their data to Apple so long as there's iPhone within range (It's unclear whether Android phones can relay the data to Apple; some say they can but it's not clear). What this means is that if your luggage is sitting in area where there are no phones, you'll only see the last "relayed" location. This recently happend to us at Santiago Chile airport; in the two and half hours since we dropped off our luggage to the moment our aircraft pushed back, our luggage was shown as still being at the check-in counters. We suspect that Santiago's new terminal may be fully automated and the luggage never came close to a phone carrying worker and/or ground crew aren't allowed to have cellphones on the job. If I recall the Airtags use Bluetooth so the "relay phone" has to be within a 10M (30 ft) range. And another quirk, on a flight back from San Jose Costa Rica, when we landed in Montreal one of our luggage pieces was shown to be in the Bahamas. What most likely happend is that someone on the flight had left their phone on during the flight and it got a cell connection as we flew over the Bahamas. Our luggage was in fact on board our flight the whole time.
