One of the brands I always recommend when it comes to affordable Swiss watches is Hamilton. With a broad offering spanning hundreds of references across several major model families, the overall Hamilton collection can be a bit confusing. With that in mind, I wanted to put together a video that tells you everything you need to know to understand where to look when it comes to Hamilton watches. If you like this concept, be sure to comment other brands we could cover in this style down below!

I have a Hamilton pocket watch from 1950. It was my grandfathers when he graduated college. It still keeps amazing time and he last had it serviced in the 60s. It’s now on display in a crystal dome on a hook. Very cool.

I've been repairing vintage watches for a few years now. Almost all of the gold ones (Longines, Omega etc) were long service awards from the 50's to the 70's. I thought that sort of class from an employer was over, but you have just restored my faith that there are still decent employers out there.

The square dress watch is very nice, the proportions look better than some tank style watches. Hamilton are a great fit within the Swatch group, they compliment their other brands very nicely. I have a feeling the field watches will be getting the collaboration treatment sooner rather than later which will bring a lot more interest to the brand.

I am truly impressed by Mr. Baldassarre's overview of watches. Well beyond the superficial analysis of the surface features, he is fluent in his knowledge of the families of movements, the certifications, the histories, orientations within the market, and even mentions Hertz! I'm thinking about a Navy Scuba. I have a few watches plus I fly and dive and the truth is, the dive/fly watches are more of a theme than an actual useful tool. Try reading tiny letters and faffing with clickers and minuscule dials in bad weather when your single pilot in poor light - or messing with whatever stuff on your wrist when diving. Truth is, when flying we use computers that have redundancies (and we have phones with incredible apps too) and when diving, we use dive computers and we go with buddies (and have tables). In both instances, a simple, tough, accurate and HIGHLY legible timepiece is nice too. Navy Scuba is all that I think - plus it's not huge and at $750, a decent buy.

Good rundown on the brand and model offerings :). I have a few Swisse automatics and homages, mostly all divers. Just ordered a Hamilton khaki field mechanical :). Liked the day date but a lot of those are too much bling, little to no ar coating and would be better in brushed finished like IWC when you are heading into pilots. Personal preference but wanted something kind of vintage and a fan of fauxtina. Agree about so many models within Hamilton. That black intramatic is beautiful, was close to getting one (on special at the moment) they are thick but one day.. Tissot and Oris are usually solid choices depending on style.

I’ve been a big Hamilton fan for years. The combination of heritage, design, features, and value is hard to beat, especially the Khaki Aviation range. But I do agree, they’re lagging a bit in dive watches. In that category they’re being handily beaten by Glycine and their Combat Sub line. I’m not sure that the Invicta acquisition has done Glycine much good, but if nothing else, it has made lots of different Combat Sub models available for under $500, and they’re still really nice watches with a lot of heritage of their own. There’s an idea for another video - a history of Glycine, their most important models, and what the Invicta acquisition has meant (maybe including a little detective work to find out what is currently going on with them, and why it’s so hard to find any models other than the Combat Sub).

I have my grandfather's 30 year award Hamilton Masterpiece mechanical from BF Goodrich in Akron, Ohio. It was manufacturered in the early 1960s. A stunning and sleek dress watch and one of my prized possessions. I plan on buying a Murph for my son in a year as a graduation present.

I love my Hamiltons (KF Auto, Cooper, & OG Murph) w/ one caveat ... that polished bezel seems to pick up nicks very easily. I don’t beat mine by any means, but the nicks just keep appearing.
