So question I have is with the Big Joe 1 & Big Joe 2. Here in Australia I can get the Big Joe 1 $1500 less than the 2 (and lets not even look at the 3!!). Is there enough value in the Big Joe 2 to justify the $1500? Can buy a whole bunch of accessories like the Joetissorie and DoJoe & still have cash in the bank.
If you get a divide and conquer set (with 2 half moons).. do you still need a heat deflector / plate setter? And is it possible to double the grill size with a divide and conquer set (so two times full direct cooking)? (noob here)
No, those heat detectors from Kamado Joe is all you need to do smoking or divide & conquer. If you want more space either go classic 3 which has 3 tiers of cooking or add a cooking rack on top grate depending on what you are trying to do.
@@BartlowsBBQ no problem. Do you have more videos about the KJ 2? I'm just starting out and wanted to see how other ppl cook on it so that way I can get a idea of certain techniques on how to smoke and grill.
Great Video one of the reason I was drawn to Kamado Joe was the price point, I ended up with the Jr at 399 I was comfortable with that. My wife and I have just become empty nesters with our son moving out west for a job. Looking forward on learning the new grill and try different foods.
Thank you so much. The Joe Jr. is such a great grill & smoker. Can't beat it for the price. I got some joe junior videos and kamado joe start here playlist of that helps! Thanks for watching!
Awesome review of the price points for each of the KJ family of grills. Each obviously has their purpose but all functional depending on the needs you described.
Great video! I got the big Joe 3 a few weeks ago and love it! I use it almost daily, and the soapstone is awesome to sear with. You can't go wrong with any of the KJs! 🤙
We live @ 7400’ in Carbondale Colorado where the winter temps really affect grilling. Will the Kettle Joe make a difference of do we need to get the ceramic one?
Great question...I had friend in Denver that had Kettle Joe and did well but still had trouble controlling temps. Long term, you'll be happy with ceramic for efficiency and longevity.
I have a Joe Jr for burgers, dogs and steak and a Classic 2 for pizza and wings a Stumps Gravity smoker for smoking beef. There is just two of us but like my wife says I’ve got a smoker addiction LOL
Agreed. All of the Kamado line is awkwardly priced in the UK, but so is Weber. It's making it a challenge picking what I'm going for next, though I have ruled out the Junior just because it falls at a bad price point and would need more investment to be useable for me.
@@ElcomeSoft I wanted the classic 3 but ended up going for the big joe 3 and don't regret the change. I'm glad I went for the big joe 3 absolutely love it. If your in the UK I used discounted appliance centre they had good bundles and got a good deal. Changed afew of the bits in the bundle for no extra cost. Also I'm looking to buy jo jr from topbbq.co.uk as its 459 for a bundle on there too.
@@Dc-kamadojoe aye already got them on my radar. £549 for the Kettle Joe with 3 extras seems the best Kettle Joe deal but I would happily drop that Sloroller if I could knock a few quid off the price!
Family of 4~6 on a Jr.? Perhaps a family of cats . Even if it is just 2 of you, it lacks many of the really great qualities of Kamado style cooker that unless you are really tight on space or only do mainly hot and fast cooks you should go for a Classic Joe or a Medium BGE.
If someone is on a budget and would like to get into Kamado Joe. The Junior and Kettle Joe are great options! I have a grill expander for the junior and have cooked for my family of 4 weekly. No doubt it has space limitations. It really depends on the persons budget and desire for cooking.
"Lasts a lifetime, has great warranty, it's a big part of the process of buying." Has only 3 years of warranty, less than the warranty by law in Norway 🤣
Ceramic warranty is for a lifetime of the original owner, 5 years on metal parts, 3 years on electronics, and 2 years on accessories. Thanks for watching!
First, a nit. The soapstone is NOT porous. Size-wise, I think you over-emphasized numbers of people to determine selection. I have a Joe Jr. and a Big Joe. I mostly cook for me and my wife. The Joe Jr. is small, no doubt about it. It is best for hot and fast cooking. The lack of two-zone cooking capability limits its flexibility. It does heat up fast which is nice when you just want to cook some burgers. Spatchcock chicken comes out great. The Classic (if you're going to spend the money, don't even consider the I and II, get the III -- you're going to have this forever) is probably the best compromise for most people. It uses the half-moon accessories for indirect cooking and other uses and it can use the Joetisserie, an absolute must-have. But an 18-inch soapstone or grill is pretty small. When I first got my Big Joe, I had buyer's remorse. I thought it was way too big. But now that I've cooked pizza, brisket, chili, rotisserie chicken, fajitas, used a wok -- it is amazing and I am so glad I didn't get the Classic. Another thing it does super-well is hold a temperature once you've set it. BTW, I don't think anyone should buy a ceramic grill because it's "efficient". Buy it because it can do smoking, hot-and-fast grilling, baking, etc., whereas other grills basically do just a few things well. I gave away a really good pellet smoker because it simply sucked at hot-and-fast. I got the Joe Jr. for that and was so smitten by it that I decided to get the Big Joe. As for the Kettle Joe that KJ is pushing right now, it seems like a good budget compromise. But to my eye it looks flimsy. My suggestion is to penny-pinch for a while, save up, then buy a real Kamado Joe and know that it's the last grill you'll ever have.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Everyone has preferences, budgets, unique needs and all of the models gives KJ a way to target those needs or those enthusiasts and buys all of them 😂! Yeah, I believe I corrected that statement on the soapstone. If someone doesn't want to drop tons of money the Kettle Joe and Junior are great options. I have easily cooked for my family of 4 on it! We don't need huge portions to serve 4 people. Depending on your needs, especially someone who will cook tons of food, big joe you won't regret getting, I agree. I started getting into catering, and the classic, kettle joe , joe junior were all being put to work. I decided recently to buy the big joe 3 to have one large surface to cook on.
@@joshgeiger8942 Thanks, appreciate the kind words! I'm loving my big joe purchase. I noticed Atlanta Grill Company is running a sale with free joetisserie!
@@BartlowsBBQ THANKS for that hot tip! I did end up ordering the big Joe. Joetisserie was the number one accessory I was targetting...but then there's the soapstone, and deflectors...hard to choose what to prioritize as a newbie. Still, I am jacked.
