This is the first video of an instructional series I'm going to be making about building a steel string acoustic guitar. I should be posting a video every two weeks to document the entire process. Feel free to leave questions in the comment section for any of my videos. Thanks for watching!

Adam, your montage caught my eye. I sat in stunned wonder at the tools, and your composure. At 59, my goal is to teach myself how to build and repair guitars. I have my fresh pot o joe on, your videos playing, and I'm looking forward to learning from you, Sir. THANK YOU so much for sharing this journey with all of us!

I just found your channel. I’ve been framing houses for 20 years and I’m confident that I can do just about anything. My father is a Master Guitar player. I want to build him a Guitar. But I saw that canoe and I’m just impressed. You’re the Man Adam.

Just started thumbing through this series. You are an amazing educator and presenter. These videos are packed full of detailed and helpful tips but you are also concise and to the point. Well done. I hope you keep posting stuff like this.

Hey Adam, keep on coming back to your videos. Thanks for doing these man. I watched a lot of good videos out there...your videos for sure are one of my favourites. Cheers from Toronto.

Adam, one of the reasons I enjoy your videos is that you make a short video that shows that anyone can do these projects. You just have to go and do it. Thanks for this, your guitar sounds great!

haha I thought about getting a cheap guitar on amazon and smashing it to fake people out... I think this one is going to my brother cause he actually plays a lot. Trying to find a way to sell them so I can just start cranking them out

Worksharp is the best ever. I have no links with them. I made a guitar many years ago. It wasn’t anything like as expensive as you report. I used rosewood and ebony and spruce. So don’t be put off by the price. Great video.

I'm so glad I found this. I wanted a new woodworking project to take on and your video helped me decide that this isn't for me. I love the process, but it's definitely not something I would enjoy making at the moment.

I am trying to repair a severely damaged guitar but I really liked it was my favorite its not an expensive model an Alvarez RD-20 cutaway. People had told me to throw it away and go get another one but its not easy for me to just give it up. I fell on it due to some medication I was taking that made me dizzy, I fell on it and the fold up stand got pushed through both the back and the top. A repair is much different than a build the sides are still good, but must replace the back and the top the tools required are pretty much the same. Your videos are very helpful to me and I appreciate you sharing them. Also have subscribed to Eric Schaffer's channel thanks.

The Side Monitor Soundhole puts your ears in the audience while you play. Every nuance of your instrument projects toward your ear not away from it at 90 degrees. This gives you a sonic perspective that will bring out the best in your playing.

Congrats on getting Worksharp to sponsor you! Looking forward to this series! I'm working towards making an Irish Bouzouki, but it's taking me a while to accumulate the tools to get it done. One of these days I'll get it done, and if I clean my shop, I'll video it.

DAMN dude, that CANOE. Very nice. I've built a full sized airplane, restored several cars, etc. and that is some pretty work. I'm thinking about building a guitar, looks like your vids will be a good place to start. I will look at some professional luthiers, as well, obviously, but I'm hoping a beginner builder will have tips and lessons learned the pros may not think to voice. I'm interested in learning to play, and figure if I build my own I will have more invested in the whole process. Cheers.

Nice video series! Just a Quick comment about the costs... Yes, you can build It in a way cheaper cost with recycled materials, diy tools and hardware from china... i've done a ukulele on a budget of about 20 Bucks and i'm finishing a electric guitar on the same budget.

There are a number of YT videos that document the process of building a guitar for zero or near zero cost....ie., using scrap & recycled wood, salvaged parts etc. But unless I am wrong that is not the focus of this series. The guitar he built looks & sounds like a nice instrument made w/ real tone woods & quality piece parts. In any case I plan on watching the entire series to learn more!
@ConstrutorMusical
@ConstrutorMusical 6 лет назад
I just sayed that becouse he said: "I don´t think that the average woodworker can do it mutch cheaper than I did" ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UBu_s4HzH0M.html I understand that this is not the focus of this series, but since he spoke about this topic, I´m just commenting about that... I´m also learning and planning on watching the whole series!

Not to mention the fact that buying guitar kits is really expensive and not true diy. Go get some walnut and glue up and run through the planer. No need to buy these kits, that's where all his money was wasted.

just finished my first guitar build. I've always wanted to build a cedar strip canoe. how would you compare the "doablility" of the canoe compared to the guitar?
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam 6 лет назад
Tanner Mortimer canoes are a lot easier I think. Guitars are more technical and there’s less room for error. Canoes have fewer steps but the steps are more monotonous. Both are super fun projects I only know a few people that have done both

A lot of "premium" US made martins cost 2 grand. To have a instrument you built yourself, and the knowledge from doing it, is priceless IMO Have you thought about making money building guitars?
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam 6 лет назад
I would love to be able to start doing this more seriously as a business. I still have a lot to learn and there are people out there that are making masterpieces. I think if I could sell a dozen or so a year it might be sustainable... I just have to find some buyers... Thanks for the encouragement!

Any books that you recommend on the subject of building a guitar?
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam
@AGuyDoingStuffAdam 6 лет назад
Here's a link to a pretty popular one. I bought this book and read it but there's just so much information and it's so complicated that I have a hard time getting it from a book. My main sources were Eric Schafer Guitar videos (link in video description) and if I have a quick thing I need to figure and don't want to watch a video I just google my question and usually find it on some guitar building forum cause somebody has asked the same thing before. www.amazon.com/Guitarmaking-Tradition-Technology-Construction-Steel-String/dp/0811806405
